I have found that varying in calories really helps spurn my weight loss...I would splurge one day by about 400 calories or so, then the next few days be very strict, and every time I would lose another lb or two quickly! So I for one swear by it!! I think its good to keep your body guessing... :)

I think moderation is key, just like you said. And also, there are healthier pasta choices you could choose, like whole wheat, quinoa, etc. I have it occasionally as well.
