Interesting quote from that page: "It’s a good way to measure overall cardiovascular fitness and risk for cardiovascular disease. A 2011 study in middle aged men found that a single mile run test was a fair predictor of future CHD mortality. Men in their 50s who could run a mile in 8 minutes had optimal cardiovascular…

Treadmill is easier if your goal is watching ESPN highlights or NASDAQ ticker symbols while running. Running outside is better if you like to eat during runs (and your gym objects to that). If you are preparing for a race with varied terrain and unknown weather conditions (potholes, sticks, rain, snow, etc) run outside. I…

Yes! He would have pizza delivered to an intersection mid run and even had a technique for folding it. Timing might be the hardest part so I have considered ordering a pizza delivered to a 400m track (the same track where I already do my doughnut run training) so I can just run in ovals while I wait. Everyone should read…

Good point. Sorry if my post helped further the inaccurate stereotype that everyone using running shoes with a large drop is a heel striker.
-
One comment directed at those who already run long distances with "traditional" running shoes (significant heel to toe drop) looking to convert to minimalist running. Swallow your pride and start over with mileage progression. Minimalist running emphases different muscles and running form changes as we get tired. To avoid…

Haha I guess the 0mm drop version would meet my definition. I won't knock Hokas. I tried a pair on once at a pre marathon convention and could see how they appeal to some (even if they were not for me).

Listen to others but decide for yourself. Experiment! Sometimes I eat entire meals DURING my run (and sometimes I run following a long fast) but I know that will not work for everyone. How tolerant is your gastrointestinal system? If you feel adventurous I highly recommend you Google Krispy Kreme Challenge or Beer Mile.
-
I recommend you read Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. Minimalist running does not prevent all injuries. It may put less strain on your knees and back (assuming proper running form) but it will put more strain on your calf muscles and possibly increase the risk of stress fractures in your feet. I have never been…

Feel free to add me as well. I ran my first marathon about two years ago. I still run all the time but am not using any structured program or training for a specific race at the moment. I mainly care about staying fit and having fun

I agree with some above posters that we should probably define "clean bulk" and "dirty bulk" because the amount of your surplus will of course matter. I think the answer will probably depend on your goals. If you are trying to build/protect a 6 pack or are a body builder you probably want to keep your surplus smaller than…

I tend to agree with this. I think the best thing you can do is live by example and be as healthy as you can be. Kids listen not only to what we say but what we do. There are/were three type 2 diabetics in my family. All 3 were obese at time of diagnosis and 2 are now dead. You cannot control your genes but you can control…

Welcome to MFP! If you are a runner (you mentioned garmin) check out the long distance runners group. Many people find that making friends with similar goals/exercise preferences can be helpful

There are many commenters on his videos asking some derivative of "how do you stay so thin?" There is no secret. Just diet and exercise. He has stated that his metabolism is nothing special. He exercises to compensate for huge meals and will often fast for a day or more beforehand. He eats lots of fruits and vegetable and…

New hot dog champ @MattStonie ate 62 hot dogs in 10 mins. Nutritional info: 17,360 calories, 1,116 g of fat, 48,360 mg of sodium. Some call this a major upset but I disagree. Regarding the stature of the winners (male and female) being lean is an advantage as there is less adipose tissue in the way to limit room for…

I track everything. At home this is easy because I never use condiments or spices. When I eat out I often have to edit calorie totals downward because I order things plain that normally include condiments.
-
I agree that an equipment issue is likely but this is worth investigating further.
-
I was thinking the same thing. Lifting is many things but "boring" is not a word often used to describe it If you truly are bored, I suggest choosing a new lifting program as others have suggested in this thread

I love caffeine and used to drink a lot of regular soda. I have nothing against sugar. However if moderation is a problem for you then perhaps switching to diet soda would help. Consuming a 2 liter bottle of regular soda a day will make it harder to hit your macro targets and still stay under your calorie goal.
-
Exactly!

Four ideas that help give me more energy for the day: 1. Plenty of Sleep 2. Cold Shower 3. Caffeine 4. Barefoot trail run Being in caloric deficit that will impact your energy level. Once you hit your goal weight and can eat at maintenance levels your energy levels will improve as well.

I wont recommend a specific number because as others have said above it varies. I will say that owning/rotating use of multiple shoes will not only increase life expectancy of each shoe, but will make them smell better. On another note, try barefoot running! They will last much longer than any pair of shoes mentioned above
-
I agree with this. Focus on learning the proper form for the above exercises and you will do well

I strongly disagree with the 99% part. Many of the people who hear this have been at a healthy weight their entire life. Your example may be true in many cases but nowhere near 99% of the time. You may be right about fat shaming being more common than skinny shaming, however I do not think one is more acceptable than the…

Most of the people who say that are usually out of shape/overweight so I just ignore them. If you really want to debate them on the merits, you can say you are a runner and use these charts: http://www.runnersworld.com/run-the-numbers/bmis-of-champions-womens-edition?nopaging=1…

Instead of focusing on what other people your height would like to weigh (we all have different goals) why not focus on what you want. If you focus is on appearance, then you probably already have a number in mind. If your focus is on a particular sport, this is what helped me: 1. Find your favorite sport on these charts:…

Welcome to MFP. All the tools you need to succeed are here. Accurately count all your calories and burn more than you consume. You will lose weight. For more people the hardest part is self discipline. Use whatever form of motivation you need to stay on track. You can do it!

Do you have high blood pressure or another specific reason to be concerned with sodium? If you are active enough your optimal sodium intake may be higher than you think.... http://www.runnersworld.com/nutrition-runners/pass-salt

I am exactly the same! Even for headaches, pain killers are a last resort. Usually caffeine or sleep solves the problem for me.
