Matt Stonie the NEW Nathan's Hot Dog eating Champion!!!
So this guy is 5'8" 135lbs and beat the reigning champ, Joey Chestnut, by eating 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Think of the calorie count here.

New hot dog champ @MattStonie ate 62 hot dogs in 10 mins. Nutritional info: 17,360 calories, 1,116 g of fat, 48,360 mg of sodium.
Some call this a major upset but I disagree. Regarding the stature of the winners (male and female) being lean is an advantage as there is less adipose tissue in the way to limit room for stomach expansion.
With a few exceptions most of the top eaters have a healthy BMI and exercise almost daily. Matt Stonie for example has ran 5k in 17:43 in addition to his competitive eating accomplishments. These are real athletes. It is a myth that most top competitive eaters are couch potatoes.

His video of him eating the 5lb burrito is also pretty impressive0

There are many commenters on his videos asking some derivative of "how do you stay so thin?" There is no secret. Just diet and exercise. He has stated that his metabolism is nothing special. He exercises to compensate for huge meals and will often fast for a day or more beforehand. He eats lots of fruits and vegetable and does track macros.0

And yes, most competitive eaters are daily workout fiends. They have to so they don't gain too much weight.

I had the pleasure to see Chesnut's very first eating competition when he was a complete newb. He was up against some huge names and kicked asparagass, eating the deep fried spears at the Stockton Asparagus Festival. Granted, he looked like he was going to absolutely heave at the end.
Thought it was cool to see him continue to do so well.
It was amazing to see that tiny Sonya Thomas put it away too! She's certainly got a hollow leg or something0
