I bought a treadmill. I balked at the price and there are free treadmills in my office gym. Plus I can walk and run outside, again for free, unless the roads are horribly icy. I use that treadmill 4 to 6 times per week. I walk uphill, I sprint, I take slow steady runs, and sometimes i just stroll while watching a movie. it…

You're probably in the same ballpark I am with the number of calories allowed. You might want to rethink what you're having for your meals. For example, at lunch I had a salmon melt. Skinny salmon salad, cheddar singles, and orowheat sandwich thins. I added a side of steamed Brussels Sprouts. It was plenty of food and only…

I have a family member who had gastric bypass surgery. She lost a lot of weight, but she has had a lot of problems too. For example she has chronic headaches and crippling anxiety attacks. Unfortunately, with the shorter small intesitine, the medications don't absorb well and are pretty much ineffective. So aside from the…

Yes, it will freeze for future smoothie use. You can use it as part of a fruit salad. Epicurious is free and has loads of great ideas such as this one for honedew with lime and coconut. http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Honeydew-Melon-in-Coconut-Milk-106918

I'm not an exercise physiologist, but I am a data analyst. That's what I base my opinion on.

Personally, I'd go with the HRM because it has ALL of the data. The high and average heart rate doesn't tell the whole picture. And MFP is just average guesstimates without any objective data regarding intensity. I believe that the HRM is most accurate with the calorie calculations.

What a wonderful story! Thanks for posting.

Wow, I guess ignorant busy bodies aren't isolated to my office :-) The stuff people think is all right to say is outrageous! I like the responses, they help a lot. I was too flabbergasted to really think clearly; but I'm prepred now if it happens again. You all rock and gave me since a nice recovery laugh.

Thanks. We work closely enough that it'll be all right to request to see his official food police badge. I like that. Boy though, he really made me angry; I actually made two typos in my OP. And truth be told, the ONLY reason he's saying anything is because diet is a personal issue for him; it really has nothing to do with…

Also, Tuesday is my weigh in day, and the little running chick moved a little more.
-
Are you taking 2000 IU of vitamin D daily or getting a fair amount of sun? I really struggled to lose weight, then when I added in Vitamin D it became much easier.

I love Tuesday Triumphs. Everyone has nice success moments going into the week. They all snowball together for big wins.

Every log we complete is a success! Congratulations to everyone on committing and succeeding.

Outstanding! That is a milestone worth celebrating.

Following any diet dogmatically will create problems of one sort or another. The only processed foods I eat are shredded wheat and pasta. But sometimes I have to go out and eat at a social function. I'm not going to skip or sit in the corner because it's a fajita buffet. I know I'm committed to eating well, and if I need…

I had bloodwork in December. My cholesterol is high and I was clearly pre-diabetic. Worse, I have incomplete lupus so my risk for heart disease is significantly elevated. It had become hard to lose weight out of a desire to look good. But it's damn easy to get motivated when you're looking at a heart attack in the next…

Whew, that is scary, but good news that you'll be fine. I fully agree, it's so easy to stay with a plan when the consequences are serious.. I'm here because my bloodwork last December turned up elevated cholesterial, lupus antibodies and I'm pre-diabetic. Overnight I dumped my self indulgent diet and went back to the super…

I live in Alaska and agree with the suggestions of using a SAD light and Vitamin D. Next have you gone to your local library to borrow workout DVDs? Often they have those available to borrow. It's a nice free way to exercise at home. I do all of my own cooking too. It's a bit inconvenient, but I enter my recipes into MFP…

I found the Biggest Loser DVDs very good for low to moderate intensity workouts. Plus they all show how to modify the exercises to a beginner level. You might want to check with your local library to see if they have some to try for free.

Have you had a blood workup to make sure your thyroid is OK? And are you taking Vitamin D? Low Vitamin D can really make it hard to lose weight.

First, I live in Alaska and walk outside every day. I overate yesterday. I turned on the kinect and did some dancing :-) My alternative is to remember that My Fitness Pal resets at midnight, even if I slip up today, I'm going to be there tomorrow fighting for my good health.
-
For me, it really helps to make sure to include some fat and protein to keep feeling full. Have you had a medical work-up including thyroid and vitamin D levels? Both can impact your appetitie and ability to lose weight. Good luck!

I'm 48 and took the pill for probably 20 of those years. I never gained weight on it. I'd talk with my doctor before dropping the pill and look hard at what I'm eating, not just the total calories. Next I'd invest in a scale to help me measure portions accurately so I'd have good faith in the numbers in my food diary. Good…

I have a Timex that I really like. I was working out with my Kinect and felt that is grossly underestimated my calories burned. I started using the HRM and it seemed to correlate with my exertion level pretty well. I really want to improve my fitness level and the HRM helps to track fitness in an objective way.

These are all amazing transformations! Congratulations on your success. I think I need to take a before photo of myself too since it's inspiring to see the change.

I've been very short of breath and arthritic. I had bloodwork and was shocked to see that I was pre-diabetic and have two indicators of lupus. I took it to heart. I'm literally in a life and death fight to reclaim my health and quality of life.
-
"You're fighting for your life." It's playing in a continuous loop at the moment, so nothing is all that tempting. That may be true on some level for all of us, but it's a little more present for me at the moment. When you really know that your life is in jeopardy you fight back hard!

Bacon poutine. French fries topped with pepperjack cheese, bacon and bacon cream gravy. Amazing!!!! Why is that the worst? Becauce I'll be eating a bland steamed something and thinking, "If only I could have bacon poutine, my taste buds would be so happy." I'm ruined forever for healhty food. My second choice. One day my…

Bacon anything. I made caramel bacon yeast doughnuts for Christmas and am pretty sure that I'll celebrate President's day by making another batch.

I always target 30 grams of fiber per day. I think MFP ought to tweak their program so that calories are an upper limit and fiber is a lower limit. I find I lose weight far more easily when I keep my fiber up in meal plans.
