  • Agreed. Maybe focus more on eating at a very modest deficit, at most a half lb per week. More important, work to improve your body composition.
  • Without opening your diary, hard to know for sure. A couple of possibilities. 1. You are eating more than you think you are. 2. You are eating too much salt, and retaining water. 3. Your MFP settings are off, and you are less active/more sedentary than you think you are. Focus on more carefully measuring your portions so…
  • I have been having shoulder problems. 4 years ago, a partial rotator cuff tear in my left shoulder, this year, tendenitis in my right. Seek medical attention to rule out an injury. If you are feeling pain, you might just have a strain or tendenitis. I tore my left rotator cuff trying to just work through the pain. That was…
  • Pretty much agree with the advice given so far. At your weight, you should see results on the scale quickly, though eventually it might go down to, maybe 1.5 to 2 lbs/week. When you do eat at places like Mcdonalds, stay away from fries and soda. Better yet, stay out of McDonalds, and when you do go, stick with, maybe…
  • I do both, but treadmill feels harder to me. With elliptical, you can coast on a low resistance, so I try to pump up the resistance to compensate. When I started back at the gym in July, I generally kept resistance at a 5 or 6. Now, I push resistance to at least an 8, more often 9, and do intervals with resistance at 10 or…
  • I chose mine because of the number itself (199), at my height it would finally get me out of the "obese" BMI range, and because it would put me just below a weight I have previously sustained for about 3 years.
  • Sounds like you are doing OK with the exercise. You might want to work in some weights, or maybe a body sculpting class, That being said, it is really consistency in your diet that will determine whether you can drop the weight by June, or not. Not sure if you can lose exactly what you want, but you can get pretty close.…
  • Yes, but there are foods that are hard to justify, like candy. I must admit, I was in a jewelry store the other day picking up a gift for my wife and they had gourmet chocolate, and I had one.
  • I eat those from time to time. Just need to watch the sauce on the Gyro. Thai curry is a tough one, but I have gone out for Thai food and ordered some sate, and maybe a basil stir fry. My wife ordered the curry and I had a bite or two of hers, an a bite of my son's Pad Thai noodles.
  • Chips, French Fries, Fried Chicken, Egg Rolls, Soda (even diet), cheap snack cakes (maybe Hostess went out of business because of me joining MFP?), cookies, cinnamon rolls, muffins.
  • Do it for yourself. People won't love you more just because you are thinner.
  • I was that unsupportive spouse last year. This year, I am down over 30 lbs, and my wife is the one baking holiday cookies, making popcorn when we watch movies, and eating God knows what when I am not looking. Just because you are married doesn't mean you are joined at the hip. Sometimes your motivation may be high while…
  • This, and you have youth. The body can adapt to positive changes in diet and exercise more easily when you are young. And in the scheme of things, you only have a modest amount of weight to lose. 4, maybe 5 months of healthy eating and regular exercise and you should be right where you need to be.
  • Add me if you want.
  • Tell them you gave up sweets for lent. ;)
  • Pretty much. I started the day I got my new phone, and MFP was one of the first apps I put on my phone.
  • A slice or two of cheese pizza is OK. (no high fat toppings, no deep dish) Make sure it is thin crust and stay away from the national chains. Don't know how they do it, but they manage to pack extra calories into most of their pizzas. If you makng a frozen pizza, you know exactly what you are eating. FWIW, I usually eat…
  • One more thing. The winter/spring of my senior year, I lost a lot of weight, about 50 lbs. Looking back, I should have done it sooner. It was a lot more fun doing college stuff as a thin person than as a fat person.
  • I did a fair amount of drinking in college. FWIW, though some of my fondest memories of those times involved intoxicants, the best memories of that time are of the people I knew and the places I went, not the the times I got wasted. Barely remember those nights.
  • IMO not your imagination. I have noticed the same thing. I think people have an aversion, conscious or unconscious, to the overweight (particularly the obese and morbidly obese). Part of it might be that many obese people don't look as put together as normal weight or athletic individuals. Part of it might be your self…
  • Maybe not making certain foods off limits, but, perhaps, off limits for awhile. Sort of like a drinker trying to stay sober. Just tell yourself, I won't drink that sugary drink or eat those large fries today. I agree with the person who said you need to "earn" those calories. Of course, if you exercise for half hour or 45…
  • Maybe you just need to give up soda. Even just 4 cans a week is 600 or 800 completely empty calories. There are better options that will actually help you meet your macros (protein, vitamins, fiber, etc) and keep you fuller for that same 600 to 800 calories. The other thing is, you really need to think twice before eating…
  • That too. I also post from time to time over in bikeforums.net, and they take a pretty dim view of department store bikes.
  • I hate to break it to you, but the bike you got is a beach cruiser. OK for short rides, but not really suited for the longer distances someone interested in biking for fitness or weight loss would need. Trying to ride 10 or 15 miles on that bike would be like trying to run 3 miles in a pair of flip flops, or pumps.
  • All good advice so far. Remember though, to a certain extent, the shape of your butt is determined by genetics.
  • I do protein shakes with some oatmeal and it is pretty satisfying. Depending on the brand/recipe, the shakes I make are between 225 and 275 calories, and I usually eat about 150 calories of oatmeal. If not oatmeal, sometimes I have a slice of whole grain bread and a tablespoon of peanut butter.
  • Fine, but if you don't want feedback or opinions, why did you start this thread?
