I think OP meant, days where you purposely just go over your calorie range.

There are foods I have pretty much cut out. Snack food cakes, donuts, cinnamon rolls, cookies, frozen custard, french fries, fried chicken, double cheeseburgers, and all you can eat buffets, especially Chinese. But, there are still foods I eat. Chinese (no deep fried though so no eggrolls), Middle Eastern food, especiially…

Actually, probably not, and in the case I brought up, it was a professional colleague, not a co worker.

I was liike your husband, always bringing chips, sweets, or high fat takeout home. Then I finally got on the health and fitness bandwagon iin July. Now I am the one who reminds her that she hasn't been to the gym in awhile, that she shouldn't be eating chips, etc...And, she is the one who sneaks junk food into the house…

I will take that as a no.

Hypothetically, would you tell a friend or family member who was color blind that his/her color combinations clashed? Or that he/she shouldn't go to work in shabby, worn out shoes? Or finally, would you tell a friend who lost a lot of weight that he or she needs to buy new, smaller clothes?

Who said you need to be a doctor or therapist to discuss obesity? Doesn't a 40 plus years of wrestling with the problem count for anything?
-
In the case of the work colleague, I would either point him to this site, help him with his meal planning, and/or ask him to come with me to the gym.
-
People have. The answer is, sometimes, but only when I was ready.
-
I think of it a little differently. My view of weight (at least for me) is more like it is a consequence of addiction to too much of the wrong kinds of foods. Sometimes I get control over the addiction, and sometimes the addiction takes control over me.

OK, point taken. I do express concern for my brother's cigar habit, but so far, he has not changed his habits one bit. He and I have very frank discussions about diet and weight as he also uses MFP to watch his food intake.

I generally agree, except that in my case, I think I was deluding myself about my obesity for the last couple of years. Though I had gained over 60 lbs, in my mind, I was still the guy who lost 60 lbs 8 years ago, not the guy who gained it all back (and then some) over the last 4.

Probably right. Funny that 3 months in and I suddenly notice obese people all over the place that I hadn't notiiced before. As I said, I think that except for a few moments of clarity, I managed to avoid seeing myself as I actually was.
-
When I was going through difficult times, I had a hard time asking anyone for help. I know what you are saying, most overweight people know they are overweight, but they may not realize how overweight. I recognize now my ability to delude myself is now making my task orders of magnitude harder than had I made a few changes…

Anyone ever send a similar email to any one of dozens of obese college and pro football coaches?
-
Agree it is rude and cowardly. Notice the letter writer picks on a female news anchor. Why not a retired overweight football player, or coach working as a sports commentator? And come to think of it, sexist, too. Following up on the whole football coach thing, I would venture to say that the plurality, maybe majority of…

45 minutes of spinning.

I have tried many different brands over the years. In general, I have had success with New Balance and, when I can find a wide width, Asics. My son's feet are shaped diifferent and he prefers Nike.

Watch the bread. Some of the Indian breads are high iin carbs and fat.
-
Focus not just on calories, but salt, sugar, fat, fiber and vitamins.

You got that right. It pays to look critically at a salad. Dressing, croutons, cheese, and other high calorie toppings like avocado (healthy but high in calories). About 5 years ago, my niece stayed with us for almost a year. She was a strict vegetarian, but she gained weight eating things like salad and custard at the…

Many restaurants have their menus posted online. So if you know where you are meeting your friends, scope out the menu ahead of time and use MFP to figure out what the damage will be, rather than just winging it when the server is standing there taking your order. Just decide ahead of time what you will eat and stick with…

Is there a gym on campus? You don't have a 45 minute break somewhere in your day to go to the gym? Back when I was in college when I was trying to lose weight, I would hit the weight room between classes, or meet one of my friends for a game of raquetball. FYI, it doesn't get easier when you graduate. Then you get a job…

I am 47 and just got back in the swing of things. In May, I could barely bike ride 5 miles without being gassed. I am now up to 5 to 6 days/week of exercise, including 2 days a week of weights. I was feeling pretty good about myseflf when I ran into a guy at the gym who I remembered from years ago. He is in his late 60s…

All good suggestions so far. English muffin with almond butter and either Low fat yogurt or Mini protein shake

Funny you should mention Swiss Cake Roles and Peanut Butter Cookies. I associate those, and other sugary foods with my old lifestyle. For the last couple of years, I couldn't get through the evening without some sugary empty calories. Except for some cake on my birthday, I haven't touched sugary sweets like that since…

No, much more intense. Search this forum and the internet. Search "Spinning" and "Johnny G" to get the history of the class.

OK, I am inspired. Was trying to decide which class to take today, but this thread settled it. Just called my club and reserved a spot for spinning. RE: getting biking shorts. They don't need to be expensive. If you can't find a pair at a local bike shop at a reasonable price, you can buy them on sale online at Nashbar for…

I have done it on and off over the years. If your butt is sore, get yourself some padded biking shorts. Generally, though, in time, your butt will get used to riding.

How short a period of time are you looking for?
