  • Awesome, congrats on the progress!
  • I'm on book 10 of the Wheel of Time fantasy series. Once I'm done with that it will probably be time for some nonfiction of some kind, I'll be following this thread to get some suggestions! Oh, I can count that too if you can :D I've played off and on for years at a real novice level (never dedicating enough effort to it…
  • You'll definitely be able to control blood sugar issues from diabetes with a ketogenic diet. Many of us here are diabetic or prediabetic and have seen incredible improvements. 130-150 post meal isn't really that bad at all, though you should eventually see improvements on that with keto. Specific thoughts: Since you'd…
  • Week 1: Did my stretching 6 out of 7 days last week. The "couch stretch" is brutal, but I've figured out that if I do loosen up properly first and work my way towards it I can do it, so far just seeing that I can do the exercises a little better is improvement/reward enough itself. Week 2: 5 out of 7 days this week, didn't…
  • Anecdotally, most of us who have been around for awhile are always seeing exciting ways that people's lives improve on low carb. Most of these sound familiar or make a lot of sense to anyone here on LCHF. I've never had chronic depression issues, but I've seen enough folks around here (and on reddit's keto sub) mention low…
  • Yep, definitely this for me. I take over the counter stuff when I need it. I know I don't have any issues with overusing any meds or taking them when I don't need it, so its not something I worry about at all. Poor sleep can make so many other mild issues worse that if something is interfering with my sleep it needs to be…
  • Hah, I wish I had this problem sometimes, I don't fall asleep easy even when I want to. Were you laying down for this? We did some stuff to learn how to find a position you can sit in to "maintain as good a posture as you're able to comfortably" for however long you plan on meditating for. I know some people have back…
  • Congrats! :)

  • Not part of this challenge for me, but I went to a yoga class for the first time ever today. It was a "yoga basics" class for beginners, but it still kicked my butt big time. My 1 year commitment/contract to classes I've been taking at my local gym ends at the end of August and I've been trying to figure out what to do…
  • Yep, I have seen lots of people mention feeling like they need less sleep on LCHF, or that they are more alert when they wake up and ready to go. Its not uncommon at all, I don't know the reason for it though.
  • I don't think you can, but you have an hour to edit it if you want, can edit it to "accidental post" to take up less space but I think that's the best you can do. Congrats on sticking with the stairs so far, btw :)

  • Hang in there :) Make your next meal a low carb one, and then the next one after that, and you'll be right back on track. Also, you are pretty new to low carb right? If the 10k steps goal is a big step up from what you're used to, AND you're still fairly new to large diet changes, consider if its too many big changes at…
  • I had no idea youtube links auto-embedded here now, ugh. I hope that's ok.
  • This is awesome :) I have to reply when I see folks talk using the word "successful' though, because I think it speaks to the single most important thing that I've learned in studying mindfulness. I see a lot of people saying "I can't do it right", *usually* this is in regards to having some sort of targeted focus…
  • MFP's technical limitations are annoying. You *should* be able to filter out others "completed day" and "exercise" statuses if you want if it causes you to miss out on other conversations. Showing people how they can change their settings if they want is cool too. I didn't know you could suppress notifications like that.…
  • Outstanding, you look great!
  • 1 full week back on keto w/ no cheating as of today. I posted a few weeks ago about having fallen off the wagon. I had a trip for work two weeks ago that changed my routine drastically for a week and I wasn't able to stay on keto during that. I got back on as soon as I got home though, back into my comfortable routine, so…
  • What is your current exercise level/program? Gym 3x week, with a general goal of being less sedentary the rest of the week but nothing specific there. What are the specifics of your challenge for the week/month? (i.e. which item(s) from the suggested list are you adding or modifying) I'm going to participate in the monthly…
  • BTW, I didn't make my above post to excuse the behavior that started the conversation. I do wonder if its a legitimate idea that this person has that is just "I'll just take meds so I can do the thing that I like" or if its some kind of active dissonance being created because they can't stop. Suggesting that may be…
  • Yup. From age 18 to about age 34 I drank more soda than water. For 9 or 10 of those years probably 90% of what I drank was Dr Pepper. Its the biggest reason I'd fail at all weight loss efforts. I'd try to start some new weight loss program and obviously cutting out sodas was a part of any reasonable weight loss strategy.…
  • I'm very jealous :)
  • I have an adjustable sit/stand desk, its not going to feel like a workout to stand up for parts of the day but it definitely helps prevent the complete sedentary "I just sat on my *kitten* for 8 hours straight" awful feeling and all the bad health effects that come from it. I also have a stability ball that my old physical…
  • Congrats, that's awesome :) Personally I eat 2 or 3 meals a day, it can differ from day to day depending on my hunger level and activitiy level. I try to time my breakfast and eat it whether I really feel all that hungry or not, but that's because I've learned that if I don't do that I can run into some... bathroom issues…
  • I just went to Atlanta for work for a week, I saw a bunch of people, coworkers/old friends, that I haven't seen in 5 years, I'm 100 pounds lighter than the last time they saw me. BUT, right now I'm struggling, I gained 15-20 pounds in the last couple months, I've had a hard time getting back on keto full time. So my…
  • Restricting carbs but not being keto absolutely helps most people. Keto started for me for psychological reasons. Moderation wasn't working. If I limit my carb intake, I am simply not hungry the vast majority of the time, I have no/very low cravings for food in general, I can go as long as I want without eating without it…
  • I took a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course at UNC-Chapel Hill that ran from February to April. I had never heard of any of this before then, went 100% on the recommendation of my physical therapist at the time. I wrote about the entire experience, every class, every activity they had us try and everything we…
  • That's always been my understanding as well.
  • 20g or less for me, very frequently less. I'm eating a ketogenic diet. There are many other low carbers who eat more than that and find great blood sugar control. For me, I find that it doesn't take many carbs at all to drive me into crazy sugar cravings and I am happiest when I am extremely restrictive with my carbs. Many…
  • There are many diabetics, or people diagnosed pre-diabetic who had that be their wake up call to take action, over in the low carber daily forum that was mentioned here. It has helped many of us. See my above post about going from a 7.5 A1C to 4.3. That group is very supportive and informative. Since this is two posts in a…
