My appointment was yesterday. I am amazed by my new doctor. I think he's younger than me (I'm guessing he's 35 or so). When requesting a doctor I asked for someone young, hoping that would make it more likely for me to get someone who is supportive of low carb. When the doc came in after I met with the nurse we just…

Bumping this and again saying thanks for this post instead of starting my own thread. I did a 5 day fast from last Thursday to this Tuesday night. The night I broke the fast and the next day were like normal keto days for me, but then the last couple days my hunger has been out of control. The first couple days I kept…

I did this briefly a couple years ago, following the TKD protocol over at https://reddit.com/r/ketogains (in their faq). I would add a bit of dextrose in the form of candy before my strength training. I ended up deciding that it did not help me in a noticeable way and that I was indeed getting cravings from eating the…

Congrats on getting off the glimiperide. I hated that stuff, any time I did anything good it would completely tank me into a low blood sugar, its only job was to save me from myself if I insisted in having more Dr Pepper even after a diagnosis of diabetes. Eventually I figured out "hey if I do good things all the time I…

There was awhile where I was trying to figure out digestive issues and I made a chia seed pudding daily. https://lowcarbyum.com/simple-chia-seed-vanilla-pudding/ There is one example. You can google a bunch of others. I made it with almond milk and some kind of artificial sweetener, I'm not even sure what, maybe erythritol…

My personal experience with keto (18 months a couple years ago and again for the last 8 weeks) is that my "energy increase" isn't really a burst of extra energy than normal, its the removal of the crashes and lethargy that I felt when eating poorly and forcing constant blood sugar swings with a crappy way of eating. So I…

15 pounds in two months can be done but you don't have a whole heck of a lot of control over whether you're going to have a post-induction stall (PISS as I've always known it). Just do your best and try to get yourself on track and the rest will work itself out. I went to a convention last year (Twitch Con) in October…

The mention of Dr Hyman and his push for Functional Medicine got me thinking... https://gladdmd.com/ This guy is listed as a keto friendly doctor (https://ketogenic.com/tools/keto-clinicians-finder/) in my area. I'd looked at this guy before but the supplement store being prominently featured and a $425 consult was a bit…

Yeahhh so when I was regaining weight and not taking care of myself I just go full noncompliant, so I haven't had anything done since the end of 2015. When I was losing weight and last on keto I had a year's worth of A1C results under 4.5. NMR history below. Thanks for all the info so far from everyone :) My appointment…

Amen to that. I dropped from 325 to 245 pounds over 18 months of keto, had a simple hernia surgery that threw off my entire routine and i fell off track. It took a full year but I managed to gain it all back plus a little. Then came 6 more months of starting keto but not making it stick for more than a week or two...…

I kinda want to go buy a bike now.

Oh... the magnesium brand I take has the note: "This product recorded concerning levels of total arsenic " Ok...

Great writeup, thanks :)

I recently bought a treadmill desk from here: https://www.fully.com/jarvis-treadmill-desk.html I also own a "regular" jarvis sit-stand desk from the same company (I'm self employed and spend the vast majority of my time on the computer, I have a separate home office and another area for gaming/streaming/music). Love the…

Interesting. I was just about to reply to the comment before that which started out "Loads and loads of protein" and caveat that from the other end of the spectrum... that some people come into keto afraid of fat and think they're supposed to reduce carbs and increase protein, ending up on a low carb/low fat/waaaaaaaaay…

No carb days for me. They too frequently lead to falling off keto for weeks for me. https://www.reddit.com/r/ketorecipes/comments/6jwbcf/quick_keto_pizza/ That's my go to for keto "pizza" now. Its just Joseph's Lavash Bread (my local wal mart carries it in the bread aisle here in Indiana) as the crust and then whatever for…

Depends on where you are and how many places are available probably. There's one place in my area (raleigh/durham area in North Carolina, USA) that I'm aware of, I think I paid $75 when I got one a few months ago.

I don't do anything w/ my friends list where having folks on it who are inactive gets in the way of anything that I do on MFP, so I never remove anyone for inactivity. I've only removed folks if they frequently post things that I would rather not see. On MFP that's a very rare thing.

If I don't eat within a few hours of waking up it can occasionally cause some bathroom issues (or maybe I should say that eating something in the morning is part of keeping things running smoothly for me). Outside of that exception, I only eat when I'm hungry.

I was diagnosed type 2 5'ish years ago, initial a1c was 7.5. I was able to get my numbers into a normal range on a "standard" diet but was miserable. With keto I have gotten off all meds and my blood sugar readings are always ideal. For the last year and a half my a1c is under 4.5, essentialy in a non-diabetic range. When…

My only goals for the year are to lose weight and follow through on my plan to move. As far as official resolutions, I prefer keeping it simple: - Net carbs under 25g a day - no more cheat meals/days/weeks - Medidate daily That's it. My first 18 months on keto I cheated once. I'm not quite sure why for the last 6 months I…

Lose weight in 2016. I had lost a total of 90 pounds from my highest weight coming into 2015, and I maintained that weight loss, but had lots of ups and downs and for the last 6 months of 2015 was constantly in a cycle of cheating for a week then getting back on track for a week. So the good news is that I went a year…

I found that Quest Bars made my blood sugar go up a bit more than eating real food and wasn't entirely comfortable with that, so I stopped buying them. If I buy them, I'll eat them anyway instead of saving them for the rare occasions that I could truly benefit from their convenience. For sweet cravings... if I don't eat…

Same, mine seems to be fairly easily managed with Metronidozole (sp?) so it isn't too big a deal for me, but there was no different before or after keto for me.

For me I've finally learned that if I get down on myself or beat myself up for making a mistake, it really just compounds the mistake and makes me more likely to spiral out of control. This is true in all parts of my life, not just with food. I still try to look at choices I make that aren't the best and figure out how to…

11/4: Weight 275.1 (cautious goal to stay at or below 275 through the holidays) Didn't cheat any yesterday (stress leading to lots of cheating lately, if I can't knock it out, at least work hard to limit it and don't let it get out of control) Went to the gym yesterday (continue to exercise regularly no matter what happens…

Thanks, this is a good idea, and one I haven't really considered yet even though I see others talk about it here regularly. Perhaps next Sunday I will take my laptop to the kitchen to stream the day's NFL games and cook for the week! Things will get better soon. The move is very close to set in stone. When I moved back…

That's awesome man, congrats, love the picture too.

Well I sure fit the theme here, if not for the same reason. I'll unload a little here, hope its ok. I currently live with my mom and sister. I moved back home a number of years ago to help take care of my dad, who had cancer. He passed away about 2 years ago after an extremely long, slow decline. Its time to get back out…
