Seems like this child's issues are more than just with food. I assumed the poster to which I replied was talking about a healthy child.
They are autistic - so obviously it is. Autistic children are just as 'healthy' as non-autistic btw.
How can you carry a medical diagnosis and be "healthy"? It…

My parents raised us with a balanced diet. Big treats at our house were fresh peaches in the summer and artichokes at Easter supper. We were raised to like fruits and veggies and healthy food. That being said, we also had McDonald's (don't like it to this day), treats in our lunches, ice cream, etc. We understood that…

In a year? TOTALLY do-able. You have OVER a year to train for it. Getting past the first mile without stopping, then the first 5 miles without stopping. Those were the first two big steps for me when I first started running. Once I got past 5 miles, it was smooth sailing getting to 10. I did my first half in November and…

awesome-thanks!

If you have 6 weeks until your race you should still have time to build a little bit more...if you can do 10 miles, you're good for the half.

I was at a point last month when running 10 miles was easy-ish for me. With the holidays, that tapered a bit but I think I can get back there. Biggest issue is that I work on Wednesdays (my mid-week run) so I'd be stuck either running the dark (would need to invest in some gear if I do that) or run on a treadmill (which…

Pole dance for 2 hours.

Excellent point...I'm going to be sure I at the very least take the rest days that are scheduled for me.

Thanks for the advice! I think some deep stretching and Pilates in the morning should do just fine. Abs, arms and stretching. :)

Check out skinnytaste.com-she has a recipe for breakfast quinoa that's awesome. It cooks just like rice...once it's cooked, you can make it like hot cereal or you can use it as a substitute for rice...or use it cold in salads (it makes an awesome greek salad-just add a homemade or bottled greek dressing to taste, chunks of…

Doing my first full marathon in October this year...did my first half in November. Working on building mileage and I'm following a training schedule by Hal Higdon...any advice from veteran marathoners out there?

Homemade hoppin' john and cornbread. Maybe some veggies.

Well if I had membership to a gym/fitness center that had a pool, I'd totally do that, but I don't. Walking lately has been nagging at my knee a bit, so I'm leaning towards Pilates and deep stretching on my rest days...but I feel like I want to stay active and mobile...I know the week of my race I'll be taking complete…

I believe it is against the law to share some information (ex: a 16 year old girl that decides to get an abortion)...if you are over the age of 18, the information cannot be shared without your consent... Doctor/patient confidentiality. Regardless of relationship

Already ate one cookie that a nurse brought in to the center today...it was tiny. I'm talking half a golf ball size. Turns out the sucker is 168 calories!!! To quote Charlie Brown here "GOOD GRIEF!" Came upstairs to the OBGYN clinic and the head physician is like "Hey, Maureen! We have birthday cake!" Monday...everyone is…

I just looked this up. I'm going to have to try this. It sounds epic.

We make shopping a FUN experience...by either shopping online or going to somewhere small a week or 2 after Thanksgiving is over...avoid the madness of Black Friday. Our family tradition was always to decorate our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving and enjoy the time together...when I was in college I was working…

I put together different playlists depending on my mood. Right now it's autumn music (folk, instrumental, indie stuff...) soon it'll be Christmas music...I never get tired of music though. I'd try podcasts or audiobooks...RadioLab is a very interesting podcast. I just did my first half this past weekend. I didn't have…

I have this exact problem because my lower back is really in sad shape and I have a "sway back" or really bad concave shape in my lower back where my stomach pooches out. It's not that the stomach is big it's that it is sticking out because your lower back is so curved. I work daily on trying to remind myself to work on…

Still living off the high of yesterday's NSV. Ran 13.6 miles/my first half marathon and with a faster pace than I ever have. Finished before my goal time.
-
Well it all went really well yesterday. I wasn't top in my age or category, but I beat my own personal best on 5k, 10k, 15k, 10 mile and my overall pace. I stuck with a pacer the whole time and that helped SO much. Bathroom wasn't as big of an issue as I thought it would be. My blood sugar stayed pretty stable for most of…

I mean....why are you vegetarian? is it for health reasons? There are ways to incorporate meat into your diet in a healthful way...if it's for political or spiritual convictions I can't help you.

Hahaha-the last part made me giggle.
