Here's my 2 cents. My first triathlon was about the same distance as yours. I swam indoors when training, did not do an open water swim until the race. I biked outside with my mountain bike, and ran outside as well. Personally, I don't think there's anything to be concerned about when thinking about running indoor vs…

When I say simultaneously, I mean more that I have 2 goals I'm trying to achieve at the same time. The first is weight loss and body definition, while the second is training to do well in the triathlons. I feel that just strictly training for a triathlon isn't going to get me the full results I want in my first goal. Sure,…

And I think my struggle is that I'm trying to do two things simultaneously - get my body in to the desired physical shape, while also training for triathlons.

I will be doing triathlons next year, likely upping the distance - probably nothing more than an olympic distance, somewhere around 1 mile swim, 30 mile bike, 6 mile run. My swim needs the most improvement, as I was only pacing 2:15/100m, which placed me in the bottom 2/3 overall. I will definitely take a look at the…

In the oven as we speak...that was easy!

Just saw this, happen to have all the ingredients downstairs. Going to make it right now.

This has been one of the hardest things to overcome for me. After college, I was about 160, met someone, put on about 25-30lbs, broke up, went back down to 160. Met my wife, put on 30lbs, took it off before wedding, put it back on after wedding (plus some), and now i'm down nearly 30 pounds with about 15 to go. My wife and…

My gym just installed one last week, going to try it today. I'm sure they'll get more...especially for the price I pay in membership fees!

It's not that I'm worried, it was just interesting to see the trending - as my body fat went down, my water weight went up. Wasn't sure if that was the norm of not. Thanks everyone for the input

I measure first thing when I wake up

Only 1 day a week with weights, sometimes none. Currently I'm only limited to cardio for the next 6 months.

Thanks everyone for the valuable information - I've learned a lot today :)

That's something that didn't click - height and gender. That definitely makes a big difference. I guess I just don't fully understand how the HR monitor can accurately calculate calories burned if it just has HR, age, weight, height, gender - I would of thought it needs to know the workout as well (i.e. running, swimming).…

My HR monitor does have a strap, which is how I'm getting my HR. The machines are picking up my HR based off the reading coming from the monitor I'm wearing. I guess I really should read up more on how these things work...because if I'm running on a treadmill at 6mph, and the treadmill is reading my true HR via my monitor,…

Thanks all - I'm going to look at the foam mats. Do they hold to the ground pretty well? Last thing I would want is to be doing Insanity and the mat slides and I fall...haha

What do you mean 10rms?

I'm going to spend the weekend reading through it all. I started looking at Allpro's routine as well. I guess my main question is since I still have some weight I need to lose, do I focus on that and then move towards something like Allpro's routine?

Well, for one, I want to slim down my stomach and get more upper body strength. I don't want to be some jacked guy, though - slim and cut is what I'm looking for. When I was 165, I did it by training for triathlons: run, swim, bike. Ate better and cut out alcohol. I wasn't cut, and I felt I still had a little to lose…

I hear all about HIIT workouts, but I can't seem to find many 'free' one's online to check out. Do you have any recommendations?

I have suffered from shin splints for years. I think part of the problem is that I have a mild case of bowing in my legs. The shin splints got so bad that I needed physical therapy. However, I did learn ways how to prevent them. First, you'll want to rest your legs until the shin splints are no longer there. In the…

My breakfast either consists of Fiber One English Muffin (100cal) and either 2 eggs (140cal) or 2tbsp of peanut butter (190cal).

Agreed with comments above. A lot of people post on here that they aren't losing weight, and after looking at their diary, they just simply aren't eating enough calories. It took a while for me to really grasp that concept, but for most people it's true. Just try to make sure that your diary is as accurate as possible and…

Here's what YOU need to do: make your own foods. I'm sure that's not what you want to hear, but if your mother will not change the way she cooks, then YOU and only YOU can change what you're eating. While that southern cooking is damn good, there's enough calories in dinner alone to max you out for the day. One day while…

yes, exactly. my 'mini meals' usually fall between 200-400 calories each. breakfast 290, lunch 300, greek yogurt 150-175, dinner usually a little more but 500 or below, sometimes throw in a protein bar around 200 cal... it's been working for me very well (outside of the fact that I threw that plan away on my honeymoon ;) )

Everyone is different, but I try to eat something every 2-3 hours 6am breakfast - english muffin w/ pb 10am snack - grapes 11-12 gym 1230 lunch - salad w/ tuna, chicken, etc 2pm snack - greek yogurt 330pm snack - apple 6pm dinner 8pm - evening snack i sometimes get a hunger urge, but not for long since i break up my eating…

I started eating Tilapia which is really good and healthy. Also, I have Oral Allergy Syndrome, so fruits & veggies were always a problem for me. I now can eat salad, carrots, grapes, apples. Love tuna fish, and I just recently came across Bumble Bee's premium tunas w/ flavors (jalapeno, sun dried tomato, etc) soooooo good…

I was doing a little bit of food shopping today and came across the new Yoplait Greek Yogurt, 100 calories. Anyone ever try these? http://www.yoplait.com/products/yoplait-greek-100-yogurt I don't see it say "Greek-style" anywhere. I picked some up to try since they're only 100 calories, very low in sugar/carbs, and good…

I seriously can't believe some of the comments people are posting on here. For those saying they eat 1200 calories for breakfast, or 2800 calories for the day... GET A CLUE! Not everyone is trying to put on insane amount of muscle mass. Not everyone is trying to gain weight in general. Not everyone has a high metabolism…

I had this very same issue a couple years ago. I went to physical therapy and it was very painful what I had to go through. The PT had to 'work out' the shin splints out of my inner legs, pushing as hard as he could - excruciating. It's hard to just stop all together, so reducing the distance, speed and frequency can…
