  • I'm 4ft 10in - at my current weight of 118lbs I should be able to maintain with 1,620 calories a day depending on my activity levels. At my goal weight of 98lbs, my maintenance cals will be 1,485.
  • Honestly, that's up to you. It might be helpful for you to check your weight every week since you're concerned about the state of your metabolism, and weighing yourself may be a good way to understand how your body is reacting to your increase in cals. When I reach maintenance in the future, this is what I will do.
  • If your maintenance calories are a lot higher than what you're used to eating on a regular basis, then I would add on 100-200 cals a week until you reach maintenance happily. And yes, at some point after maintenance you should stop putting on any weight, and this is the moment at which you might consider losing those last…
  • Though, I would lay off trying to lose any more weight at this point and just concentrate on maintaining for a couple of months. Again, work out your TDEE and eat to that number of calories, whilst expecting to gain a little. Pretty much what everyone else is saying. I doubt that your metabolism is shot - people hit…
  • Oh also, take someone who's been restricting their daily calories to maybe about 500 or lower for say two years, I've read that it may take months if not a year and then some to recover from the metabolic side effects of this. Relatively speaking, your calorie limit hasn't actually been that low, along with the fact that…
  • Just curious, how do you know that your metabolism is damaged? Has your weight loss plateaued out? If you don't know how to tell that your metabolism is back to normal, how can you be certain it's that damaged now? xx
  • A new wardrobe, though this will probably be a gradual process. To start with, a new pair of jeans. :)
  • I would say you might be right bang in the middle of the overweight category. That's how I looked in tight trousers a couple of months ago.
  • I discovered the same thing as well after I exercise strenuously. I would just chalk it up to water retention. If you keep eating modestly, you'll probably find a happy dip in your weight later on in the week. That's what usually happens to me!
  • I find that a lot of my extra poundage after heavy eating comes from food that's still sitting in my digestive tract and hasn't been broken down yet. Not necessarily from actual fat you think you've gained over that period of time. Perhaps give it a week of light eating with plenty of water and then see where you're at! :)
  • I don't understand how a 4 year old girl could get that muscular though?
  • I don't eat late at night because when I do, I wake up in the morning feeling really bloated, and it makes me feel that I'm not looking after my food intake properly. But I'm sure that even if I eat late yet keep to my daily calorie goal, after a week I will still have lost the projected amount of weight expected anyway. I…
  • It's probably worth mentioning that some people are simply more genetically disposed to eating greater amounts of food than they actually need. There have been experiments conducted on elementary school kids where after school lunches, additional delicious snacks were set down on everyone's table and the teachers observed…
  • This is probably a thread that didn't need resurrecting, but I'm going to reply anyway just so that I can express a few things. Firstly, I do exercise 4-5 times a week, mostly cardio but some strength training in there also. However, I wouldn't call exercising for 1/2 an hour to 1 1/2 hours each day, while I spend the rest…
  • Particularly on MFP, no one is going to openly advocate an extreme, calorie restrictive diet plan. I don't advocate it either - it's the kind of thing that sets you up for binge eating, and speedy weight regain because of the psychological and physiological difficulties you're putting your body through. What I will say…
  • I tend to lose between 1 - 1.5 pounds a week. I feel it's a good rate for me with a goal to lose about 2 stones. Not too fast, but then not too slow. :)
  • Hey SHBoss, lol no my 'goal weight' is 98lbs! From 140lbs I'm trying to lose 42lbs so that I can go down to around 7st. But to be perfectly honest with you, at this stage my short term goal weight is really 7st 9lbs. That's a loss of 2 stones and 5 lbs. I've already cut down on 12 lbs now so I'm looking to lose one…
  • Does anyone actually know how much of a deficit it takes to drag your body into starvation mode?? I know that like BMR's and TDEE's it's going to be different for everyone, but similarly to those numbers there must be a way to work out where the danger zone lies for each individual person if they were to keep up with such…
  • Yes, I do exactly that. I don't eat after 7pm, and I tend not to have my first meal until around 11am the next day. (This is just temporary though whilst I'm still on holiday. When college comes around I'll switch breakfast up to 9am instead.) I've been at this every day for a few weeks now and I've found my weight loss to…
  • Yea, I would absolutely agree with what this poster is saying. In addition, I would also recommend contacting another nutritionist for a second opinion. I kind of agree that 1200 sounds pretty low for maintenance, but then I have no formal education in this field. If you can find another professional who agrees with your…
  • My wrist watch now spins around my wrist very loosely, despite my using the very last hole. I'm going to have to poke a new hole into the strap soon. It's funny because my wrists have always been the skinniest part of me... I don't know I even had any fat to lose from there!
  • Woah! I'm 4'10" an would look very, very slender at that weight. I can't imagine what it would look like on a 5'3" frame! But as the previous poster said, in your case you probably just need to tone up. I would say don't focus *too* much on cardio and take up weight lifting. It will tone you down completely, probably…
  • Yeah, I concur. If you're eating a well balanced diet then you shouldn't really be looking for any kind of extra supplements, since the B vitamins in particular I think cannot be removed by the liver, only used up when the body needs them. Excess build up of this in the body can be very harmful, so there is a risk of…
  • I've officially been on MFP for around 45 days now and I've lost just over 8lbs. During that time I've been keeping a detailed log each day of my calorie deficits and my calorie burns from exercise on an offline spreadsheet. What I've discovered is that about a THIRD of my calorie deficit is as a result of exercise.…
  • You think you're fat... but your goal weight loss is just under 5lbs?
  • My dad's always *joking* with me about my weight, calling me names, pointing out where I'm fattest. I tell him very plainly how much I hate when he does that, but he continues to take it as a joke every time. I try to give him the silent treatment afterwards, but he never gets the message and my conviction never sticks. He…
  • I really agree with this. Shorter men have it much worse. Somehow it's a much less forgiving situation.
  • Well I'm 4'10", 20 years old, and have had people guess my age to be around 13. :grumble: I find that people ignore me *a lot* and sometimes I feel that they think they can walk all over me, without fear of an antagonistic reaction on my part. But I've never thought that it's to do with my height. It's because I'm too nice…
  • I did hear from a friend that it's recommended not to eat after 7pm. Not sure *who* it's recommended by exactly... but what I actually try to do is fast for about 14-16 hours overlapping with my sleep, so I don't eat after 7pm and I have my first meal after 9 or 10am the next morning. It's much easier to do this during the…
