Lack of patience is going to be my weakest link. When the first inevitable plateau hits, for example.

This is my second go-around with the site. Can't really recall why I stopped the first time (about 2 years ago). Seeing better results this time around, however.

Congrats! I know exactly how that feels, having seen almost the same exact number this morning, down from about 312 :). It's like you say "I don't ever want to see a 3 again" Next stop, 275.

Years and years and years of a combination of being comfortable in my situation, a desk job, *really* enjoying food & alcohol, and a dose of not caring too much (stemming from a variety of other reasons). Even at my most fit years ago, I had a pretty awful diet by most standards. When you're (back) in the habit of closely…

Years of inattentiveness + a desk job, and the weight slowly just packed on. There's more to it than that of course, but that's the general story :).

Yep. A typical day for me is supposed to be 1870 calories + about 950 for the jog = 2820 - about 1300 calories actually consumed = 1520 calories left over. Thanks for the replies folks!

Amazing how many folks in this thread can make assessments on this guy's motives while knowing exactly 1/2 the story.

By the pound, or by how I feel physically. Even a minor improvement is success, as I've certainly come to grips that this is a very slow / consistent sort of process

I'd prefer to be treated as a normal person (vs how overweight folks are viewed and approached in this society), rather than hear a compliment. So not being comfortable with attention is now a victim mentality? You realize some folks are unhappy for other reasons, yes?

I can easily feel even something like a few lbs difference, even though it might not be visible to others, or in pics. Not sure how something like 20 lbs doesn't feel noticeably different to folks.

Happiness and health trump all when it comes to preference, but really.... ^ blasphemy!!. Is the Mona Lisa just some oil on canvas? :)

Nothing. It's just more about cutting back on volume as required.

Yes, you will. When I started exercising this year, I couldn't jog for more than 15-20 seconds at a time. Started going to the gym, and doing intervals on a treadmill (alternating between walking at 3.3mph, and running at 7), and would just try to continue getting a few more seconds of run time in each visit It was like…

If the option made the most sense, sure.... i hate even going over the same tarmac 2x on my jogs however, not sure why that is :)

Fake sugar is fake. I'll take the real thing in smaller quantities, or just go without altogether, thanks. Rewind this same discussion a few hundred years and it's "don't be silly, mercury in makeup isn't bad for you!" :D

If you think about how humans evolved, it's unlikely that you 'need' 3 meals per day, just eat when you're actually hungry. I do eat breakfast, but not till around 10-11am... I find that as I get older, I simply have no appetite first thing in the morning.

I just started with this site (19 days ago), but being obsessive about it seems to come with the territory, at least until what you do is 100% habit? I haven't changed *what* I eat really, but do feel constantly tied to this site recording frequency and portions, both of which are my biggest enemies. But given the weight…

To make life easier. Every single aspect of life requires less effort when you're fit, that's all there is to it. From how you move to what you buy to what you can accomplish with far less effort, to how others look at you, to how you view yourself (which is most important of all.. Whoever said "it never gets easier, you…

It's certainly lower impact. I can certainly say that for myself, the motion of an eliptical is murder on my knees and hips, I get a better and less painful workout simply jogging (or cycling), but everyone is different

Excellent results.. can I ask how long this took you? I'm following the process here pretty religiously, on week 3 now, and man that scale needle moves .s..l....o.....w.......l.....y :)
