I personally have a big issue with shin splints, and have one of the biggest issues for me was that I am a heel striker. I tend to extend my legs out too far, thus forcing my heel to hit first, then the rest of my feet to my toes would slap on the ground. This created a lot of pressure on my shins, and I assume caused me…

If its close to the spine it could be related to the spine. I always had really bad back pain when doing anything, and stupidly assumed it was muscle issues, but in reality my spine was curved, causing pain throughout my back even to the sides. I needed months of spinal correction from a chiropractor, now but back is…

I love it, will definitely try it!

I agree on buffalo sauce, I always have a craving, and any new restaurant I went to, I always had to try the wings or tenders as sauces vary so much. Sodium is high, but to fill a craving without eating wings or something fried is a tradeoff I'm OK with. I make baked chicken fingers with either regular bread crumbs, using…

Hello!

Some people like Pedialyte. Yep. I just drink tons of water and have to eat something. edit: or a BLOODY MARY...best hangover cure ever, can't taste the vodka...the spicier the better (if your stomach can handle it)
-
hehe I hope you didn't take that the wrong way...I meant sometimes guys are a little too competitive about stupid things (myself included)...fantasy sports come to mind (again something I do)
-
Contests would be great, I am currently setting up a competition between friends. Being a guy, I am as competitive as they come, even if its for bragging rights! I think that would be a great motivator for people on this site, very much agreed.

I got a HRM at Walmart for like $50 and was surprised that it does calculate calories. You need to use the strap so it has a constant reading of your heart. Good luck!

If MFP has already set you up to say lose 1 pound per week, then you are set up for a 500 calorie deficit per day. If you burn 300 calories in working out, and don't eat the 300 calories, then you are now at an 800 calorie deficit. You run the risk of being too low on your calories, which can put your body into starvation…

I like Werther' Originals to get me by, so tasty, and only 20 cals

I get them too, only on my left shin. So frustrating to work up to running much longer than I ever could, only to have shin splints slow me down. I took 2 weeks off and only did elliptical, and as soon as I went back to running, there it was again.
-
I like it a lot too. I usually swap in between skim milk, soy milk, and almond breeze.

That sounds like Gold's Gym to me. I had a two week trial there, and heard nightmares about trying to cancel with them. Every time I went in, before I could even hit the locker room I was bombarded by sales reps trying to get me to sign up. Was very annoying so I went to my work gym which has much less but they don't annoy…

I use adijustable dumbbells for weight training at home, very convenient to have all different weights available in one dumbbell, rather than a whole set taking up all sorts or room. 50lb max dumbbells: http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/Stamina-50-pound-Versa-Bell-II-Adjustable-Dumbbells-Set-of-2/3185125/product.html…

right, so for volume or weights, it is simply to edible parts. most fruits do also list something like small, medium or large, with diameter of the fruit/veggie too if you don't want to have to cut something up and measure it to enter it.

welcome aboard! this site is great, if you have questions, ask, people are always ready to help. Also, searching the forums can be helpful too, as most questions I have had already been answered previously. Best of luck!

Glad to hear everything worked out for you :-) I know we are coming up on summer and most people prefer to work out outside. But, I would recommend an elliptical machine workout for low impact. Also bike riding may be another option?

and maybe advertising on fruit is a good thing? What if they pass the money they make on the ads as savings to you? Would that be OK then? I think then I'd be OK with it. Everything is a commercial these days, even inside TV shows, there product placement we don't even conciously notice.

HAHA! Bottom line is, if Nike+ is giving you the calories burned, you can estimate which one (3mph, 3.5mph, etc) to enter, but make sure to override the calories burned that MFP thinks, and put in what Nike+ says. You want to track calories burned, so you could even create an exercise that says Nike+ and just put in the…

All you do is take 60 and divide by that number. So for a 10 minute mile, 60/10=6mph on a treadmill for example. So 14min 22 secs or 14.37 minutes per mile is 60/14.37= average pace of 4.18mph
-
I like that, a good way to gauge whether you are working hard enough or not. I may have to track that way too, although adjust for my weight.
-
I usually set my goal for 500. Even I am not up for a full run, for say 30 mins to get 500, I will do the elliptical or something less taxing to get me to 500. It actually bothers me when I don't have time to get to 500.

I have run into this, and for me I think its more mental than anything else. I try to do all these good things, exercise, eat right, but for me, sleep weel, but when I work out a ton, I just have this feeling like I earned it, and can "get away" with eating something bad, or overeating.
