I'm 5'8". I deal for me is between 145 and 155. At 160, I begin to get too soft and don't like the way my clothes fit.

Winter is difficult. I'm Canadian and feel like I don't get outside except to get from the building to the car to the building for six months of the year. I don't like the cold. By late December, I can have seasonal affective disorder in full swing! But, you have to fight it. Even if you feel your strength has left you,…

You'll need a food scale. Trust me, you won't regret the small cost; you'll find yourself using it for everything. I looked it up once and can't recall the source, but 85 grams of dry pasta is 176 grams cooked. I just cook a mess of pasta and then take 176 grams and charge myself for the 85 grams dry.

We are of similar build - I was 160 lb when I decided I wanted to lose some weight, and I'm 5'8.5". I, however, was starving at 1200 and having headaches I was so weak and hungry. After reading the school of thought on here about eating more to lose, I decided to go out on a limb and try it. By tweaking my weight loss goal…

Free weights are much better, especially for women because the machines are built for men-sized people. I started in September with New Rules of Lifting For Women. Google that. It's an awesome program. DON'T BE AFRAID!!!

You said everything there is to say in just 3 lines. We are living proof. Good on ya, girlfriend.

NROL4W. I'm in stage 4 of 8 and loving what it's doing for my shape and strength. Just do it. xo

You need to do something where you see results. Try some heavy lifting for a few weeks and, even if you don't like it, you will love what you see happening in the mirror and how strong you feel.

Hey, Bonnie. I'm 43, 5'8, at maintenance for over a year now. Started at 160, dropped to 145, now 150 and perfect. Started strength training back in September. Would love to have you along!

I'd invest in a consult with a personal trainer. You need a good solid program to commit to and focus on and would really benefit from a program designed specifically for your needs.

You teach people how to treat you. Trust needs to be give and take, earned and deserved.

Your gym routine needs to be interesting, progressively harder, and be demanding enough to get you visible results on a regular basis. Being able to actually see your shape changing over relatively short periods of time (six weeks, say) is VERY motivational. Look into some heavy lifting programs - New Rules of Lifting For…

There are lots of good points listed already. Go to bed at 9. Keep yourself well hydrated and properly nourished all the times. Also, get all your prep work done the night before. I have my bag packed and in the car, lunch made, gym gear at the bedside ready to jump into. All I have to do is have a bite to eat, brew a…

No! Coffee is the opposite of water. For every 6 oz cup of coffee you drink, you need to drink 12 oz of water just to bring you back square from a hydration standpoint. Coffee is a diuretic and causes dehydration!!!

I'm in stage 2 of NROL4W and I think it's a great program. Would definitely recommend getting the book. I don't find that I needed a PT to show me how, as the instructions are so very clear and there are photos. Do your early lifts with totally managable weight and use a mirror and the instructions. DO get your form right.…

We have a nice theatre set up, but no TV service. We use the TV to watch movies on DVD or Blueray and also use it for a bit of gaming. I used to watch hockey, but after years without feel silly having ever been a fan. WIthout TV, before long you wonder how you ever had time to sit and watch TV.

I just finished stage 1 of The New Rules of Lifting for Women. 16 work outs in 5 weeks. You should check that out! As for cardio, the trick is intervals and lots of good music. I chase my lifting routines with a 20 minute work out on the treadmill, hill program at level 20 at 3.7 mph with a 10 pound weight belt on. Oh, and…

Just posted this on my status this morning: Stage 1 NROL4W completed, sixteen workouts in five weeks. My weight is steady at 148.5 lb, averaging 2100 calories a day. SQUAT: Started with body weight, two sets of 15, finished with 35 lb (total) barbell, three sets of 8. PUSHUP: Started on an incline using a bench, two sets…

I'm with you in that I don't like a crowd at a gym. Yes, I'm self conscious, and yes I want to use what I want to use when I want to use it. I own it. Fortunately for me, I live in a relatively small town and use my gym from 6-7 a.m. when there is NO ONE THERE BUT ME! :D If not for that, I'd probably have to outfit a home…

I'm 5'8", 43 years old, 150 lb. I consider myself at maintenance. I have MFP set to sedentary due to my job and get 1700+ per day. When I exercise, usually something to count every day, I am over 2,000 and usually eat back every last bit of it. I have been doing this for a month now and holding steady, weight-wise.…

This may not be what you want to hear, but .... I tried to like running for a period of five years. I got so I could do 2-3 km nonstop, and 5km with two 1-minute walk periods. Running always made me feel absolutely exhausted. I did not like the way it made me feel. I could never get comfortable running, and, though I tried…

Chili cheese fries. Great, now I want chili cheese fries.

I didn't want to resort to protein shakes, either. I really would prefer to eat real food. However, even to get my protein up over 100, I found I had to eat protein every time I put something in my mouth and I was not enjoying it and eating way too much dairy. I found a vegan protein powder that I don't hate and it gives…

You need to decide to set yourself up as the example. LEAD. You are a strong woman and have the right instincts. Educate yourself, and then just lead by example. YOU are the only thing you can control. Live a life you can be proud of and, if others are smart, they will learn from you. YOU CAN.

Well, I may not be much help, but I think it's neat that I, too, am half-way throught Stage 1 of NROLFW. I am at goal weight, so this is not about weight loss for me at all. I want to get strong. My advice to you would be to allow that it is early yet. Very, very early. I don't feel like he's actually got me working that…

I LOVE my standard shift. When I bought my new car in the spring, the dealer told me only about 10% of the population still drives standard. I was irritated that fewer and fewer cars come standard. You can't even ORDER standard transmission is most cars these days. This makes me very, very sad. Probably, by the time I need…

It's a frustrating situation. I have a Polar FT4 and thought that would be the be-all, end-all. However, for the same workout, it gives me twice what MFP gives. TWICE! The machines are closer to MFP, but who knows what to believe. You'd think the $100 piece of equipment strapped to my chest and programmed with all my…
