Awesome! Thank you!

I like the way you think! I do love my fruits!

Someone in the challenge mentioned having a frozen banana to crave her sweet tooth the other day and I have done that a couple times since then and I felt very satisfied. But then again ... it brings my sugar count up ... and that's my problem, keeping my sugar below the 36g recommended.

Your post just made me soooooo grateful that I live alone! I don't know, because I haven't been tested yet, but it would seem to be so much more difficult to abstain in a household where all that stuff was readily available. I think my only salvation in a circumstance like that would be the fact that I try to maintain a…

My biggest challenge hasn't been in the "sugar free" thing. My problem is keeping my overall sugar level in an acceptable range because of the fruits I eat. I'm finding a lot of difficulty cutting out the fruit. Especially since I've been ill. All I've wanted to eat is fruit.

They're not called "failures" if you learn from them. They're called "learning experiences." Hope you recover quickly.

Thanks Ben! Yep .... I finally figured out that date sugar is supposed to be considered the "healthiest" of them all because it's a whole food. Went to the health food store yesterday to buy some but they were out. I'm considering making some of my own. Thanks for the link!

I know! I was surprised to see sugar in almost EVERYTHING!

My goal weight is exactly what they would consider on the high side of a healthy weight. I used to weigh 332. My current weight is 207.5. I've lost 125 pounds. I would be THRILLED to lose another 57 pounds and weight in at 150. According to the BMI chart, my healthy range is 111 - 150. I think it's a personal matter. If…

Stevia was one of the sweeteners listed in that "vegan" safe sugars article. I know. Bone char? Gross.
-
Oh that's hilarious! I hadn't heard that one before!!! Thanks for the chuckles!
-
I just found this article on vegan sweeteners. http://yummyplants.com/vegan-nutrition/vegan-sugar-and-other-natural-sweetener-options/

Thanks. What about date sugar ... is that safe?
-
Thanks for the info! That's cool that the sugar in the UK is from sugar beet. I'm going to just keep it out of my life to keep it simple for me, for now. I've learned, for myself, if it's too complicated, I won't stick to it. Going to work on unprocessed, whole foods. Thanks again. Have a great day.
-
Thanks Ben. Yep, I'm going to stick with the "no sugar" way of eating. Other than the sugar that I've now given up ... I have been successful in the vegan diet. I do feel much better. I feel better not only physically but about myself, that I'm doing what I can for the environment. Have a great day!

Today's a new day. Isn't it cool we get a fresh start like that?!

Hi Laura, Welcome to the group! I've already noticed a difference in the way I feel as well. Excited to have you here and excited to see this thing through and make some changes that will last!
-
Thanks. I ate a raw diet for awhile but I'm just not "there" yet. I couldn't maintain it for the long term and I settled for eating "more" unprocessed foods. But having said that ... looking back, thinking I was eating a totally "vegan diet" I am absolutely sure that I was getting my share of sugar in hidden places. I knew…

Good for you! The frozen banana sounds awesome. I've got some overly ripe bananas in my fridge right now that I'm going to do that with. I used to eat those fudgsicles everyday too. They're delicious. I went shopping today and got my Krema all natural peanut butter and was looking for different preserves and stuff and…

I had never thought of adding some pumpkin to oatmeal. That sounds scrumptious!

I microwave mine. Simple, easy, quick. I'm not a good cook either and I live by myself so most of my stuff is simply nuked. Try sprinkling them with some cinnamon. Sometimes, if I want them sweet, I'll put some stevia on them. Very good for you and filling too.

Congrats on making it through the day with no added sugar! Yep, the evenings are the hardest. That's the goal ... start where you are and make consistent, healthy changes. It's a lifestyle change .. not a diet
-
I think that's what the challenge is all about. Start where you are. Any healthy change is progress :-)
-
Oh well. Tomorrow's a new day :-) Yeah, I set my sugar back to the default of 36. If I go over, I go over. I'm not going to sweat it. I'm going to be happy with all the healthy changes I've made thus far and later, when I'm ready ... that can be addressed if I feel it a need. At one point in my life I was a fruitarian. So…

Thanks! I'm going to check out that site. Love recipes!!!!
-
Thanks. I'm still in that early stage ... I've just replaced all the "unnatural" and mainly processed foods with unprocessed and healthier versions of foods. Adding fruit was progress for me and it worked for a long time. Now begins the real work of replacing fruits with more veggies. I love the constant evolving
-
Congratulations to everyone for your strides in going sugar free! Remember, be patient with yourself ... this is a whole new way of life.

My day went great as far as no added sugars. I don't think that it will be very difficult for me. The thing that I am finding challenging is keeping my natural sugar intake down. I love fruit. One mango threw me over today. Today wasn't my healthiest day ... I don't pay a lot of attention on the weekends to eating balanced…

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to adjust my sugar to 50. I love a banana at least during the day. I love smoothies. It looks like I'm going to be getting a bit more creative with the eating to satisfy that need.

Thanks for the tips and the list of sugar names. That's a heck of a list!!!
