Cardio, strength and recovery work in a single day = perfection!

That sounds like fun!

Tri club's annual Pie Ride today. It was a hilly 45 mile out and back with a stop for apple pie at the halfway mark. Weather was warm, perfect day to ride. Over 3300 ft of climbing, mostly on the return route.

Like the tracking format you use. Simple and effective when the numbers are staring right at you!

Agree. It took me awhile to understand what reward motivated me to change(i.e. make better food choices) at first. Re: first bolded comment - I started to see not only physical appearance changes, but also the potential for a return to physical activities I enjoyed previously. As this possibility became more and more…

Seems to me that long term success is mostly about habit formation. Replacing the negative activities that bring short term reward, with new habits(formed over time) that deliver a new "reward". Motivation comes and goes, but once habits are solidly entrenched, things become almost automatic, such as with diet and…

@Ann, yes, you are geeking out here, lol! Good stuff. I now know that I want deep, smooth puddles when I row! I met two friends for an uncharted trail run for about an hour today in a local wildlife management area. Foliage is nearing its peak around us, so the woods were glowing at sunset. Only saw two MTB riders during…

OP, you've received a bunch of great suggestions. I'll throw in my two cents: If you have any interest in swimming, that's a great place to start. Its low impact and yet its great for both muscles and cardiovascular health. It also tends to be relaxing. I also get bored quickly, so I like to find a couple things I enjoy…

Jumped on the bike for an hour after work and got in a 16 mile ride. Losing daylight quickly, so evening rides are shorter.

Easy 35 minute trail run at lunch. Slow paced run, just enjoying perfect fall weather. I'm very excited to resume working with my personal trainer next week. She is very disciplined in her approach and always gives me the "naked truth", often very bluntly. Yesterday, after looking at my notes, plus an RD's eating plan that…

Really enjoy these pictures. Nice work.

Getting the itch to return to regular activities. Will meet with my favorite personal trainer this evening to put together a plan for the offseason.

Enjoying the first few weeks of recovery after 8 months of training and racing. Fun group bike ride yesterday with no pace, power or heart rate goals. We did a modest distance "out and back" route, with a challenging 1.1 mile climb to a local tower at the far end of the route. Just finished writing notes on what worked and…

Also had a great experience at IMCHOO. Love the vibe of that place. Downstream swim was a big help to me. Really enjoyed the bike course, riding it at a very modest power output per coach's recommendation. Run ended up being a big dose of walking, given that I met a tri club friend in T2 who was really suffering stomach…

Gave my legs a first real test since race day. Joined a group of six other friends for an annual Castle Climb ride. Trip was 16 miles out, then a 1.1mile trip up to Castle Craig, an uphill climb that varies between 6-9% grade. Return on the same route, with a nasty little surprise at the end. Turned onto a beautiful last…

I can understand that feeling. I'm guessing that boot camp is fairly high intensity, so five days of that stuff, plus two trainer sessions is probably a substantial load. Be sure to get some recovery time in!

Took the dog with me for a first "run" since race day. It was an easy effort along a 2.5 mile hilly trail through the woods and along a pond. Walked most of the hills, then ran the flats and downhills. No worries about pace, HR, or distance. Decided to quit after just one loop. I can still feel some residual fatigue, so no…

Sounds like great progress. I find a run/walk very helpful. A number of people in my training group use a 4:1 run/walk on many of our long runs. The 1 minute walk allows heart rate to come down and you can gather yourself for the next 4 min run block. Then, you tell yourself " I only have to hang on for 2 more minutes"…

First real exercise in ten days. Took my bike outside for an hour spin along the river. About 15 miles of no heavy work, just smooth pedaling. Felt pretty good.
-
You remain as steady as a metronome, my friend!!

I really like this and believe it to be true. Motivation comes and goes for all of us. I believe the real key is that discipline applied over time leads to habit formation. In my experience, once exercise and/or dietary habits have been formed, things become almost automatic and success follows. I'm 10 days removed from my…

Hey Kids, I've been away for quite awhile, but its good to see some of the long time regulars are still here. At one month shy of 64 years old, guess I'm part of the 40++ club, lol. After a few more weeks of recovery from my final 2021 race (on 9/26/21), I'll slowly resume modest swim, bike and run work. Starting in…

That's really moving well on a MTB!

Recovery this week. Walking is manageable, stair climbing is slow. Deep tissue massage tomorrow should help. Realizing I suddenly have lots of time to catch up on house and yard chores.
-
OP, you've received some great advice from others. I'll add my two cents: Since you are already able to swim, you could easily develop a swim habit that would improve your fitness. One of the great benefits of swimming is that it can build great cardio capacity while not subjecting your joints and muscles to the pounding…

Rode a beautiful bike course in northern georgia yesterday. The IM Chattanooga bike course runs through rolling hills and beautiful farmlands, just starting to show signs of fall.
-
Thanks. While everything hurts during the second half of the marathon, my hip wasn’t an issue since I didn’t push too hard. I’m descending stairs backwards today, but hope my quads and hamstrings will allow forward movement tomorrow. 😂
-
Agree! After training all spring and summer, I’m really looking forward to group social rides this fall.

IM Chattanooga done. Current made for a fast swim, rode a very controlled bike by following my power meter numbers. Beautiful bike course, which at 116 miles is 4 miles longer than the normal distance. I felt fairly strong after the controlled bike ride. Run was hilly and tough. After the bike split, I saw a friend who was…
