Great job! Isn't it amazing how a dress you think you look ok in can look WAY better after a "few" pounds are gone? At least the kind that doesn't hang off of you once you lose weight....

Oh yeah! Those things seem great because of protein and "healthy" carbs, but the grease and sodium make it awful for you. You could make something similar at home for WAY fewer calories (matter of fact, I did it yesterday after a 500 calorie workout). Good luck evening out your day, and if you don't, just remember it was…

It will actually help you lose weight because your body will stop retaining as much water. The first few days, you will pee A LOT, but then it will cut back to a more normal level. Unless you currently don't go that much, then it will definitely increase. My grandma used to have issues drinking enough water, and then we…

I see a lot of kids that will ride their bike while their parents jog. I used to LOVE going on walks with my dad when I was 9 and 10. It was amazing I could keep up with him since he's 6'5"! I also loved my mom's old Jane Fonda work out video. As long is it's not super hard, they actually love it. Also, teams sports and…

My waist band has gone down, but my cup size has gone up! It's crazy. I don't mind bigguns, I just want them to stay proportional to my shape. I was very hourglass in high school and college, before I gained the weight.

You should because your BMR changes as you weigh less, so your calorie goals will change.

@princesschic: I LOVE your disclaimer!

Vegetables! You can eat a TON of veggies for just a few calories. When I first started, I would get hungry all the time. I started keeping frozen veggies in my freezer because I could eat a whole bag for under 100 calories (depending, of course, on the type of veggie). The other day, I had 6 ounces of baby carrots (a…

I have a stationary bike that I used almost every day for a year. Then I moved and I never did find a great place for it. My ex-husband used to hang his damp towels on it, and now the part that tracks speed and time only works sometimes. So it doesn't get used very often. I'd like to get a treadmill or an elliptical, but I…

Alright, I'm a little older than you guys (mid-20s), but I had the same problem in college. Bye-bye to Mom's home-cooked dinners every night, hello pizza and sub sandwiches! I gained about 40 pounds in the four years I was in college, but the last two I tried EVERYTHING to keep off the weight and lose it before I got…

Oh man! Secret sodium can be ridiculous. Have you ever tried making your own? I don't have a recipe myself, but my old college roommate used to make her own. It's definitely easier to control sodium when your hand is the one putting on the salt.

This just shows that you haven't been trying to lose weight for ten or more years, nor have you ever been obese. You can *survive* on 800 calories, but you're not living a healthy lifestyle. The human body doesn't work that way. And I agree with jillerin. It really does make me worry about you and the concept of eating…

Find some higher calorie, but still healthy, snacks. Proteins and such. I can't see your food diary, but I know that sometimes when we are trying to eat healthy, we fill up on things that have virtually no calories, like veggies. Veggies are definitely good for you, but can fill you up for fewer calories than, say, nuts or…

I haven't gone swimming in seven years! I've never been too much of a "fish," but I bought a new suit way back seven years ago and it still has the tags on! It's a size 16. Maybe when I fit that, I'll think about getting a new suit, considering it's way out of style now!

Bump! I've never had this happen, but I'd be interested to know if anyone has an explanation. I'm studying anatomy right now, and just did a chapter on the female reproductive system. The book very clearly stated that exercise would help PMS symptoms. The only thing I can think of is that it might have been related to…

I've pretty much quite soda since I've been on MFP. I only get it occasionally when I eat out (I figure the food is so bad for me anyway....). I did not follow this plan, what with diet soda giving me stomach aches, but I'm proud to say I haven't owned a case of soda in MONTHS. So... Good luck, you can totally do this!

Protein and fiber are the two places you can definitely go over. Also, if you are exercising, you NEED more protein, but that doesn't increase when you add the calories you've burned into MFP.

I'm on this, too. I've gained weight since I've been on it, but there are 100 different things that could have caused it. I've been on it for about 5 years now, and I know I couldn't function without it. That said, I have lost 54 pounds since November. Losing weight is not easy, and every day I struggle with it, but I'm…

When you think about carbs, think about simple vs. complex varieties. If most of your carbs are from fruit, veggies, and whole grains, then you are OK. I'm usually over my carbs, too, but that's because I make sure I eat lots of fruit. When you are going to have pasta, choose whole grain pasta instead of regular. Same with…

I have a friend that wants to do one. The one he's looking at looks insane, though.

I had difficulty with stopping eating fast food. My husband would go out pretty much every night and get junk. We're divorced now, so I guess that's how I got over that one. I also gave it up for Lent, which really got me used to not having it. The day after Easter, I went and got Burger King as a reward, and I realized I…

Just remember it was a couple of days, and pick back up where you left off today. I frequently lose track of myself on the weekends. When I'm working I do a much better job of eating what I plan than the weekends when I'm off work.

I don't struggle so much with hidden calories as I do with hidden sodium. I have high-ish blood pressure, so I try very hard to stay within my range. It's almost impossible to eat in a restaurant, or even at someone else's house, without going over. So frustrating.

Thanks, everyone, for your input! I've passed on summaries of all of this information and given her some sources to look at to form her own opinion.

I think my friend's concern is that her daughter is still growing and going through puberty and all that, and she doesn't have the knowledge to know whether this is a bad thing or an ok/good thing. I think it's good that she's concerned for her daughter's well-being. Especially since this is a trainer and not a doctor or…

I've been doing this since November, and I just hit the 50 (+) pound mark in my weigh-in today. I was so excited!!! It's been so helpful to actually see what I eat each day, which decisions were good, which were bad. Love it!
-
This and I've noticed that some days you're not even eating 1200 calories. You want your body to use up your fat reserves, not store more because it thinks you are starving.

I'm 5'7" and my goal weight is 150. That's actually 10 pounds lighter than I was in high school, but within the "healthy" range of BMI for my height. Something somewhere told me it should be 140, but I can't imagine that with my bone structure. Plus I do like my curves.
