I'm using Libra and painstakingly entered in all my old weights going back through December. I like it okay, and like that it is automatic. But I still also prefer to put all my data into Excel and mess around with it there and make pretty charts and averages there (not just of my weight but of my daily caloric intake and…

Very true for me. I don't keep candy in the house unless I plan to eat it all that day. Which is fine. I just know I can't portion certain things out. Like chocolate candy, gonna eat all of it. Ice cream, probably gonna eat all or at least too much of it. I still eat fast food burritos and hamburgers on a regular basis. I…

I only do workouts I like. I walk every day, listen to music/podcasts/audio books as my reward while I am out walking. Also I find it helps not to cut calories too much, that will make me grumpy and make me feel mentally deprived even if I am not hungry. 2 lbs/week isn't worth it if I can't stick with it for very long. And…

Do you wear running socks? Are your running shoes larger than your normal shoes? Mine are a full size larger, it helps. Your feet swell when you run.

Hal Higdon's 10k program is a good one. Also would recommend: Bridge to 10k or One Hour Runner. If you are already running a 5k, I don't think you NEED to do a month of 30 mins / 3x a week first, unless you want to. When I started One Hour Runner back in the day it had me do 30 mins/3x a week for the first 3 weeks before…

What does starting a plateau mean? If it's only been 1-3 weeks since you lost weight last, that's not a plateau. That's a natural part of losing weight. But generally, losing/not losing all comes down to what you are eating. And it doesn't matter how "clean" you are eating. All that matters is if you are getting in fewer…

Maybe try to make sure you are going slow? Think about shortening your stride, take lots of small/quick steps. Expect there will be a couple weeks where you might be sore again in new places and you just have to get used to the new experience of being outside.

Well, the more calories you can eat the easier it is :p

Depends on what you want to use it for? Fitbit/Jawbone are good for tracking steps and making some estimates based on that and the info you give it. Even the ones that do have a HRM shouldn't be expected to be accurate for physical activity, because the wrist types are notoriously inaccurate. I have an UP3 that takes my…

I wouldn't tell these people you are going to call the cops before you call the cops...then you make yourself a target to them. Otherwise, good advice.

Agree it is still the alcohol. I've noticed the third morning after a big meal or high sodium etc. my weight will finally drop back down. Since I tend to eat more (intentionally) on the weekends, it takes until Wednesday morning before my weight normalizes. But also agree with others suggesting apps that will average out…

Great job! Plantar fasciitis - if you haven't already get some superfeet insoles or something similar. Put them in ALL you shoes, not just the shoes you workout/walk in. There are some stretches you can do too, you can look them up online. Like when you are sitting, take your shoes off and try to draw letters of the…

Well since you're asking for feedback... Are you weighing everything? I see things like "1 medium apple" and "2 large eggs". Those should be weighed and compared against a good entry (preferably USDA) that includes that item by weight. Some "quick add" calories. Since I don't know what those are, might be fine might not…

Running and lifting weights sounds good to me. Don't need a gym to run (just shoes and proper clothes). Lifting weights, if you can afford it you can start to buy weight equipment for yourself. Even just a set of adjustable dumbbells would probably be an okay start.

I really learned a lot from the New Rules of Lifting for Women book (though the routine I found long term to be too complicated, and am going to restart with Stronglifts). Got it from my local library if you are hesitant to drop the money. Also, I'd say don't have to NOT do cardio on your lifting days...but if you want to…

I have gotten adept at taking my phone out of my waist pack (fanny pack, stop laughing you Brits!) to change my music while on the go, but then I'm not very fast. I have not evolved to the next stage of buying things or ordering pizza like @20yearsyounger or @litsy3 yet though.

Came here to pretty much say this. Talk test, think jog not run. Take it easy. Speed will come later, I promise.

Yes I was really self conscious when I started. Used to wear more clothes than I needed so I could cover up as much as possible. I consider myself a shy person in general, and I can't believe how soon that wore off. I no longer care. Most runners wave or smile at me like I'm one of them. The occasional thumbs up / high…

I agree with some of the folks above, but I am not one of those "clean eating" folks. I prefer shakes to bars for the protein to calorie ratio, though I agree eating a bar could possibly be more mentally satisfying. I use Syntrax protein powders mostly. They are around 23g for 100 calories. They also make an unflavored…

I have to wonder if you are really bored? Or if it is challenging and you are pushing the pace too much/too often and just wanting to stop and walk? Most of your runs should be at an easy pace. I can't comprehend finding running too boring, but maybe that's just me. I never get a "runner's high" while running. It's only…

Awesome! Only 10% of your weekly mileage should be run at a challenging pace. The rest should be "easy". It seems counterintuitive, but you will actually get faster this way over time, and it's a safe way to allow you to increase distance.

Strong post. I'm glad you suggested weights. He probably doesn't lift at all. I assume he just meditates in a field and BOOM MUSCLES. This thread needs more pics.

I didn't realize who the OP was. He has posted numerous threads about his walking 12-15 miles a day and concerns about not losing enough weight. Regardless of whether he really does or does not walk that many miles a day, he clearly suffers from some severe anxiety issues regarding weight loss. OP I suggest you seek out a…

Truth. I once stood next to a barbell while I was texting and checking in on Facebook at the gym after doing some stretching in the squat rack and now I look like The Hulk. I'm told I'll turn into a butterfly next though, so even though I'll lose my thumbs and be unemployable I'll at least be pretty.

Oh look a study where they controlled for calories: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.cmet.2015.07.021 I am not pro-low-fat. Just stating there is little study evidence that low-carb is strictly better for weight loss, when calories and medical issues are controlled.

I lose pretty slowly. Sometimes I go through periods where I am getting the miraculous 1 lb/week. Sometimes it will crawl to .3 lbs/week. And I am still obese with plenty to lose. For me it comes down to my food, not my workout. I am still eating too much to lose as much as I want. At the end of the day, I have to be…

I have a Jawbone UP3. It tracks steps, and I REALLY like it for sleep tracking. The app is also neat and has something called a "smart coach" that will look for trends in your behavior and make suggestions to improve sleep/activity etc. But I use a Garmin GPS watch (with chest strap) when I run. Most of the wrist based…

What's your activity level in MFP and how many steps are you getting in? If you told MFP you were sedentary, I think it doesn't start giving you EXTRA calories until you hit 3k steps. The numbers are higher for higher activity levels.

Yes.
