Today was finals for winter semester. I'm confident I passed everything but not so confident in my GPA. 3 weeks until I start summer classes. I don't want to do online classes because I know I won't put in the same amount of effort that I would if I had to commute and sit in class. It also wouldn't have the same power to…

You can estimate with the Navy calculation. http://www.calculator.net/body-fat-calculator.html

No carb?? Even pure carnivores eat carbs. Lions consuming their recently killed (obviously raw) prey will get some glycogen when they consume the muscles and liver. Of course, lions and nearly all other animals can synthesize their own vitamin C; humans cannot.

I weigh myself most days, but not always every day. I can see in the mirror when I'm bloated, numbers going up a little doesn't bother me too much.

I don't do well with too many snacks, I tend to eat significantly more when I do.

For a non-athlete, the recommended minimum is 0.8 grams per KILOGRAM of body weight. For someone who is 150 lbs, that is like 55 grams. You can eat more than the minimum but some of the goals people have are a bit insane. If you were a serious athlete, you may need up to 1.6 grams per kg. That takes you up to a lofty…

Moderate intensity can be summarized as: easy enough to be able to hold a conversation, hard enough to that you can't sing. Improvement is the adaptation to a stressor. There are several ways to improve; the body can improve oxygenation with more blood, store more glycogen (quick-access fuel) in the muscles, and increase…

If you were to drive an antique (no power steering, ect), that could be a workout.

The most bioavailable form of animal protein is eggs.

"Officially" the Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges are 45-65% of calories from carbohydrates, 20-35% from fat, and 10-35% from protein. Too far from that and I would be cautious about vitamin and mineral deficiencies. I'd almost guarantee you that someone down to 5% calories from carbs wouldn't be getting enough…

I try to get the ones that are vegetable-heavy but I don't avoid them otherwise.

I haven't finished it yet but "1-2-3 Magic" has been really helpful to me and my 6 year old so far. Amazon has a Kindle version for $2.99 but I borrowed my copy from the library. https://www.amazon.com/1-2-3-Magic-Discipline-Effective-Parenting/dp/149262988X/ref=dp_ob_title_bk

Every generation has believed themselves superior to the ones coming afterward. Heck, the "problem" was written about by Socrates. It is practically a trope as old as writing. Statistically, "kids these days" are doing much better than prior generations. Lower amounts of crime, fewer teenage pregnancies, higher high school…

Not proof of cause and effect but I would assume that people who know they are overweight and in poor health might choose diet soda more often. I have also heard it mentioned that the correlation was much less so when they controlled for things like diabetes and high blood pressure.

There is no such thing as spot reduction, just losing enough fat that it eventually comes off your belly too. Since the fat lays on top of muscle, even super strong Hulk abs are not going to be visible if there is too much padding on top. :( On the up side, the problem is so common. I've got it too...

Worst case, it does nothing but gives me good breath? :D

My father has hemochromatosis too. His ferritin levels were astronomically high (definitely above 300) and his liver is damaged. Does your doctor have some kind of online portal where you can get your actual results?

"I'd like to spend some time with you but I don't think 7 hours of mountain climbing would be safe or enjoyable for a little kid. Maybe we could set something up later when s/he can stay with someone else." ??

Do you like camping? I know there are still two months (give or take) until school ends but I would consider taking them camping this summer. Somewhere free (or mostly free) of light pollution. It might be quite a drive, depending on where you live, but breaking his routine for 7-10 days and spending all that time together…

There are (non-sentient) bivalves that can be 'farmed' vertically on ropes. Double bonus, the ecological impact of these filter feeders is actually an improvement! No lab meat for me.

Women are extremely unlikely to accidentally have enough muscle mass to skew BMI.

I've heard the lowest mortality rates are around BMI 20-24.

My belly does stick out further than my chest, haha. :D

If artificial sweeteners triggered insulin, how come swaths of diet soda drinkers aren't going into hypoglycemia when they drink it on an empty stomach?

Just barely still "overweight" according to BMI. I've "heard" around here that the less fat you have, the harder it is for the body to use it so your appetite would increase to try to make up the difference. Decreasing how much you aim to lose each week by 0.5 lb might help. I'm personally single digits from my goal and…

It took me about 3-6 months to gain 15 lbs (I didn't own a scale at the time) and 3 months to take almost all of it off. I have about 3 lbs left.

Even cutting 100 calories a day will do something. Slow progress but it is better to get to the finish line later than not get there at all. I've also found that talking to someone about it really helped with my stress levels. And music. Putting on headphones and listening to music by myself is my meditation.

The only reason I can imagine that it would help with weight loss is that it would make you throw it up, along with everything else in your stomach. Double whammy against your teeth and your esophagus.

Here (in Michigan) there is a spot on the renewal form for weight but it doesn't actually appear on the license. I actually stressed about it for a while, since I was 9 months pregnant when I had to renew this last time. It would be ridiculous to give them my current weight at the time, since it would be wrong before the…
