This is a really science-heavy Medium article on bivalves: https://medium.com/@TheAnimalist/on-the-consumption-of-bivalves-bdde8db6d4ba

It isn't my thing but Dr Joel Fuhrman is supportive of plant-based diets, based on eating actual plants (and not prepackaged foods). He wrote Eat to Live (also a cookbook) and The End of Dieting. If I were inclined for a moral reason, I think I would include bivalves (mussels, clams, oysters). They are great sources of…

Eh. Malnutrition during pregnancy may affect the health of future generations https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/05/140501123447.htm "Researchers found for pregnant mice that are malnourished that their offspring are at first growth restricted and have low birth weight but then go on to become obese and diabetic as…

You can't choose where you lose fat but you don't have to eat at a deficit at that height/weight, especially at finals time! Find your maintenance and build muscle. You can stay the same weight while losing body fat by building muscle. Many colleges have gyms and you may be able to find Strong Curves at a library.

Barely related at all but I'm on a 90+ day streak and eating at maintenance now. The best part is that it reminds me to eat breakfast, which is a big thing for me because I have to eat with my medication (Zoloft) or I'm worthless for most of the day. The act of opening the app and entering breakfast on MFP has kept me more…

I don't have pictures on any of my social media accounts. I deleted (not deactivated) Facebook in 2015 and have tried to keep my distance since then. Of course, I'm not adding friends on here either. I don't see a point. The only social media connections I maintain (solely on SnapChat) are people I know well; my immediate…

I use MFP + Garmin VivoSmart. Today, that has been 1610 + 247 for maintenance. I'm 15 calories shy of meeting that but I pampered myself with a grilled egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast. Mmmmm, cheese....

My favorite way to use my scale is with my Nutribullet. 1. Put the cup on the scale and hit TARE, the display shows "0". 2. Add my greens. I prefer spinach. Since the scale is ignoring the cup, I fill it until it says 85 grams (one serving). 3. Tare again, and the weight goes back to zero. 4. Add anything else I want…

My husband seriously thinks he's using 2 or 3 tablespoons when the coffee is almost white. He will go through a "60 serving" container of coffee creamer in 4 days, and that is without my help!

I set to sedentary, because I usually am, but have my VivoSmart HR synced so I earn extra calories if I am more than sedentary.

Not much to do with weight loss but I realized today how much progress I've made in college. I took two semesters at one school, under a different major, then started back up years later at another school with another major. I'm 4 total semesters in and I really only need a Phys Ed class and Composition (which didn't…

It is very difficult to get all of the nutrients necessary on fewer than 1200 calories. MyFitnessPal has a large database but only tracks certain things. I got to use a very fancy doctors office style program while taking my Nutrition class and I still had two pages of deficiencies eating 1700 calories because I was only…

You can change your goal whenever. Maybe start with 160 and reevaluate every 5 lbs.
-
MyFitnessPal will also give you fewer calories if you choose to lose weight faster. Unless you have a *long* way to go, 1/2 lb or 1 lb per week is usually sufficient. I've lost 12 lbs switching between 1/2 lb and maintenance. Being able to keep going with it (80+ days and counting!) is more important to me than losing the…

If it kills me, I'm going to die happy.

I drink different flavors when I drink diet so I'm not doing a straight comparison. Cherry Coke Zero is my favorite but I normally drink Pepsi if I'm drinking regular pop.

I was on it for ~5 months. I was pregnant for most of it so I was gaining weight but I didn't gain in excess and it didn't prevent me from losing it postpartum.

Family is weird. I think I'd get sick of it and bring her some funeral planning materials, attached to an article like this one: https://www.boston.com/culture/health/2014/07/09/obesity-cuts-life-expectancy-by-up-to-14-years-study-shows

Actually, not. An allergy is an immune response to a protein. Intolerances can cause you to poorly digest different things (like lactose) but don't actually involve the immune system. If you get bad gas, that is probably an intolerance. If you get hives, that is an allergy.

About 3 months. The first few pounds were the quickest and then it slowed down.

I have a hard time getting my steps in (full-time student, too much time sitting in class or standing still in lab) but I spent most of the day outdoors with my husband, building a new garden bed. He had to leave for work so I went up to Home Depot myself to get soil (five 2 cubic feet bags) and seeds. Lifted and moved and…

I had stronger legs than some guys my age in high school. Not really a big deal. It probably hurt the guy's ego but I wouldn't settle for a lower paying job to satisfy a guy's need to feel superior, why should I hold my physical strength back?

I go to school full time with a 6 year old and 2 year old. A little bit here and a little bit there. "Body By You" has bodyweight (no gym necessary) workouts for women. Something is better than nothing and working in 10 minutes a day (usually when they are in the bath or in bed) isn't impossibly hard. If you have time to…

Well, nipple stimulation or orgasm (external only with clean hands after membranes rupture) can work, but I'm not sure either were employed.

Money and calories, sushi.

I actually didn't really notice how much my husband gained. He's Army Reserves though so his weight gain started to be an obstacle to his career. At that point, it was sort of my business. Our family's health insurance was through Tricare. I try not to be a *kitten* about it but he still thinks I care more about his looks…

Oh yeah. Parts of my cycle make me really hungry so I just switch my goal to maintenance temporarily. Maybe I won't lose as quickly but I'm still in a long-term deficit and it keeps me from giving up and going overboard.

Me too. If we avoided that week, we'd likely just never have sex. My mother got pregnant after tubal ligation so DH got a vasectomy. I liked the idea of being able to check for sperm afterward, for assurance that the procedure was successful. We made sure to do the follow up to be sure that his count dropped to zero, most…

Everybody already knows. And they are both truck drivers so she is rarely home. They come home for her doctor's appointments (she already has a lot of health problems) and leave again.
-
She has taken at least two tests. They were negative but she "feels pregnant." :D They have a blood test scheduled for Tuesday.
