  • I just cancelled my BodyMedia when I realized that it too was nothing more than a glorified pedometer. Sure it has sensors for skin temperature and galvanic skin response but apparently they do not factor much into the caloric burn calculation. I came to this conclusion after doing a very strenuous workout on a stationary…
  • No shame in jumping off for a while. The important thing is that you're back. Just set reasonable goals and once you reach a goal, re-evaluate where you are and if you want to set a new goal. Remember, you didn't put the weight on in 6 weeks so don't expect to take it off in 6 weeks.
  • I have the bad habit of weighing every day but I only record my weight one day a week. I record my weight on Tuesday because it gives my body a little bit of time to shed any excess water that I may have picked up over the weekend from eating some of the wrong things.

  • I like my FitBit but really it is only a glorified pedometer. I only tracks what it thinks are step using an accelerometer so it can't track the full intensity of non-walking/running activities. I use a heart rate monitor as my calorie burn for my exercise.
  • Only 2 lbs!!!! I went to Florida for a week and gained 10. One day I had over 30,000 steps tracked on my FitBit. After talking to my wife's trainer, she asked how much water I drank. The more you move, the more water you have to drink in order to keep yourself properly hydrated. I know this sounds backwards but drinking…

  • Don't give up!!! If you are calculating your calorie burn and intake correctly you are definitely not eating enough. That may seem confusing but when you don't eat enough your body goes into a protective mode where it is trying to prevent starvation so it actually slows down the burn rate much like a bear in hibernation.…
  • 76% of all statistics are made up!!!! or was it 67%
  • My wife had weight loss surgery and she had hit a wall with losing weight. The doctor and nutritionist increased her calorie intake from 1200 to 1500 on days when she doesn't work out and told her to have at least 1000 net calories per day when she works out. The weight has started coming off again. Keep in mind that…
  • My thoughts exactly. I would never speak to my wife that way.
  • In general, I don't try to eat all of the calories back that MFP says I earned from exercise. If you really feel the need to eat some of those calories, I would only do about half of what you earned from exercise. You definitely want to eat some to keep your body from going into conservation mode but I think MFP's exercise…
