  • I eat every night before bed. 250ml skimmed milk. 30g Total Milk and Whey protein Mix, drink, sleep. Done! Never had a problem.
  • Charles Poliquin recommends them religiously, and he trains a big group of olympians and athletes. (I'm a Men's Fitness reader. He writes a column in there every month. Awesome guy and I would never hesitate in recommending any of his writing for good advice). Perhaps, but then you're comparing a standard plank to a…
  • Frankly, no I don't see the problem. There are alternatives for almost every exercise. Planks have alternatives, and in turn, ARE alternatives to other moves. You've convinced yourself you don't need planks. Why worry about it? Just do one of the alternatives you already do. You're asking for proof. Talk to a PT or Fitness…
  • If you want a strong core, then the basic plank is for you. Variations add different maneuvres whilst planking, or other poses to hold to put more strain on certain muscle groups. As for the washboard comment, yes low bodyfat comes into it, but it's not the only factor. I know plenty of people who have very low bodyfat,…
  • The "toning" part of it is more of an easy way to explain the tautness of the muscle there. If abs weren't taut at all, you wouldn't get the "washboard" effect that people desire. People can do planks to build muscle, but it's normally a variation. The basic plank is more for core work rather than building, but there are…
  • Planks are a proven workout. Sustaining a plank not only strengthens your abdominals, it also strengthens your back, shoulders, quadriceps and calf muscles. This is why it can be challenging to maintain good form, due to the multiple muscles being used at the same time and the body's ability to maintain rigidity through…
  • I'm afraid it's well past "fad" status. Most people who train hard have been doing this for a long, long time. Years, in fact. The results are there for all to see. A doctor won't recommend it because fasting doesn't tend to work for people who just want to lose weight. It's a compound thing. Fasting works alongside other…
  • No, the reporter did one fast of three consecutive days to prove something, then did the 5:2 (non-consecutive days) fast for 5 weeks, as he said himself that he struggled to stick to consecutive day fasting. But yes, if you're doing OK without it, it might not be worth your time. It does have benefits past losing weight…
  • I do 5:2 fasting. I have no problems managing it. I eat breakfast, then stick to water until the next morning. No problems, but then I'm coupling it with a reduced calorie diet for the rest of the week and I also train weights 3 times a week, circuit training twice a week and street dance twice a week. Kind of busy. I…
  • I do a 5:2 fasting system during the week (Thursday and Saturday being my fasting days), and no, the body doesn't go into starvation mode. You do learn a lot of things about the body by fasting though, for instance: - Your body stops sending hunger signals after an amount of time of no response. - Water is WAY more…
  • I don't count water.
  • Kate Upton. Not only is she absolutely drop-dead beautiful, but she's down to earth about everything and doesn't act like a diva like 99% of the celebrity females out there.
  • And yet if you do that, you're more likely to cause the site to close down because they don't make the revenue to keep this open for you.
  • Another vote here for MyProtein Impact Whey. Has helped me a lot.
  • Sounds like you're suffering from DOMS. If it's the first week or so of training, it is basically your body reacting to the change in lifestyle. You should find it is nowhere near as bad after a workout during the end of the 2nd week onwards.
  • MyProtein Cookies or Oats & Whey bars are my choice. The cookies taste like chocolate oranges! Mmmmm...
  • I eat MyProtein Peanut Butter (nothing in it except 100% peanut). 50g over 2 slices of whole grain brown bread (toasted). Delicious, and a great energy start to the day!
  • 100g of Instant Oats mixed into 125ml of semi-skimmed milk. However, I do intend from tomorrow to switch to skimmed milk. The only reason I used semi-skimmed was because the other half bought the wrong type, but I can't stand it anymore. :) Currently comes out at 525 calories, but should be 488 when on skimmed milk.
  • If she's that petty, then does she really deserve your company? She complains about being fat, then doesn't do anything about it. At least all of us here can say we're working on it or have done in the past. You're stronger than she is. Simple. Tell her to get over it. If she wants to be able to say the same as you, then…
  • If in doubt, pick the highest one. At least that way you're not underestimating. :)
  • Monday is going to be mine. I joined on a Monday, so I figured just to do it in one week increments from when I started using the site.
  • 100g instant oats (can get various flavours) 250ml skimmed milk Put in a shaker, mix together, drink. Done in about a minute and keeps me without hunger from 7am until 1pm, without fail.
  • Buongiorno Eleonora! :) Non sei l'unico italiano qui. I miei genitori sono italiani e provengono da Torino e Roma. Sono nato in Inghilterra, ma si parla italiano per tutto il tempo a casa, se avete bisogno di un amico si può parlare più facile con. Sorry for my semi-Italian, if it's off slightly. I know enough to hold a…

  • Hi Vanessa, I'm Chris. Listen, you can do this. You're better than the panicking. This is a long-term gain that you will benefit from. There's nothing to worry about. You'll have friends on here who you can talk to and chat with and share your problems with. You'd be surprised at the little gems you get on comments on your…
  • I joined recently as well. Wouldn't mind some friends in the UK. :) Please add me. I'm unsure about just adding people willy nilly, as I feel rude without asking :)
  • I used to be a big eater of Pizza Hut. Eating a large pizza to myself, I couldn't believe when I found out it was over 3,000 calories just for the pizza, never mind a soft drink with it! Actually makes me feel disgusted with myself now. Genuinely makes me think about everything I put in my mouth now, and if it's pizza,…
  • Easiest way is to type it into the food diary and see what it comes up as. Then just remove it once you've made notes. :)
  • Welcome to MFP :) Always happy to have new friends to add. :)
  • Studies. There's always studies. I know what I take for breakfast is good for me, so the calories for me not an issue. It also keeps me completely satisfied until my lunch at 1pm. And I have breakfast at 6am. No snacks, no nothing. And if that was the case, the things like IF and ADF wouldn't work, but clearly they do. :)
  • 482 for me. Every day. Without fail. :)
