A lot of good advice here re: nuts and such. I would add, you are only at 50% of your goal for fat for the day, which further supports this approach.

Awesome job!! Wish you all the best. Thanks for sharing.

Op is nothing close to ranting. He has laid out a thoughtful, fact based theory for respectful discussion, and with one notable exception, that's what he has gotten. (Note: I am only up to page two in posts, so it could, and probably will, get ugly later. lol).

Send a PM, and tell them my real name.

My goals are similar to yours, as are my expectations. My first month doing SL my bf% went up too. My weight was, kinda, meh (lost a little) and other measurements were down a little, about the same as the month before I started. so, basically I was a little discouraged also. My next 2 months weren't was I was expecting,…

TLDR. Brush your teeth twice a day.

I feel the same way. People hate asking me for weight loss advise. It's like the shortest conversation ever, "Eat Less", period, end of conversations. Come to think of it, I better work on my social skills. Congrats on your weight loss, and "getting" it.

Good luck Tom. You are in the right place.
-
How can you be so sure it is due to poor posture? Mine is poor also, and I was wondering about that.
-
So far the towel and recent de-load have lessened the problem. Gonna keep at it. Might switch if I can't get past this. Thanks!

Welcome back and good luck!!

Thanks. I will try to get something to you.

I agree. I should have added "for him, during this experiment" to the end of my sentence above. And, I think that is his point. If he can eat 3,500 surplus calories and it doesn't = 1 lb. of weight gained, then it can drive a conversation about why, and potentially lead to a better understanding of how the body processes…
-
I think that is the exact point he is trying to make.

Thanks for all the thoughtful answers. I appreciate it.

I agree. All of the missing elements above make the experiment less valuable and useful to ME/US. But as far as using the data to prove or disprove the simplistic statement that you hear all the time, on here and elsewhere, that: "a calorie is a calorie" for HIM, I think the data points provided are ample. It won't tell us…

You have to take that comment about calories "knowing" in context. Remember, it's twitter and limited to 140 characters. His point was that the body reacts differently to different types of calories based on which macro-nutrient they are delivered by. In the example, cutting carbs results in water weight loss. Therefore,…

Just had a rather long discussion on twitter with the person doing the experiment. His point seems to be that the calorie is not the best measure of energy as it applies to the human body and he wants to improve on it. I pointed out that by changing his macros from 30% carbs to 10%, he was skewing the data because he would…

Yep. Unfortunate too, because if done properly, it would be interesting and informative. But, we can't have that, everyone's got an agenda.
-
Very interesting. Thanks for posting!
-
Then, I don't think this applies to you.

I just google it, compare multiple sources, Come up with somewhat of a consensus, or a number I think is right, then reduce it by about 30% as I'd rather estimate a little low than high and go with that. Once I have a number I decide on, I keep a spreadsheet with them all on so I can reference it later.

Thanks for all the responses. In case your keeping score at home, here's the breakdown: Important: 2 Meh: 4 Irrelevant: 2 *kitten* out of luck: 1

OK. so I tried this, with no luck. I did some research, and I think I have a lack of lat muscle, so my "shelf" isn't thick enough and causes this problem. As the weight gets heavier, and the more I lift, the sorer the spot becomes. I tried wrapping a towel around the bar for a little cushion and that felt better. I am…

3 days a week, 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Heading down shortly for week-7 session-2. Will give it a shot. Thanks!

Yeah, I am finding a decent spot to put the bar, but I may have some 'rolling' going on while I am squatting. Gonna try to "lock in" my bar position and see how that goes. Thanks for the input. -Chuck
-
Not getting anything like that, just the pinching/pressure in that one spot. Gonna try to rectify it. If that doesn't work, might take a break to let it "heal up" and see how that goes. Thanks for the input. -Chuck

OK, Started week 7 last night.I was checking my form, and I do stick out my chest and pull my shoulder blades together. I paid very close attention, and think I found the "shelf" you are referring to (I think I had found it previously, as some times it feels better than others). I get the bar pretty far back. It is on my…

I would say that if you have fat in your thighs, and are eating at a deficit while doing squats, you could lose the fat. Of course it would be attributable to the "eating at a deficit" part more than the squats, but that would explain the perception that squats slim your thighs.
