It's a little harder to suggest specifics when your destination is unknown, but what has unfailing worked for me: Go to the local markets or grocery store. I've never been to a country yet in South America or Europe that didn't have places with plenty of options - some are almost identical to brands in the US…

Stephanie O'Dea's website www.ayearofslowcooking.com/ has a ton of good ideas for main dish, soups, and sides for both omnivores and vegetarians. Her daughter has celiac and so every recipe is either naturally gf or has gf substitutions if needed. You don't have to make everything in a crock pot either - a lot are easily…

Another vote for texture/volume. A little hummus with veggie and/or fruit sticks/slices --like carrots, cucumbers, raw turnip, jicama, apple slices, bell pepper - really any crunchy one works for me. I make several little packets at the beginning of the week so I just need to grab one.

Obviously I can't speak for the people OP has seen using it, but it's in frequent use at my house. I just used it yesterday to make chicken adobo. I'm also one of the people that it works for for heartburn. And I like it - I'll do a little splash, maybe a tablespoon or so, into a "pint" glass (I think they're about 12oz)…

I seldom drink calories, but beer is absolutely the exception. Once you've been at this awhile, you'll likely find that you really can have whatever you want -just not as much or as often as maybe you're used to. And grilled chicken/veggie fajitas are usually a pretty safe choice when eating Mexican food - and not boring!

Experimenting and tossing things together is very freeing and educational: What's the worst that can happen, after all? :) Oh, trust me, my family has several "hilarious" stories about just how badly things can go. I'm good with soup, but everything else needs a recipe. And sometimes even that doesn't help. One of the…

Thanks for the recipe and the non-recipe recipe!

@aokoye - Would you be willing to share that goulash recipe? @AnnPT77 - That dried mushroom/lentil sauce sounds really good - I'm hopeless without at a least an approx. recipe - can you share the amounts you used? I'll take the kale, but not the olives or the fish-eye pudding or, while we're here - the cottage cheese.

Doctors Dean Ornish and John McDougall (sp?) both have books with little to no fat recipes. I haven't checked but I would think that if you google you'll be able to find many of their fat-free recipes. I know they were a big thing for awhile back when. Good luck!

Planning. Who knew? I plan meals for the week, shop based on that plan (which also is saving me a lot of money I used to spend on impulse purchases) and then meal prep. My schedule is erratic, and having an actual food plan has made all the difference.

Welcome! I've found these posts to be very helpful: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10636388/free-customized-personal-weight-loss-eating-plan-not-spam-or-mlm/p1 https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1080242/a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants/p1

Another vote for crock pot - this is a great site for super easy, tasty, and mostly healthy options: ayearofslowcooking.com/

Yes to a lot of the above comments. Also, I've recently 'recommitted' to my goals after a few months of serious slacking. What I found helpful was the success board - seeing what has helped others was useful and it's motivating to see how others have succeeded. I also re-read the pinned threads on the various boards,…

A very healthy friend once told me that it was like tripping on the stairs. You grab the railing (recognize the problem) and then have a choice - stop yourself from falling (with the very next bite), or throw yourself the rest of the way down the stairs (wait until some point in the future to stop yourself). For me, I try…

As far as 'how do I eat something in the morning': I'm not sure OP ever responded to any of the suggestions to take a small cooler, but as someone who lives in a hot area (110 deg is normal; "cold" for us is low 60's), everyone i know uses one most of the year. I spend a lot of time commuting, and i may not know until the…
