This may sound odd....but have you been tested for ADHD or some similar diagnosis? (Perhaps OCD, as another poster mentioned). Your reaction to stimulants - as in it calms you down rather than speeds you up - suggests a brain chemistry reaction similar to those issues. My advice would be to get to a doctor or a mental…

Is it like (I'm paraphrasing a blog entry I found on the subject once) "standing between 2 bullet trains going at 200 mph in opposite directions"??? I am bi-polar and at the end of a mania - especially a dysphoric mania - that is what it is like. Impossible to slow down, to stop, to breathe, I'm thinking the same 17…

But seriously OP: Up your calories and up your exercise. There's no reason to do "some" damage now that you'll have to "correct" later.

I have days like this. I think, as time goes on, we are simply more aware of our bodies than we used to be. More self-conscience and paying more attention to the changes. This is bound to make for some emotional ups and downs.

I don't have any real advice. But I wanted to say that it's possible you and your husband have vastly differing interests. I don't mind my partner not being on fire for fitness, but I DO need them to be interested in nerdy stuff like science fiction, gaming, and have a love of cats. (I have four of them and the cats aren't…

I think it's wierd that the OP is, like, shocked that others associate the word "gay" with "homosexuals." Like he hasn't heard that before. Very wierd.

Pretty much. I'll never understand the logic that says "I can't stay at a low calorie count, so I'll just stay at a ZERO" calorie count. It's like - if you have a hard time sticking to 1,200 - why do you think ZERO is going to be any easier?

I don't have any useful medical information to offer, just sympathy. Your cat knows you love him/her. You were doing what you could with the information you had. The important thing is to get kitty the help.

Fair enough point. The original meaning of the N word is German. It simply means ploughman. So why are you not out there using that word??? Would it have anything to do with the negative connotation that our changing culture has placed on what was once a truly benign word?
-
Yes that's my definition of growth. Unless you want to go back to historically appropriate times and measures: In which case, blacks would still be slaves in America and I, as a woman, would not be allowed to vote. Change happens. Why are you so opposed to it?
-
Sorry, brah, but the word "brah" has yet to be incorporated into our culture as a whole. Come back in twenty years. Maybe you'll have had the time and energy to change the word "gay" by then, too. We'll both grow as people. Wouldn't that be beautiful?
-
The pressure of changing your use of ONE WORD is that strenuous for you? Really? One word? Do you even lift, brah?

What you want to hear: Water fasting is a great way to be healthy and I'm going to do it with you! What you're not going to hear: That.
-
So....you aren't going to change your words, even though it's been roughly 30 years since the word "gay" meant "happy" because you're mad that you can't call black people the "N" word???
-
Translation: Please tell me only what I want to hear, even though I posted this in a public forum where people with differing opinions have been known to be.
-
That's fine and well.....if you lived in 1934. Words have connotations. Language changes as culture changes. Lots of things were permissible (or not) in the days of yore that are not now. IF you use the word in it's original sense, you must at least admit and acquiesce to the fact that the word no longer means what it used…

Water fasting: Another way of saying "I'm going to starve myself. Whose with me?" Yeah. No thanks. You're not a plant. Eat food.

Also, no one is policing your thoughts. They are policing what's falling out of your mouth. Your thoughts are not public until they are verbalized. Once they are, they stop being thoughts and become vocalizations. Don't know if you realize it, but that's usually how people interact. So if you say something in the public…

Lol. People are so whiny. They're like "OMG you're asking me to change my language? DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD THAT IS FOR ME? Do you know how much work I have to put into replacing a single word? IT"S HARD BEING NOT A TOTAL JERK, HOW DARE YOU EXPECT ME TO PUT IN THE EFFORT?!" Stop whining that people are asking you not to be a…

Those cases made the cut because they were extreme. Most people will never be stabbed, fall off a balcony, or contract the flesh eating virus. Not so much an excuse for staying fat, but definitely sensationalist journalism.

That's a very disordered way to look at it. 1) Your body is not a statement TOWARDS anyone else. 2) Deprivation - be it physical or mental - is not a way to prove strength or virtue.

Truth, yo.

Mostly, I just want them to stop getting tiny hairs behind the bathroom faucet when they shave. THAT **** IS HARD TO SCOOP OUT!

Close to 3 grand a day. It was pretty nuts.

Saw a funny tumbler gif recently that addressed this. Paraphrased: "I'm not racist....BUT.....I really need to finish my homework." "I'm not homophobic....BUT....I'm hungry and want lunch." "WTF? Those statements make no sense!" "Dude, what more do you want? They are saying they're not those things!" Was very funny.

This is an awesome post. Thank YOU!

Depends on if they are saying it in a creepy way. Otherwise, I appreciate it from both genders.

My weight gain was in huge part medication related. There's a special frustration that comes with that - I was trying to take care of my mind (it was a drug for my mental health) and wound up putting my body through the ringer. The medication didn't work out anyways, so there was some resentment about it all in the end.…
