  • Welcome to MFP! I have been at this for about 3 months now and have dropped just over 20 lbs. It is slow, but steady. I have found that the community on MFP has been very helpful and supportive. I have been married to my husband for nearly 28 years and we are on this journey together. I will send you a friend request.…
  • My company had something similar, but it was completely optional. To participate, the employee and their spouse if they chose to participate needed to have a biometric screening done before 12/15/12, either onsite or at the doctor office with the info sent into the 3rd party. If we did this, then for 2013, we received a…

It really was eye-opening to see how many calories I used to eat in one meal alone!!! You can do this!!! It is so incredible you have…

  • Carrie, You have family and that is all you need. You have your new husband and that is more than many have. Make yourself YOUR priority for a little while. YOU are worth it. I will support you through this anyway I can. I don't have all the answers; I'm just a 40-something woman trying to get healthier for myself and my…
  • Hi Carrie, I am happy that you found MFP! You can do this, even though your exercise will be limited. I am also a cancer survivor - had uterine cancer about 5 years ago and also had a hysterectomy. I have been overweight for my entire adult life. It is hard to get it off, but it can be done! I was at our local gym the…
  • that is awesome! Keep up the good work!
  • I don't believe you can receive notification for items posted in the forum. You can receive notifications when friends post on your News Feed items (under My Home).
  • Welcome to MFP! You have made the first step in helping get healthier! How many calories are you eating? Are you going with the MFP suggested or have you adjusted for your age, weight, height and lifestyle? • I think she's saying she already lost 115 lbs and would like to lose another 70. :)
  • Hi and welcome to MFP and this support group. I have been on this new journey for 2 1/2 months and have dropped 21 lbs. More importantly, I have BG numbers have gotten so much more in control. Before losing any weight, my fasting BG was always over 200. Now, it is in the range of 70 - 120. I have greatly reduced the amount…

  • I have been losing weight consistently while being on insulin. Are you eating enough calories? Are you eating the right kinds of food? I was only eating 1270 calories and then figured out how many calories I should be eating based on my height/weight/age/lifestyle. I upped my calories to 1560 and am still losing weight. I…
  • Thanks for asking! Since losing 21 lbs and watching what I eat and actually exercising (joined a gym...crazy, I know), I have drastically decreased the amount of insulin I need to take. My fasting blood glucose was always well over 200 and lately, I am anywhere from 70 - 120. Still need to work on getting that more…
  • Congrats to you as well!!! Amazing accomplishment!

  • Hello to all the newbies. First off, welcome to MFP and to the Type 2 Diabetes Support Group!!! You have made a huge step in 1) finding and using MFP 2) posting to the forums. You will find so many supportive people in this forum. I am 47 years old and have been diabetic since right before my 40th birthday. I started…
  • Too many "ah-ha" moments!!! I got tired of my clothes not fitting and feeling horrible. I hated not being able to find any clothes that fit or looked good (nothing looks good on you when you are 80 lbs overweight). I hated seeing pictures of myself at Christmas. I hated being winded going up a flight of stairs. I hated…
  • My official weigh-ins are on Thursday morning...first thing before doing anything except going to the bathroom. I do step on the scale during the week, but do not log the weight gain/loss. Whatever you do, try to be consistent on the day and time you weigh in.
  • Wow - you are doing a fantastic job! 24 lbs in 8 weeks averages out to 3 lbs per week. Any more and it wouldn't be healthy. You only list the exercise. What are you eating? How many calories are you eating daily? Are you eating back your exercise calories?
  • There are so many encouraging people on here that just want the best for you. I can't really add anything new, but just keep doing it. Everyday is a new day. When you wake up in the morning, set a goal (small goals) about moving more or adding a new healthy food into your diet. You have already have had success. You don't…
  • I don't have to lose as much as you, but I have enough to lose. With hard work, honesty about the food you eat, daily tracking of food and exercise, you will achieve your goals. Surround yourself with people and friends (both in MFP and outside world) that will support you and offer you encouragement and insight. You can…
  • With hard work and dedication to tracking your food and exercise, you should easily reach your goals. Slow and steady is the name of the game...
  • I'm glad you finally introduced yourself. I have dropped 20 lbs since 1/3 and a lot of the reason I continue is because of my friends on MFP. Good for you, training for a 1/2 marathon. :) Continue to be serious about this journey and you will continue to see the results!
  • Now mind you, I am no expert. Just a person trying to lose weight and have seen a lot on the forums about this.
  • From everything I read, if you go with what MFP sets you at, then you should eat back at least half of your calories from exercise. If you go with the TDEE, then you would not eat back the exercise calories. At 1200 calories, you definitely need to eat those calories back...you never want to go below 1200 Net calories.
  • You need to figure out how many calories your body needs to maintain your life. You can do this by either following the steps on "roadmap" (search for this in the MFP forums) or go to this website: http://www.fitwatch.com/qkcalc/caloriedeficitcalculator.php. Once you know what you need to eat, then you will eat a deficit…
  • Hi! Glad you have joined MFP. You will find a lot of information on the forums and people will have so many things that they will suggest to help you lose the weight. The first thing you need to do is figure out how many calories you should be eating. If you have not done so already, then either follow the steps by…
  • First of all, don't give up. You are doing great! The scale is only one measure of your weight loss. Are your clothes fitting differently? Do you have more energy? These are all just as important as the scale. I know you did the "Roadmap", but you might want to also check out this website:…
  • Regarding food - your best best is to actually weigh and measure your food. Eye-balling it is okay in a pinch or if you are eating out, but for at home, weigh and measure everything. This will help you with getting exact proprotions. You can pick up a food scale at most retailers (walmart, target, etc) and any measuring…
  • I like this "We do not need to wait till the next morning to make a GOOD choice, a better one."!!! That is so true! I could take it a step further...why wait until Monday to start a new "diet" or exercise routine? Why wait until January 1 to start changing my life? The morning or Monday or 1/1 are not magically days/dates.…
