I drink a protein shake most every day. Just 1 scoop of whey protein and 8 oz of milk. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant, so he uses soy milk instead of regular. I almost never get enough protein because I don't like fish, and I cannot eat enough chicken to make up for it. I could totally live without ever eating chicken…

The company I used to work for modified this to say "The customer may not always be right, but they are always the customer." Basically: you know they're wrong, but be nice anyway. :)

^ This. I work for a bank as well, but I work in the HQ. No way could I deal with people and their money. I used to work in hotels and wow.... it's like kids being away from their parents. Or like the Amish on Rumspringer. Every. Night.

I grew up in Indiana (still live in the state, but not in the same town) and I went to a Methodist church with my mother and grandmother. I think my siblings went as well when I was very young, but I have no memory of that. I continued going until I was about 12, mainly because we always went out for breakfast and shopping…

You're not doing anything wrong. Fruit has a lot of sugar. If you intend to eat fruit or drink milk (and you should, in my opinion) then you can't worry about the sugar. I always looked at mine as no more than 30g of ADDED sugar a day, which includes any incidental sugar in pre-packaged food or condiments, not just actual…

The amount of calories you are eating needs to be an appropriate reflection of the weight you are currently, your activity level, and your deficit goals. It can be counter-productive to decrease your calorie intake too rapidly or too drastically. However, I would say that the cause of your headache is probably caffeine…

Odd. I was thinking about posting today. I have a consultation tomorrow where I am going to have Xrays to get my bottom two wisdom teeth extracted as they are impacted. Not fun. Let me know how it goes!

I would suggest anything by Augusten Burroughs (mostly memoirs) or Sarah Vowell (mostly history, but written in a very accessible, semi-personal way). Or "Life's That Way" by Jim Beaver. He is a character actor who lost his wife to cancer. AMAZING book. Helped me get through the death of someone close to me.

Indeed.

Congratulations! I don't think I've ever reached a goal in less time than I set. Good on you!

Look at my diary. It's in there. I did change the order, though, and make that my late night snack (if applicable).

Looking back, I actually ate 3 times before lunch today. Protein shake right after workout at 6:30am. Toast with peanut butter and a glass of milk at about 8:30 and then a yogurt about 10-10:30 am.

Common thought is that when you eat breakfast, you are "kickstarting" your metabolism for the day. Thus, it burns off your breakfast faster and you are hungry again. If you look at my journal, you will notice breakfast and 2nd breakfast listed as meals. This is an homage to hobbit meals, but is also because freaking…

Depends on the workout. For lifting weights at home, nothing beats a movie with JCVD or Stallone: you'll feel like you're in your own montage. But seriously, for jogging here are some songs in my playlist: Feel Good, Inc - Gorrilaz Little Less Conversation - Elvis Here [In Your Arms] - Hellogoodbye PJ & Rooster - OutKast…

Lighting Designer for theatre. :-) I do this as volunteer work now, but still have to answer phones and sort mail at a bank headquarters to pay the bills. Someday....

I'm an American. My family is comprised of all athiests and agnositics, but we still celebrate Christmas. My parents have been divorced for years, but neither of them remarried, so we still celebrate as a family. We get together Christmas morning (getting later and later in the day, but always before or at noon). We open…

Add me if you like. I'm only 28, but had sort of a similar situation. I lost someone about this time last year (last September). It turned my life upside down. I was very depressed, actually got divorced because of it, and put back on 1/2 the weight I had lost over the previous year and a half (I drank a lot which didn't…

This is what I usually suggest to new people just starting to track their calories: Journal one day of the things you would eat before (e.g. enter everything in you would typically eat on a binge day). Look at the total calories of THAT. Now do you feel bad about eating all 1200 calories? Or even 1500, which would be…

I hurt my back while exercising and was completely out of commission for about 5 weeks (was seeing a chiropractor 3x a week). During this time, I didn't want to stop losing weight, so I started zig-zagging calories. This is essentially changing the number of calories you eat day to day. Any more than 3 days in a row and…

Good mention. I forget that other people don't do this, so I never think to say it. It helps ENORMOUSLY because then you know if you stick to the plan, you're ok, and you don't end up with no calories left, just eating a banana for dinner so as not to go over.

You should, just for kicks, log a day of what you WOULD have eaten before you joined MFP. Just a typical day of all the sutff (all of it: even condiments can be calorie-laden). Then compare that day to your "Bad days" this week. I am guessing you will find even though you were not perfect, you are doing better than you…

Personally, as I work two jobs and one of which has no set schedule, I find it's best for me to just wake up an hour earlier and do my workout then. That way, if I end up having to go straight from one job to another or wouldn't have time to work out AND eat between, I am not forced to make that choice (I will choose eat…

I bought a POlar FT7 before I started P90X. It was about $80 and it was my best fitness investment ever. It calculates your calories burned, which is why I chose it.

Last year, I had lost about 40 pounds. I was only 20 away from my overall goal. Then a friend died, I got divorced, had to move back in with my mom, etc. I had not weighed myself since I moved out of my husband's house in September of 2011. Until last week. I had gained 20 pounds back (I knew I had gone back up two pant…

If you're ready for it: P90X. It's probably the most popular.

I wouldn't add them just because you see other people adding them. If you don't have the need for them, there is no reason to and it would just be an unneeded expense. If you are not doing any heavy exercise (especially weight training) you probably don't need protein powder (unless you get NO protein from your diet). I…

That's how I do it. I bought a Polar FT7 right before I started. I love it I didn't add every single workout to the list, but I use "Circuit training" for any weight day (chest & back, Shoulders & arms, etc) and just adjust the calories for what I actually burned that day. I did add Kenpo and Plyo, as those are just way…

As far as sugar that you track, it really is only supposed to be about added sugars. You shouldn't worry about the sugar in milk or in any whole fruit (fruit in a can with syrup or fruit juice does count). I had the same thought when I started...
