  • Coming back from a season off due to injury. Was planning to run a half at the end of May, but thanks to a crappy winter now am planning to run/walk that race. Am following Hal Higon's training schedule for the distances, but am doing C210K for the running training on the way out, then just walking the rest of the distance…
  • I feel your pain - I too have a bad case of OAS and am severely allergic to several trees and grasses such that I never can eat a small handful of fruits/vegetables (essentially all melons, cucmbers, pumpkin, and squash). In the case of the fruits/vegs that flare up my OAS, I've learned over the years what seasons I can…
  • I made my first green smoothie this morning - handfull of kale, 2 handsfull of baby spinach, 1 banana, 1/2 cup strawberries, 1/2 cup of blueberries, 1/3 cup of blackberries, 1/3 cup of raspberries, 1 cup water. Looking foward to trying some of the other combinations posted in this thread.
  • First, get rid of those 100 calorie snack packs - they are usually fulled with junk and won't help with real hunger. I used to rely on those prepackaged snacks and found that I always was hungry. It's great to have 100 calorie snacks, but make them yourself - apple slices with peanut butter or cheese, greek yogurt with…
  • To address this particular comment - I put the quotes there because I was including ordering food for delivery in the category of eating out.
  • Mea culpa - I walked right into all the dirty minds with my title. I didn't think that kind of eating had a caloric factor.
  • I make my own dressings. When I want a creamy dressing, I use greek yogurt. and mix that with herbs, garlic, salt, pepper and a bit of lemon juice. When I want a vinagrette, I use 1 part vinegar to 2 parts oil, add some splenda or honey, chopped garlic, chopped shallots, lemon juice and thyme or oregano.
  • I am having the same issue. February has been a tough month for me - lots of travel (business and pleasure) means that I get out of my exercise and eating routine. Unfortunately, March is looking even worse for travel.
  • Since my hubby is allergic to shellfish, whenever I get an evening alone at home for dinner I sautee shrimp, grape tomatoes, spinach and garlic in some olive oil, white wine and lemon juice - then serve that over whole wheat pasta or quinoa with some fresh basil and oregano.
  • This thread has convinced me to change my ways. Time to dust off that scale and actually use it.
  • New mapper here - after 2+ years failing when trying to live on 1200 calories or trying to eat my exercise calories back (and usually overestimating those calories) - I'm giving this a try. Am only in my first week of increased daily calories, but have to say that I am a much happier and energetic person than I was on…
  • Salsa Greek yogurt with herbs and garlic. Lemon/lime juice.
  • Here is the site I use: http://www.sushiencyclopedia.com/sushi_nutrition_facts.html
  • I just keep repeating "Thank you, but I've really had enough - and it all was wonderful."
  • I always add finely diced bell peppers (all colors), zucchini and spinach to my sauce.
  • Thanks to a partial hysterectomy, I slam shifted into menopause 6 years ago. Since then. I've gained 30 pounds - all of it around my middle. I've lost (and gained) about 20 of that back many, many times over the past few years and the last place I would lose inches was my waist. I long for the day that I actually have a…
  • Hi All, Another newbie here. I'm 45 and live in Toronto - no kids, just 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 bird, a bunch of fish and a husband. I need to lose about 90 pounds to get back to fighting weight. I gained 60 of those when I moved from the US to Canada and ate my loneliness away. I've tried everything imaginable to lose weight,…
  • Over the years, I've had my fair share of people oinking, making fat comments, etc. My father can't seem to have a conversation with me without mentioning my weight (and he's 50 pounds overweight himself). When I was learning to run, there were several times that kids along the boardwalk would make nasty comments about me…
  • For me, the biggest problem is getting out the door. Once I get started, what slows me down/stops me from increasing my distance as much as I'd like is joint pain - my knees and hips really don't enjoy long runs.
  • My end of summer goal is to be down another 10 pounds. My mid-October goal is to run my first 1/2 marathon (I've already walked one).
  • If is the bubbles you'll miss (and as a reformed Diet Coke addict I know that was a big part of my problem), get thee a Soda Stream - it carbonates plain old tap water. I add a splash of fruit juice to mine when I want a bit of flavor.
  • "Low Fat" salad dressings - the sodium and sugar content knocked me for a loop. I now make all my own!
  • I bought myself a Soda Stream - it uses regular water and carbonates it, so I can get the fizziness I love from diet soda without the artificial sweeteners and I don't have the expense/environmental waste of buying bottles of sparkling water. I drink huge glasses of that with just a splash of fruit juice - and I use all…
  • I tried it for the first time last night - had me dripping in sweat in no time and the whole section full of plank moves nearly did me in - definitely a good one to keep in the rotation.
  • I started walking within days, started out slow and short distances then built up. I wasn't cleared for any weight training or more aggressive exercise for 4 weeks.
  • Congrats on kicking it to the curb. I'm 12 days diet coke (and artificial sweetener) free. The headache lasted 5 days - the craving is still with me.
  • I have oral allergy syndrome, so can't eat fresh/raw fruit or vegetables. For the longest time, all of my fruits came from Dole fruit cups (packed in water/juice, not syrup) and things like applesauce. All vegetables had to be cooked. Now I find that if I steam things a bit - or even just microwave them for 20-30 seconds -…
  • I track no matter which plan I am following - seeing those calories add up keeps me focused.
  • Sorry all - I've been MIA thanks to a combination of business travel and now what is either bronchitis or pneumonia.
  • I'm training for my first half-marathon - the Goodlife in Toronto on May 6 - am following the Running Room program. I'm up here in Canada, where we thankfully are having a really mild winter so outdoor running hasn't been too awful. I tried to train last year, but winter and injuries got the better of me.
