Yeah, leaving the house is the hard part. Once I'm doing it, or I'm on my way, I'm totally up for it. Not sure why the stumbling block over just deciding to go do it.

On the Fitbit, you set both a walking stride and a running stride length. Since I did this, my distance is very accurate, whether I walk or run or both.

My swim today was frustrating because I bought swimming fins to use in the pool and was told I couldn't use them. Even more frustrating, it specifically states on the timetable that this session is 'fin friendly' :-(

For me, the key is to experiment until you find what works for you. I don't pay much attention to experts in bike shops, they tend to be a bit 'one-twoo-way'ish. The best thing is simply to adjust your bike until it feels comfortable for you. It doesn't matter if you adjust it and it makes it worse, you can just adjust it…

Hi tzumom - how did it go on your first day?

You don't pay a trainer in order to deal with his emotional issues. Either he's supporting and inspiring you or he's gone, simple as.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone :-)

Oh my god lol. Yep, you win... lose... thing!

I was 130kg not long ago. People do NOT point and laugh. Obviously, like any bigger person, you will occasionally get kids or teenagers snickering but I think that's a fact of life wherever you go. Worry about getting fit, but don't spend time pointlessly worrying about scaremongering, it gets you nowhere.

Lol, I got a few laughs reading this today. Sorry guys! I sympathise muchly but at the moment I am having the best time swimming in South Africa - the whole pool is divided into lanes for individual use, it is half empty or completely empty all the time. My only issue is that it's HOT! Feels like a warm bath, and it's very…

I did not :-( Got to the gym and discovered I had left my swim stuff at home. Feel all disappointed!

Well, I finally got up to 20kg for my lifts, woo! Took a little longer than most people, but I feel comfortable with where I'm at. Also, as regards the lifting up heels when squatting; the instructor gave me a good tip today. He put weights just under my heels so that I'm still pressing down through my heels when I lift.…

Yeah, we were doing barbell rows in the gym the other day and the instructor came over and made my husband do these rows where you're basically pulling them up and down your legs. The next day, his back was killing. We felt like the instructors gave us bad advice. I trust the Stronglifts videos more than I trust some…

Every drop of water on the planet has been through 7 other bodies, apparently. If we're drinking recycled pee, I'm not going to worry about swimming in it ;-)

Go once, see how it feels, then decide whether you want to stay at home or go out to the gym. A lot of the time we build these things up in our mind until they seem bigger than they actually are.

I use special anti-blister socks. They have two layers so the socks rub against each other and not against your skin.

Cycling, swimming and walking are all good starters. try to do 30 minutes a day, every day, whilst eating healthily. After a week, try to add on 5 minutes a day.

op, this website tends to be very anti-gastric operatons, but ultimately it's your life, body and choice. My friend had a gastric sleeve and she says it was the best decision of her life. she says she wakes up happy every day of her life. She has maintained a healthy weight for many years now and she wears clothes she…

Good luck with your fresh start, I hope it goes well. I'm training at a gym in South Africa at the moment that has a fantastic weights section and the instructors are very keen so hopefully I will see some more improvements. Everything is at 17.5kg at the moment and building up slowly.
-
Yes I did; I swam yesterday and today. Yesterday was a mile but today my friends wanted to leave early so I only managed half a mile. Still good to get in the water though :-)
-
Lol that's hilarious. I bet she gave him hell :-)

I have a ladies specific saddle with an indent in the centre, with a hole on it. This allows me to rest my weight on the sit bones, and keeps the soft tissue cool. I'd never go back to an androgynous one again.

It depends how much weight she has to lose. An obese person can gain muscle mass and lose fat at the same time.

You know, there's a great 5x5 group for ladies. It might help to ask this question there also? http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/4601-stronglifts-5x5-for-women

Yoga pretty much cured my hip bursitis. We use a yoga programme on the wii.
-
Yeah I always go up on my toes too. I think it might be tight hamstrings, or excess body weight. I'm hoping it will sort itself out as I lose weight and get fitter.
-
Which lap counter did you get? I had a look at them but they all seemed really expensive. Reckon I could get away with a knitting row counter? Lol.
-
The way I see it - it'd cost me the same amount for new goggles, might as well at least get some that I see the clock with!

Apparently vinegar does the trick.

Ouch! Lol. Glad I'm not the only one who felt the squats :-)
