Not what I expected. Disappointment abounds.

I've dropped a whole shoe size.

Might look into HIIT (high intensity interval training) which is supposed to pack a powerful workout into a short time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-intensity_interval_training

Best thing I've heard all day--awesome!

Congrats! This is a challenge I face often as well. Furthermore, there are occasional department birthday parties that I get pulled into and of course there is cake. I work at a school and get free soup and salad lunch every day, but there are often times a table full of leftovers from some after-school even the night…

Early workouts are not for everyone--I know they do NOT work for me. Also, not sure if you do this or not already, but having a small snack before and after workout has done wonders for my energy level. In the past, I would tire quickly during my workouts, and feel totally drained for hours afterward. But since starting…

For food, always try new things--you'll be amazed at what you might find. With exercise, I find that I am 95% more committed when I go to the gym with a goal in mind. Today, it will be to run for 38 minutes at 5mph. I know what I'm going to do before I even get there. Heck, I knew this is the work out I would do today when…

Cut back, but don't necessarily cut it out unless you want to. This is a lifestyle change, but only if it is reasonable and manageable to you. If you deprive yourself completely of things you want, it will only be a matter of time before you cave and have some. It will feel like 'cheating' since it was 'off-limits' to…

That "satisfied", "full", and "stuffed" are actually 3 distinctly different states.

Patience! The scale is but one tool to measure your success--do NOT let it be the ONLY tool! Losing inches is great! The weight will follow. 3 days is nothing in the scheme of the scale--weekly or every two weeks is a better measure of progress. Your weight can fluctuate many times during the day and week.

There are a couple of at least--one for treadmill (time-based) and one for distance. I used a podcast similar to what you use, with music and motivation, that was made for use on a treadmill. As such, I finished the program not quite able to do a full 5K distance (running), but able to run for 30 minutes. This week, I'll…

Good luck! I feel your pain; I have a 2-year-old that periodically changes out the contents of the 5-disc DVD changer. Never know what I'm going to find in there, or where the movies there were in there ended up.

Forgot to post, not that it mattered much. Of course a weigh in this morning would have looked much better, but next week will rock. 4/2: SW - 223.6 lbs Week 1 - 220.6 lbs Week 2 - 220.4 lbs Week 3 - xxx lbs Week 4 - xxx lbs Total lost - 3.2 lbs

I completed C25K the week before last. I walk at 3.4 and run at 5.0 with a 1% incline. I started the program at 3.2 walk / 4.5 run and no incline. That being said, a couple of weeks ago I got a HRM with footpod, and the speed it shows me going is much different than what the treadmill says. I need to check the footpod with…

Everyone has pretty much said it all, but I'll sum it all up. You decrease calories to lose weight. You exercise to improve health. You can lose without exercise. If you exercise, you need to account for it in your diet by eating more calories.

I have the same shoes. The advice that was given to me by a runner I work with was, "try on several, then try on several more. If your salesperson isn't irritated, you probably haven't tried on enough. Let your feet tell you which shoes to get."

I've set my "goal" weight at the top-end of the healthy BMI range for my stats. That being said, I may tweak it more or less as I approach it. My goal is to be healthy and look good. If that happens at 175 lbs or 150 lbs does not really matter to me.

Jockey has sports boxer-briefs with added support.

Got my answer today... http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/5ZK8mm/www.usatoday.com/money/industries/food/2011-04-12-healthy-food-restaurants-applebees.htm Guess that goes to show anyone has a price, and there is no such thing as an unbiased report from anyplace that is for profit.

Can't speak to the water weight, but as for the fat, there is no exercise or method to target any specific area. Exercises will work the muscles in certain areas, but that will not affect fat in the same places. You cannot control how/where your body burns fat, only take steps to reduce it overall.

I know exactly what you mean. I got all kinds of dirty looks and snide remarks when I tried Curves.
-
Agreed! I had never heard of it before, but bought my first last week. Great on cereal and awesome in my coffee!
-
Just as good! It took me 12 weeks to complete due to some repeats, but I finished on April 8th. Last week, i just continued to do some long runs and up'ed my time a little bit each day. My first 5k is May 21st.

Sadly, no. It really is a situation of 'you get what you pay for.' The cheaper ones usually do not have a chest strap--which is necessary for accurate heart monitoring. The more pricey the device, the more bells and whistles it will have. Being able to input and/or estimate your VO2Max is probably the most important factor…

I have not denied myself anything, but rather keep them in moderation and 'budget' for them. I am also finding new things to love, and so the trade offs are much less severe. Don't be afraid to try new things. I have also discovered my tastes have changed. Many sweets are simply taste too rich to me now, and I just don't…

Best advice: "You should check out this website I've been using called MyFitnessPal..." (Thanks, mceleste11!) Worst advice: "You should try the ______ diet! It worked for me; ___ years ago, I lost ___ pounds. Though due to ________ I have gained it back." I have heard almost the exact same bad advice from four or five…

Check out the Couch to 5K program. In 12 weeks time, I've gone to huffing and puffing and feeling like I'm dying running 60 seconds to being able to run 3 miles. Congrats on your new found limits!

You can manually input your goals. If you feel it is coming off too fast, add in a few more calories to your goal and give it a week or two to see how it goes. Won't hurt anything to play around with the numbers a bit, and everyone is different so it may just be that the 'average' values MFP use are not applicable to you.…

It is amazing what you can get through if you are dedicated. On my road to being somewhat of a runner, I've found that I can run though being tried. I can run through being sick. Heck, I can run through a bit of pain. "I'm too tired" is the easy way out. Put yourself to the test, and if you find once your working out that…

The Internet is global, and occasionally we have to step outside of our comfort zones and do a bit of research. I didn't have a clue what a "stone" was either before using MFP, so I looked it up. I am also baffled by food measured in grams, not because I cannot do a conversion, but rather I just have no concept of what x…
