High intensity bursts on the treadmill, cross trainer or bike for one to two minutes followed by 30-45 seconds at a lower intensity and then high intensity again etc for about 20-25 mins in total. Depends on the pain but best to take the extra days rest ... listen to your body. Ice on the ankle will help and stretching too. All the best.

Treadmill the most at the moment ... closely followed second by the Cross Trainer.

Try and walk on the treadmill with an incline and at a pace that pushes you and gets you out of breath. Try not to hold on. As you get fitter steadily increase your speed. I find a walk for 30 minutes with a 5 min cooldown at 6.5 kmph at an incline of 5 is good.
