  • I've been wondering about the same thing! I'm curious to read advice from experienced runners. I have a 15K on November 4 and I'm planning to do a half the first week of May. My tentative plan is to cut my running down to 3 days a week and spend more time in the gym doing strength training from November until February, and…
  • Awesome, I have some friends doing the Perfect 10. Great finisher's medal! I feel the same about having races two weeks in a row, though! I hadn't heard about the half turkey trot. I'm doing a 6 mile run Thanksgiving morning. (This will mean much less guilt about my overindulgence.) Good luck at the Perfect 10!
  • Thanks for sharing! That makes sense! I'm still going to keep referring to the foam roller as The Best Invention Ever, but I will definitely continue the strength training.

  • Yes, the MFPers really know what they are talking about! (Well, at least the ones who responded to my cry for help on this problem!) I followed their advice and have not had a problem since! The foam roller has done wonders, and I added some strengthening exercises that I found on Runner's World. I also followed the…
  • I'm also running the Hot Chocolate 15K and I'm contemplating the other two!
  • I also use Runkeeper and find it pretty reliable. You may also want to sign up for free on earndit.com. You earn points for your runs that you track through Runkeeper and can cash them in for gift cards and discounts on fitness-related items.

  • I'd love to join if you have room for one more! I plan to hit 90 miles this month.
  • Going to have to try this one!
  • I've been relatively pain free for a couple weeks now. I think that the exercises from Runner's World and the yoga from the article posted here helped a lot! I've been doing them twice a week and using the foam roller after my longer runs. I'm only up to 8 miles though, so we'll see how it goes when it builds it more!
  • Pop and Hip Hop Power Cardio Workout and Zumba Fitness Radio are my faves to listen to when I run.
  • Thanks for the advice, everyone! I completed my race yesterday with no hip pain before, during, or after.... so following the advice seems to be helping! My race went well! Now I have to get ready for my next one- a 15K in November.
  • I have a few friends who are following a very specific diet. On our last girls' night out, they drank tequila with club soda, lots of lime, and splenda. It tasted surprisingly good!
  • I am also doing the Hot Chocolate 15K. Are you following the Hal Higdon 15K plan? I'm following it pretty closely. I'm in week 4 right now. I am doing a local 7 mile race on Saturday, so it will through off the program a bit, but I'm looking forward to seeing if my race time improves. I feel like the speedwork is really…
  • I've never had any Achilles issues, but I have shin splints occasionally. When I first started regularly working out, I had major pain. I didn't do anything special to strengthen them, but it went away eventually. You may want to look up some stretches specifically for shins. If you have a lot of pain, you may also want to…
  • Try the buffalo chicken lettuce wraps on skinnytaste.com. They are amazing! I want to try the chicken taco chili a couple of you have mentioned!
  • Thanks! I am wearing shoes that I was fitted for at a New Balance store. I do think that I'm due for a new pair though. I love New Balance, but I think I'm going to go to Fleet Feet next time and see if there are some other options out there that may be better for me. It is good to hear that it is something correctable! I…
  • I've been enjoying the app too. I'm so glad that you mentioned the sale! I was too cheap to pay $8, but I think it is the most entertaining $3 I ever spent! I don't have a cemetary nearby, but I may have to try that. One question... how do you add in your playlist? I couldn't figure it out, so I've been playing my pandora…
  • I have a race on Saturday, and then not another one until early November, so I have some time to take care of it (if I can just make it through this week). Did you see a doctor? Hope you make it through your training injury-free! Thanks for the advice!
  • Oh no! I hope you are better soon! I have fortunately not experienced any pain while I'm running... but the next day it kicks in. I ran a few miles Saturday and I felt good, so I did a long run yesterday. It went well, but this morning I was hurting! It went away by about noon. I'm going to go to the doctor too just to be…
  • Thank you so much! I will check these out!
  • Thanks! There is a Bikram yoga studio near me. I have gone there in the past... maybe it is time to check that out again! I ran a few miles this morning and I feel fine. I usually only use my foam roller if I'm sore, but I am going to use it after every run and see if that helps! Thanks for the advice!
  • Thank you for all of your advice! Other than needing new, clean shoes and feeling a little more sore than usual today, it went very well! I set a personal goal for myself to finish in 1:06 (about a minute more per mile than my regular pace), but ending up finishing in 57:47. I'm not sure how I managed to pull that off, but…
  • Twizzlers. And any combination of chocolate and peanut butter.
  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I feel completely out of my element! Even though I know that those beefy guys aren't really looking at me and thinking, "What is she DOING? That's not right!", I feel completely self-conscious. I met with a trainer only once. I felt great using the weights and machines while she was right…
  • You can probably tell from my profile picture that I am a big fan! I started a class in April. I would recommend trying a variety of instructors to see what you like! I have tried several different classes over the past few months. I have loved some and hated others! I'm not sure how much of my weight loss or toning can be…

  • My friends thought I was strange because I had a hard time listening to music when I first started running. I was trying to run to the beat of the music and wearing myself out trying to go so fast! Now I don't know how I ever ran without music! When I finished C25K, I started using Pandora. My favorite channels are Hip Hop…
