Garmin recommendations
Hello! I have been using apps to track my mileage since I started running. I have never used a heart rate monitor. Now that I'm getting ready to start marathon training, I think it is time to upgrade my gear! Any suggestions? I want GPS and a HRM. Other than that, I don't really care too much about bells and whistles.

Vitamin D deficiency?
Hello, I have been gluten free for 6 months now. I have not been officially diagnosed with Celiacs, but feel much better since changing my diet. I just found out that I have a vitamin D deficiency. The doctor prescribed a supplement for me to take for the next 3 months, and then a follow up visit. The nurse told me that it…

Suggestions needed for spring half marathon training
Hi! I have my first half marathon next Saturday, January 12. My next one is March 6, and I have another on April 14. I decided to do the first one on a bit of a whim, so I trained using the HH intermediate plan for 7 weeks. (I had already been running the mileage, so it wasn't really a big deal to jump to later weeks of…

TOM changes after going gluten free?
Ladies, Did any of you notice any changes to TOM when you gave up gluten? I eliminated it 8 weeks ago. I also run long distances. I'm not sure what to attribute the changes to! Thanks!

Piriformis Syndrome- How long did you have to rest?
I went to the doctor last week to get my pain checked out, and as I suspected, it is my piriformis. (The pain started the last week of October. I rested for the week so I could run a 15K on November 4. The pain set back in that night and has been bothering me off and on ever since.) I went a few days with no pain, so I ran…

Modified Food Starch???
Hi, This is only Week 6 Gluten Free for me. I thought that I read that modified food starch is an ingredient to avoid. I'm confused, though, because I ate some Progresso soup yesterday that was specifically labeled GF but one of the ingredients is modified food starch. I have an iphone app that lists ingredients (green if…

Post Race Questions from a Long Distance Rookie
Hello! I completed my first 15K today. It went pretty well considering that I've been resting since Tuesday due to major piriformis pain! I have never been this sore right after a race before. Is there any "rule" about how long I should rest? Also, I plan to run my first half in May. I want to start Hal Higdon's plan the…

Hip/ IT band pain
Hello! I have recently started running longer distances. I completed a 10K in mid-August. Since then I have been following the Hal Higdon intermediate 15K plan. I started getting stiffness in my left hip months ago, when I consistently ran 3-5 miles at a time. Now that I have been adding on more mileage, the stiffness has…

Hal Higdon program "substitutions"
I'm just about half way through the Hal Higdon intermediate 15K plan. I am a creature of habit, so I really do like the structure, but I miss some of my classes at the gym (Zumba, Tae Bo, and Pilates). I don't have the energy to do these in addition to the running plan. Do you think it would make much difference to…

What was I thinking?! Trail Runners- I need advice!
Until a few days ago, I had never run on any surface other than a smooth bike trail or track. I have only in the past week or so gotten my running mileage up to 10K. But, for some crazy reason, I registered for a 10K trail run on August 18th. A friend and I checked out the course a couple times so far. I felt pretty…

Need advice before first 5K
I'm running my first 5K next Thursday night. I could use some advice about how much/ what kind of workouts to do leading up to it. I don't want to overdo it during the week and not perform well. My typical week consists of 1-2 Zumba classes, running 5K+ 1-3 times a week, 1 yoga class, and a couple long walks. I'd like to…

Bridge to 10K
I just started B210K today. Anyone else out there currently doing it? I finished C25K on January 1st. Since then, I've been running between 30 and 45 minutes about 4 days a week. I'm struggling with increasing my speed and distance. I always say that I'm going to do more, and then I never do! So, it seems a little like…

Losing motivation...
This week I hit 100 consecutive log ins on MFP. I've been consistently under my calorie and fitness goals every week... until the last two weeks. I feel like I hit a wall and I'm slowly sliding back into my old habits. I've still worked out 5-6 times per week, but I have had to force myself. Up until now, I was waking up…

Getting impatient...
How long did it take you to see results (pounds and/or inches) once you began running? I haven't seen any changes yet, and I'm starting to get frustrated!

Logging C25K on MFP
I completed Week 4 Day 1 this morning. I just logged my running and walking times individually. (I walk about 0.6 miles to and from the track also.) It totaled about 330 calories burned. Does that sound accurate?
