  • Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences and giving much needed tips! I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I feel a lot more prepared after reading your responses. I have 9 days to get ready! YIKES! I'm confident about the distance, so I'll hit the trail a couple more times before race day to try to get a handle…
  • I feel the same. I'm 5'5 and my goal is 135. That is a happy medium for me- I've weighed less, but I was not the least bit fit or healthy. I would not mind weighing a little more than that as long as I am toned. Any, yes, I want to still have curves!
  • Pizza! Also, I like to mix it with mayo to put on sandwiches.
  • I'm in the same boat! I can see toning taking place in other areas, but my lower abs are being very stubborn! I just read an article in Women's Health that recommended doing planks instead of crunches to strengthen the entire core. There must be some truth to that- I went to a class a couple weeks ago where we did tons of…
  • Hooray for single-digits! : ) Congrats!
  • Funny you should ask that... I just referred to myself as a runner "out loud" for the first time just this week. I completed C25K on January 1st. I've been running consistently since then, and I did 3 5Ks this summer. When I added up my July mileage and saw that I ran over 80 miles, I said, "OK, I'm a runner now. This is…
  • You are making great progress! Way to go!
  • Don't let yourself get discouraged! I think it is normal to get to a point in C25K when you struggle and have to repeat. I think for me it was when I got to the 18 minutes of running. I just could NOT do it without stopping. I repeated that one 8 times before I finally did it. Once I pushed through that wall, I got better.…
  • Hi, I finished C25K on January 1. Throughout the winter, I ran 3-5 times a week and made sure that I ran at least 5K every time. Once I felt like I had that down and needed a new challenge, I downloaded the Bridge to 10K app and started on that in the spring. In the time that I got comfortable running 5K, I never…
  • Feel free to add me, too. I just started running in November. I plan to do a 10K in September, and possibly a half next May.
  • For me, it really depends on what I'm doing. I'm a pretty independent person and tend to be a loner, so I started out on my own. Recently, I've acquired friends with similar goals, so working out has become more of a social thing for me than it ever has been. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about it. I like meeting friends…
  • I love the Newman's Own Sesame Ginger, but my favorite Newman's Own is the Light Lime Vinegarette. It is so good, and makes a great chicken marinade too. I'm going to have to look for the papaya poppy seed!
  • Stella Artois, Blue Moon, and my summer favorite- Summer Shandy.
  • If it's not too late, I'd also like to join the challenge! I'm on vacation all month, so I have no excuse to not hit my goal! I'm going to challenge myself to run 100 miles in July.
  • Thanks! It went well. I finished in 29:00. I made some typical rookie mistakes- like getting caught up with the crowd and not pacing myself well. Thanks to this thread, I was very aware of the photographers! Fortunately, I can't find where the pictures are posted so I can't see how ridiculous I look in motion! I'm running…
  • That was going to be my suggestion too! You can do more with the "Pro" app, but I use the free one and I've been happy with it. My favorite feature is the "countdown". I don't like to include my warm-up walk with my running time, so it's nice to be able to program it to tell me when to start running.
  • I often wonder that myself! I found a "Zumba Calories Burned" calculator online, but I'm not so sure that it is very accurate. I want to get a heart rate monitor to see if what I've been logging (about 500 an hour) is correct. The calorie burns I see always seem very high. I'm sure it varies a lot from class to class.
  • Thank you again for your advice! This has been quite a week for me! I reached my goal weight AND ran my first 5K! It went well. My goal was to be sub 30, and I finished up in 29:05. In the first mile, I got caught up with the crowd and pushed way too hard. I finished my first mile in about 8 minutes, which has NEVER…
  • I am also 5'5". I just hit my goal weight today (YAAAAAAY!). I changed my goals on MFP from "lose a pound a week" to "maintain current weight" just now. My calories jumped from 1420 to 1750. Is that reasonable? (I intend to continue working out every day.)
  • I really don't see it, but I've had a few people in the past couple years say Cameron Diaz. I think it is probably more my goofy laugh than my looks! When X-Files was big, people called me Scully. I can kind of see that one.
  • Thanks so much for all your advice! Great suggestions! You brought up some things that I didn't even think about! I'll keep you posted on how it goes!
  • I also run at a pretty slow pace... but I just feel good that I'm out there doing it! My speed improved without me consciously trying to get faster. My goal is to stay under 10 minutes a mile, but some days are better than others! I'm doing my first 5K on Thursday, and my goal is to stay sub-30. My athletic friends smirk a…
  • I'm having a similar issue. I'm also pear-shaped. I'm thinking about going to "maintenance weight" even though I'm still a few pounds away from my original goal. I feel like I'm losing my curves with the weight loss, and I don't like it! I don't necessarily want my thighs to get smaller, just more toned. I want to lower my…
  • Hang in there! It sounds like you are off to a good start! I agree with other posters- repeat if you need to! It took me from Halloween to New Year's to complete. I've tried running in the past and could never do it, but C25K worked. There were a couple days that I repeated 5 times because it was so difficult. Then, at…
  • Good for you!!!! Awesome progress in such a short time! What's your secret? This is on my list of things to do this summer! I just realized that lots of my clothes are too big and sloppy now! I'm soooo looking forward to shopping for some new ones.
  • I am not sure about the calories burned, but I think the distance is a little off. (I've heard that the MFP calorie burns tend to be a little high, so I usually do use the calories from my running app instead.) I switched to endomondo to track my distance. The GPS has been more reliable than mapmyfitness.
  • It depends on the day for me! I have only been running for about 7 months. I try to do at least one "long" run a week (about an hour). Otherwise, I try to always do at least 5K, so about 30 minutes. I did the Couch to 5K plan to get started. The gradual build-up of time worked well for me.
  • I agree! I started walking nearly every day about one year ago. I didn't change my diet a whole lot until months later, but I still lost 10 pounds in the first few months. When I stopped losing, I stepped it up to running and tracking my calories. Since January, I have lost 10 more pounds. If I wouldn't have started slow…
  • Hello! My goal for May is 100 miles. I am also participating in a group challenge here on MFP, so I logged a lot of miles these past couple weeks! Everyone is doing a great job!
  • When I first started working out about a year ago, I bought a couple of her DVDs. One of my co-workers did one of her 5-mile workouts every day after work. She noticeably lost pounds and inches in just a few months, so I thought I'd give it a try. I prefer to be outdoors, but her DVDs are a good rainy day alternative. My…
