  • My ultimate goal is to be healthy and feel healthy. Along the same lines, being healthier does mean that I will be slimmer (considering I am overweight now and that is not healthy for me), but it is not my main focus in the least. Ultimately, most of my focus is on purposeful exercise, feeding my body high quality…
  • Well, down 1.3 lbs for the week, which I'm happy about. My calories for the past few days have been in check, even though I haven't posted. Unfortunately I've been sick, so my workouts took a hit, and I didn't do anything all weekend. I'm hoping I'll feel better by tomorrow so that I can start working out again, and I…
  • Read the ingredients labels on the bread you buy too. Most breads that either advertise whole grain or wheat, actually aren't either. The first ingredient should be whole grain flour, whole wheat flour, etc. Avoid breads that have enriched, bleached, or refined flour. Here's a pretty good post about how to choose bread,…
  • I weight myself once a week, and I take full tape measurements once every 3-4 weeks.
  • This is really good advice and something that worked well for me personally too. Nice post!
  • I'm joining! Definitely count me in. :)
  • EA Active 2 and Zumba would be my recommendations. Just Dance & Just Dance 2 are also great fun if you love to dance. :) You can see some previews on youtube to see if they're anything you'd be interested in.
  • It can be hard, and this is something that I had to overcome with my boyfriend as well. Although the sweetheart that he is, he has been really mindful of me, but it has been on his own terms and something he wanted to do to help support me. And although my home life is more supportive of my change, I find that pretty much…
  • Elmox, congratulations on becoming an aunt, how wonderful! :)
  • I use a food scale to measure at home - it's an invaluable tool for accurately reporting food intakes. I also try to estimate my portion size before I actually measure it; I find that doing this has helped increase my knowledge of what actual portion sizes should look like, and has helped to increase my accuracy when I am…
  • You look fantastic. :)
  • EA Active 2, Just Dance, and Just Dance 2 are among my favorites for working out on the Wii. I use free weights instead of the resistance band for EA Active 2 though. The Biggest Loser game wasn't really my favorite, and I didn't enjoy the game design, but if it's something you like and works for you - then that's perfect.…
  • At first, you will have to put in every ingredient, but after that you can make it into one of 'your meals.' This site has an amazing feature that allows you to combine a bunch of items into a meal, so that the next time you have to enter that dish - it'll be one simple click. :) Alternatively, you could also just add up…
  • You look great! Amazing job, keep it up! :)
  • Check-in today: Calories: 1,271 - This is low for me and I almost always eat my calories (1550). I normally don't like to eat that far under, but I ate when I was hungry today and it was a pretty mellow day overall since it was my day off. I got up late today too (yay for sleeping in!), so that kind of pushed all my meals…
  • It's pretty common for me to fluctuate anywhere from 2-3lbs during that time, but I never stress about it. It happens every time, and I know it's just water. So long as I'm eating within my calorie range and working out, I know I didn't mysteriously put on 3lbs of fat. Realistically, I would've had to have eaten an extra…
  • Jess, that's such good news! I'm so glad she's feeling better.
  • Just Dance and Just Dance 2 are both amazing. I have them both and love to play them every week - so much fun, and it's a great way to get others involved too. I love dancing in general, so I can dance for an hour or so and it's just a great workout. The shuffle feature is nice on JD2 so you can keep going without any…
  • Jess - I'm so sorry to hear about your niece. That was heartbreaking to read in your first post, but I was so happy to read in your very next post that she was bouncing around. At least she's in good spirits, despite having to go through this. I am still holding good thoughts for her, so please keep us updated. :) Ann -…
  • Hello all! I'm new to the group and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Rachel and I'm currently a student that's working on living a much healthier lifestyle. I started working on my health in March 2010 at 285lbs and I'm now 209lbs. It's been a long journey, and I've done most of it on my own, so it'd be simply…
  • Oh congratulations, how wonderful! I'm planning to do my first 5K's this spring and summer, and have already signed up for a few around the Chicago area. I agree with the other posters who suggested a 5K as a terrific next goal. Keep up the good work!
  • Dinner tends to be my largest meal as well, somewhere around 500-600 calories (when my other meals tend to average 300-400). It has worked well for me, and I also used to struggle with nighttime hunger, so I find that having a larger dinner at night works well for me and satisfies my hunger. It has not seemed to hinder any…
  • That's a success if I ever heard one! Your confidence is inspiring. :)
  • Way to go! What a fantastic gift, and Happy Birthday as well!
  • I'd recommend taking them. Even if you don't post them on here and just use them for your own personal motivation - it's very helpful. I took mine at the beginning of this year, and to be honest, it was hard to look at them at first, but now that I can compare them with recent pictures and it's extremely motivating for me…
  • Similar circumstances for me as well since going vegan. I've also noticed that my skin looks remarkable now too, although it's hard to tell how much of that is just from my overall lifestyle being a lot healthier than it was in years past. Either way, I like not having to wear makeup.

  • I know how it feels, and it's such a great feeling. Congratulations on your success - I'm so happy for you!
  • Not sure if this would work out well for you, but maybe you could cook some of your favorite lunches or dinners and freeze them. Then you'll have quick, healthy, and nutritional meals that are easy to bake and eat. At least that way you wouldn't have to spend tons of your vacation time cooking, and you'd still know exactly…
  • I love your post and it's so very true. I'm so glad you're feeling better, and everything that you've said about patience and treating your body well is so true and vital for our happiness - I've been much happier since taking care of myself too. Thank you for the inspiring post. :)
