Those 3 people are horribly and terribly wrong. It's a food, just like any other source. Drinking them doesn't magically cause you to gain weight above the caloric value of the shake.

More muscle only imparts a small amount of higher metabolism in a resting state - remember, even fat is metabolically active. However, the increase in muscle mass will allow more potential energy to be expended. So at rest, more muscle doesn't really mean higher metabolism. But at work, it certainly does.
