Easier to quit when I looked at the cost to the planet compared to drinking water. I get less exercise now, though, since I don't need to empty the blue box as often.

I just like competing with myself to do more stairs. But I've noticed that I'm not nearly as breathless doing two or three flights at a time as I used to be. Seriously, I used to pause outside the staff room door to recover my breath because I didn't want my colleagues to hear me breathing heavily when I entered the room.…

And your friend who vouched for the guy is still with the husband who slept with the guy's wife? Not someone whose judgement I would trust....

I may get exasperated by it, but it's like having an illness for which I would always have to take medication. Just part of what I personally have to do to live well.

bumping...perfect text to read when tempted by a trigger food

I have one I love--it's brand name is Taylor. Very inexpensive at Wal-(low in affluence at the expense of the rest of the world) Mart. It works in either ounces or grams and I can't imagine doing this without it.

Logging is a promise I keep to myself to make my own health my priority. As someone earlier pointed out, knowledge is power--and I have found a number of foods that I used to eat mindlessly really are NOT worth the calories.

I quit cold turkey, but my habit was with caffeine free diet coke, so I had no issues around caffeine withdrawal--those headaches are fierce! (And I will NEVER give up my Kicking Horse Kick *kitten* coffee.) But my decision was for financial and environmental reasons as well as nutritional--why pay for a beverage in…

Know that you are worth it and make the choices that will get you to where you want to be. I'm 54--wish I'd started when I was your age!

I will never give up my Kicking Horse Kick *kitten* coffee. Freshly ground beans popped into the percolator...all is well with the world.

Only want it when I make the mistake of eating potato chips--nothing but carbonation will cut through that greasy mouth feeling.....

In English, "mellifluous", in French, "boulverse" (there's an accent on the last e that I don't know how to make :))

It's been 18 years since I quit, but I do remember coughing up of phlegm for a couple of weeks...just assumed it was my lungs saying thanks and good riddance. But never mess around with your health--see a doctor if you are concerned. Another thing.... I quit in early spring, around the time I cleaned and packed away my…

Want to sit in an airplane seat without asking for a seat belt extension? So make the right choice, girl! Do not buy potato chips. Do not even walk down that aisle in the grocery store. It's your trigger and you know it, so don't load the gun.

Sometimes at social events--like a tea, baby shower, that sort of 'party', I select someone slender to shadow--I watch to see which foods they select and the amount, then 'follow suit' a few minutes later so it's not obvious.

You have probably already looked at this, but are you certain your calorie count is accurate--it can be easy to over/under estimate amounts of food if you aren't using a scale or being consistent with measuring cups, etc. Also, you want to make certain that the entries you are using in the data base are correct--there are…

I'm 53 and it's -24C here this morning. I've been faithfully logging food here since August (buying a scale and using it for everything was the best advice I ever got on this site) and now that I've established better eating habits, I am stepping up the exercise with a fitbit. Feel free to add me.

Hello again everyone! I've been off the message boards since before Christmas, but been faithfully logging my food. Looking forward to catching up with the life tapestry here... You may remember that when I joined it was because my DH and I weighed the same and were going to have a contest to see who got to pick our next…

When I get change and the cashier puts the bills in my hand first...the coins slide.... Check out signs that say a certain number of items or 'less'...'less' applies to an amount, not a number. Employees who talk to each other instead of the customers, especially in the check out line--or continue to talk to the previous…

It's been a tough week...my father in law died early Monday morning. We've had a good celebration of his life over the past week, the church was packed on Friday, and we've had good family time, but this morning I stood in my kitchen and looked at the mess (dishwasher went kaput and we bought a new one but somehow missed…

Thanks for the inspiration! You look great!

Just say no, or say yes, log it, and deal. The choice is always your own. Habits are hard to break, but you are the one in control.

Hi everyone! Heading to the city for a couple of days after school with my DH...was going to buy new jeans but shopped my closet first and am happily wearing an old pair I forgot I had. He's eager to try a steak house he heard of...I'm concerned because I think it's ridiculous that the smallest cut of meat is 12 oz. and…

The first piece of advice I got on MFP was to buy a scale to weigh my food and it is the best thing I've done! No point in logging if I'm not accurate--and the days of making excuses and lying to myself are over.
