More vegetables. Once I refocused on making sure I got my daily 5+ servings of those, things started falling back into place. I weigh and measure everything, because I do not trust my perception. I do my best to 'eat the rainbow', and we're not talking skittles :) One little change at a time....I started by simply cutting…

If you have a freezer, then consider buying frozen fruits. I can buy a bag of frozen raspberries for five dollars and not worry about spoilage. They also maintain their nutritional value. I do look at the 'expense' of food differently, tho--to me, it's about nutritional value per penny--so ramen noodles would be incredibly…

Thank you so much for sharing your story! You've really inspired me with your mature attitude and common sense approach to overall health.

In Canada it's doughnut, but language is dynamic...donut is probably considered correct too!

Two to three tablespoons of trail mix is calorie dense--find a satisfying substitute that is equally nutritious. And weigh it, so you know for sure! Enjoy! edit to add: 2 tablespoons is about 28 grams or one ounce, which, when I looked up a trail mix with choc chips (don't know your brand), is about 136 calories.

You want to make sure that the snacks are not choking hazards. Things people have listed are healthy choices, but you might want to consider juices in the car, but make rest stops for munching.

Brava for committing to yourself! Add me if you like. I started last August 20th determined to become the healthiest version of myself that I could, which included dumping 120 excess pounds. I have about 98 pounds to go, feeling good all the way!

As a full time working mom of two, I have to plan. Then I work the plan--my family is completely on board as they see the results and that I'm keeping promises to myself. Sometimes I say no, sometimes we compromise doing our best to make it win-win. I just keep remembering that if I were on a plane in an emergency, I would…

One choice at a time, one decision at a time...pick small behaviours and stick with it no matter what. For me, it was cutting cream out of my coffee and eating four to five servings of vegetables every day before allowing myself anything else. I bought a kitchen scale and logged everything, no matter what. That was August…

Way to commit to your self! :flowerforyou: Just want to mention that when you restock your fridge, your new eating choices may require you to change your way of grocery shopping. When I switched to fresh fruits and veggies and relied less on processed foods, I found that my previous habit of shopping once a week didn't…

I'm looking forward to hearing answers to this question too! The last time I took my hip measurement, I had to decide whether or not to lift my lower belly pouch above the tape measure ...this time, it wasn't really an issue. I've only lost a few pounds since my last measurement, but my shape has really shifted. People…

This isn't just about your upcoming holiday, it's about the rest of your life and how you are going to live it. May you always be blessed with opportunities for exquisite food! If I were you, I would enjoy small portions of anything worth the calories that fit your own healthy and happy time. Enjoy! Savour the sights and…

For me, dietary changes have made the biggest difference for my weight loss. But as a person who used an exhausting day of work as an excuse to ignore my own health needs, I have found that using a Fitbit has made a huge difference in how I move through the day. I like the corny badges for mini goals and I like competing…

Can't just use the food label on foods that don't come with labels, like most vegetables, fruits, grains, beans, cuts of meat, etc. I love having the scale which takes all the 'guesstimation' out of how much spinach to pack into a one cup measurer, for example. If I'm going to take the time to log, I might as well be as…

Mine was inexpensive at Wal(lowinaffluenza)-mart. It has a Tare function which I sometimes have used and the brand name is Taylor. I think i've only replaced the battery once since last August when I purchased it. I measure in grams, but it can do grams or ounces.

Just finished my 26th year teaching high school drama...won't be starting until the end of August, but already wondering how I'm going to fit it all in. I landed the role of Cora in Calendar Girls in our local theatre group which will hit the boards in February 2014 and I am also committed to directing/producing our high…
