Agreed! I've always believed this. Sedentary means you're lying in bed all day doing next to nothing. Most people on here are at LEAST lightly active, even if they have a desk job. So many people make this mistake and wind up eating too few calories.

That makes more sense. Last time I measured, my hips were somewhere around 40 inches. Was the shouting necessary, though?

Thanks for posting this, it really put things in perspective for me. :) Black, 5'3, 158-160 lbs, size 12 jeans and PROUD. :
-
Actually, it's not. I was the OP on the post that THIS OP is talking about. I'm a size 12 and a 35 inch waist, thank you very much.

Fine, I'll rephrase. I don't want to do what you do to get the body that you have. It's not a priority for me. I prefer to keep the same body shape I have now, just a slimmer version of it. What I said was in no way an insult toward you or meant to "irritate" you.

Not true. If you're challenging yourself with advanced poses, you will most certainly be sweating and sore. I lost a lot of weight doing yoga and loved it from the first class I took. It's fine if you don't, but no need to minimize its benefits and mislead noobs. :)
-
I've heard similar things, but science seems to say the opposite. Every article I've read has extolled the benefits of yoga, from its abilities to lower stress to the muscle definition it can give you because you're supporting your own body weight in certain poses. I've lost weight doing yoga and love it. I think some…

See, when I got to 150 the last time I lost weight, I was nowhere near a size 4, at least in the stores I was shopping in. I looked and felt good, but I was still around a size 10/12. It must be how I'm built...I have a larger bum and wide hips, and it doesn't change no matter how much weight I lose.
-
I agree! I probably should have put this in the OP, but I'm about 5'3 and 158-160 lbs. (it's been fluctuating, not sure where exactly I fall right now.) Everyone has told me how great I look and how I really don't need to lose much more. The lowest weight I've ever been is 150, and while technically still "overweight" I…

If weight is just genetic, why do so many people on this site lose weight by changing their habits? You can be genetically predisposed to be more overweight than someone else, but it doesn't mean you have no chance of correcting it.

I can't eat a whole pizza -- maybe 3-4 slices if I'm very hungry. And for me there's no such thing as a cheat day. I'm doing this for life, and that means eating a little bit of everything at all times, while remaining within my goals for the day.
-
Definitely bacon, dairy and red meat. I can cut down, but they will NEVER be completely out of my diet.
-
Dark chocolate. But really dark, not the Hershey's kind that's still loaded with sugar. Your grocery store should have some that are a little bit darker -- meaning less milk and sugar. They're not too expensive and they give you a bigger, thicker bar. :)

The "official" weigh-in is every week, those are the numbers I track on here. But sometimes in the middle of the week, I'll weigh early to make sure I'm heading in the right direction and get an idea of what to expect at the end of the week. So technically, I weigh every 3 days or so.
-
None of this is true. You don't have to categorize foods as good or bad and eliminate half of what you usually eat. If you're within your calorie limit and getting in more healthy food than you were before you started, you're doing fine. To the OP, I used to have the same problem as you, and I solved it mostly through…

I literally eat everything. Healthy, unhealthy....I don't deprive myself. But I do try to make the fruits and vegetables outweigh the unhealthier things I eat. Some days I do really well, some days I do horribly. But I've found that no matter WHAT I eat, if I stay within my calorie goal (1650), I lose weight consistently…
-
It depends on who you talk to. The die hard clean eaters will tell you it's processed crap and that it's horrible for you. Personally, I think it's fine as long as you can find one without a ridiculous amount of sugar in it. I'm not a huge oatmeal fan, but when I do eat it, it's always instant. :)
-
I would suggest lean protein, like grilled chicken or lean beef, and lots of fruits and vegetables if your friend is trying to eat healthier. But for weight loss, it's not so much a question of what you eat, but more a question of how much. She needs to figure out a healthy calorie goal for herself and consistently eat at…

How DO you do that exactly? I lost some weight before coming here and never could figure out how to put that on my ticker...
-
Agreed! :)

Personally, I feel like weight loss surgery should only be considered when you're finding it difficult/impossible to lose weight any other way. If you're able to eat at a healthy deficit and exercise, and that works for you, I think it's much better, and far less risky, to do that. So many things can go wrong in a…

I'm with most of the other posters. You want to at least hit 1200 and not go under that, and possibly up your calories. You also don't have very much to lose, so if you want to do this the healthy way, the weight is going to have to come off slow -- and by slow I mean .5 - 1lb. a week, if that. 4 days is definitely not…
-
I've always tried to get within 50 calories under OR over. If I do that, I'm perfectly satisfied with my day and consider myself on target. If I get full and I'm 100 calories under, I don't stress it because I could easily have underestimated the calories in something I ate earlier in the day. So I try to get as close as…

You're probably not going to get anyone on here who has tried this diet, since the whole point of the site is to count calories and NOT get into fad diets (and no matter what you say, this IS a fad diet). I doubt anyone on here had done this, common sense tells you it's a bad idea.
-
I'm riding YOUR *kitten*? You constantly defend 1200 calorie eaters on EVERY thread where it might come up, even when no one is attacking you. And you jumped on me on one of my threads. I suspect that as long as we both are on opposing sides of the issue, we're doomed to politely butt heads, since we're both active posters.
-
I'm with everyone else, eat more. You're right about the possibility of gaining back what you lost, but that would have happened eventually anyway. You're not eating a healthy amount of calories that you would be able to maintain over a long period of time. The minute you upped your calories, out of hunger, or because your…
-
She wasn't talking to you specifically, though. Why are you taking that as a personal attack when it isn't meant to be one?
-
This!!! I don't know why the 1200 crowd is so aggressive and defensive anytime anyone gives a different opinion. It's so silly...
-
Yep, that happens to a lot of people. I'm ravenously hungry if I try to eat less than 1300 a day. 1600 seems to be my "magic number" and keeps me satisfied. :)

I used to tell people, but now I prefer to keep it to myself. In my experience, when I try to tell people that I'm losing weight, especially at work, they're a little too eager to get involved. Some of them turn into the food police and start commenting on everything I do or don't eat. Some ask for updates each week on…
