I know this thread is from over a month ago, but I'm hoping to pick it back up hehe. I was diagnosed with migraines when I was 11 but don't remember NOT having them in childhood. I'm 23 now and have found a number of coping mechanisms, including food and drink avoidance. I have Maxalt tabs for the average ones (works 40%…

I bought the chocolate version of better'n peanut butter and absolutely love it. I like to eat it after a workout on wheat toast with banana slices! It doesn't taste like the melted chocolate chips in full fat peanut butter that I used to nosh on from time to time...but it hits the spot and it's so much healthier. If the…

I just wanted to add a link about the AHA updating its recommendation The American Heart Association basically recommends 24 to 36 grams: http://www.examiner.com/x-6753-Philadelphia-Nutrition-Examiner~y2009m8d25-American-Heart-Association-issues-new-sugar-guidelines

Anything that "shakes" and is advertised toward women is absolutely hilarious to me. I'd stick to regular weights and cardio. For toning, it'll be better to use a higher weight and less reps, but don't strain yourself. I use 8-15 lb. dumbells, depending on the lifts. Don't get sucked in to the gimmick hehe

I'm so happy to find this thread :-) I've been vegetarian for 4 years roughly but originally went vegan for 3 months. I felt absolutely amazing but when I started college I started eating eggs and dairy. I started eating fish (1-2 times a week max) a few months ago but want to scale that back to maybe once a month. I need…

I agree that we vary as individuals in our nutrition requirements. For me, my migraine symptoms (the stomach issues) significantly decreased when I gave up animal products 4 years ago. I stayed vegan for 3 months (gave up various foods, drinks, etc. over the years and always for 3 months or so at a time to see if they…

You probably already had the happy hour haha, but a vodka soda is vodka with club soda. It's generally ordered as "a vodka soda" or more commonly "vodka soda with a splash of cran" But yeah, around the house from time to time, I have a vodka with flavored seltzer water, wild cherry is my favorite!

If you're eating all of your calories and staying at healthy amounts of fat, sugar, carbs, etc. then it should be somewhat accurate. It is for me, at least. If I am under by 300 calories one day from working out a lot and not eating all the calories back, then no-that won't be accurate because every day will NOT be like…

Oofda, I'd say neither haha. Both of them are going to be high in sugar. A healthy, high calorie snack: nuts. I keep snack baggies of trail mix (peanut, cashews, almonds, raisins, dark chocolate chips) in my purse, workout bag, desk, and just about everywhere. Or some peanut butter, very high in calories but still good for…

I love caprese salad and bruschetta both. Try to stick to a healthy portion, and you'll be fine. As for a drink, I don't view soda as a healthy alternative so I would recommend for a happy hour having a vodka soda --with a splash of cranberry if you like a little sweetness. It's somewhere around 100 calories, I believe.…

Hehe I posted a short rant on this a month or two ago. The discussion sparked a multi-page fight (I was not much of a participant, but others were very passionate) so I caution you...but I agree entirely.

Welcome! I'm 23, I've been on MFP for a few months and have lost almost 15 pounds. I want to lose about 20 more :-) I'll be a bridesmaid in November! Feel free to add me as a friend, we can do this!

I posted this earlier today and just wanted to share it here! It's a great article called "Why Cardio Alone Doesn't Cut Fat": http://articles.elitefts.com/training-articles/why-cardio-alone-doesnt-cut-fat/ I weigh 160 and usually can burn 300 calories in a half hour on the elliptical. If I have the time (like last night…

Fruit basically ferments in your stomach if it's not digested right away. Try eating fruit by itself, at least 30 minutes before eating anything else. And if you aren't eating fruit first thing in the morning, wait 3 hours after eating other food before eating fruit. This way, your body can digest the fruit and it won't…

Yes! I was looking at my workouts this week and was very pleased. I burned a little over 500 Monday and again on Tuesday. And on Wednesday I burned over 900! I am definitely in for this, I want to keep pushing myself! I like the 6 workouts/week=583 calories/workout. Maybe some days I'll do 400 and other days I'll do 700!…

When I lived in Mexico, my family would make me "Mexican sandwiches" since they think Americans can't live without sandwiches hehe. Bread with avocado on both slices, tomato slices, and a slice of cheese. Nothing fancy, but so delicious :)

If you log less than 1200, it will give you that message. In my experience, anyway. I try to eat all of those 1200 on nonworkout days and then on workout days I am ok with not eating every single calorie, but pretty close :-)

What was the verdict?

3 1/2-4 hours is the sweet spot. I have had insomnia from prescription pain killers over the years (migraines) and all of my PC doctors, neurologists, etc. have told me the same thing about sleep: if you are going to get less than 3 hours, you should just stay awake. Thoughts on napping varied, but for a night's sleep, we…

I make my sweet potato fries like this: Cut sweet potato lengthwise into "fry" size bits, some big for awesome taste and some smaller for crunchiness. For one potato's worth, I drizzele half a Tbsp. of olive oil and then coat them in the pan by hand. I sprinkle some cayenne pepper on top, roll them around by hand again,…

I eat my exercise calories, including carbs, fat, etc. I've been losing about 1 pound each week. Don't deprive your body of the nutrition it needs-you're already at a deficit by being set at 1200 calories, so if you burn more calories, you're just maintaining the deficit :-)

Pasting this from a post I made before: Here we go: "The Dangers of Having Too Much Protein" http://www.nwhealth.edu/healthyU/eatWell/protein_1.html Highlights: *If you are eating too much protein and not enough carbohydrates, it is likely you are not eating enough fiber. Low intake of fiber can cause constipation, and may…

I've been weighing-in weekly and checking on my weight almost daily just to get a feel for how my body fluctuates. After gaining a pound this week, I've officially had my first setback from when I started being serious on MFP. I think that I'll wait until the end of the month to weigh in again, since it felt so crappy this…

My boyfriend and I also broke the standard bands that come with the game. I have heavy duty resistance bands from doing yoga and we use those. I attached the black straps from the original EA Active resistance bands onto the better bands. Or you could do without the handles at all-which I've done before. If you bought new…

My boyfriend has a pair, he's a traceur, practicing parkour for over 2 years. He uses them when training, which involves walking on rails, climbing, running in grass/on rocks/off of platforms, and all sorts of stuff. I also have a pair and use them for camping, like walking in the river, climbing in trees, etc. They're…

We (2) spend about $100/week, sometimes $70 and sometimes $150, depending on what we get. When we go grocery shopping, we also get cat food/litter, household stuff, beer/wine, in addition to the food. We're pescatarian, you could say, meaning that we are mainly vegetarian but eat fish 1-2 times per week. If I buy fake meat…

Whoo! Congratulations on your amazing progress! I bet you feel absolutely amazing. I started around where you started and have a similar goal (not quite as low though, I'm a curvy girl hehe). That's inspiring, I just need to keep at it! Thanks for posting!

Haha, gracias. I played softball year round in high school and then in the spring for college. And I was a pitcher. So my arms are pretty strong, but they don't have definition anymore so they look kinda fat. :-( The first day with the 8 pounders kicked my butt! I still struggle during the side lunges with the (lat…
