I am 163 pounds, 5'4" and my HRM logs the 30 day shred (27 minutes from start to end of cool down) as burning usually around 240 calories. I use 8 pound weights and do full push ups.

And a followup: http://www.nwhealth.edu/healthyU/eatWell/protein_2.html "How Much Protein You Really Need" Based on these calculations, this is what it has for me: 163 lbs. / 2.2=74.1kg 74.1 * .8=59.28 grams of protein per day So it's recommended that for me, at 163 pounds, to eat about 60 grams of protein per day.

Here we go: "The Dangers of Having Too Much Protein" http://www.nwhealth.edu/healthyU/eatWell/protein_1.html Highlights: *If you are eating too much protein and not enough carbohydrates, it is likely you are not eating enough fiber. Low intake of fiber can cause constipation, and may contribute to the development of…

I eat all of my exercise calories! I am losing about 1 pound per week and know that I'm doing it the healthy way. My body is not deprived of basic nutrition, I'm burning calories, and I'm toning my muscles. In high school and college, I often had the yo-yo diets going on because of unhealthy relationships with food,…

I'm a bit concerned about a goal of 20% carbs. Carbohydrates are your power source! They provide the body with the fuel it needs for physical activity and for proper organ function. It is recommended that the lowest percent of calories from carbs be 45%.

I think my profile is set up as sedentary since I have a desk job. Perhaps I should bump it up to light active?

Alright...verdict. These don't add sugar so they're not a sweet muffin. My solution this evening: insert one square (1/12th bar) of dark chocolate into middle of hot muffin and let it melt. BAM-dark chocolate banana applesauce muffin :-) 106 calories total on my count, you can look at my food diary to see the scoop if…

Welcome! I went to school in Baltimore, down in DC now. The site is great, glad you found us!

I have full mouth bite adjuster things for my TMJ disorder and have found the same thing! It's such a pain in the butt to take it out at work to go brush it and my teeth after eating anything at all so I have cut back haha. I am supposed to wear mine even when eating so that my jaw adjusts to the proper placement while…

My HRM has a strap and gives a different count than exercise machines. Depending on the workout (hills vs. high resistance and such) it will be higher or lower than the machines. Also depending on how hard I'm actually working.... I recommend a HRM with the strap for accuracy. It's been working for me!

Hmm. I use a HRM and eat my exercise calories. I've been losing 1-1.5 pounds every week since I started being honest and getting workouts in every day. I slightly overestimate what I'm eating just to be safe though. But it's been working for me, whether or not the HRM is entirely accurate. It can't be off by too much…

Congrats! College was rough on my body, gained a lot of weight senior year when I had an internship, teaching assistantship, and 18 credits every semester (double major) wasn't helping my stress level! I lived on pizza, energy drinks, and anything I could find for that last semester....get yourself set up with a routine…

Ooh, will check this out later :-) Thanks

Yes ma'am! :-)

The only one I know of is Better'n Peanut Butter. I got the chocolate variety at Whole Foods the other week and have used it on toast and with protein pancakes. It's not as good as chocolatey peanut butter of course....but half the calories so I make do :-) No idea how the actual peanut butter kind is though. I couldn't…

Amen to that! I remember a discussion with my father a few years ago when he was talking about things he wished were different in his life. He said that he wanted to change some things...and then realized that since he did nothing to change those things, he must not have truly wanted the change. Long, philosophical story…

TOM and I have a deal. Four times a year and only 3 days at a time....but those 3 days involve vomit, hyperventilating and going into shock, fainting, and generally wanting to die. Hence, 4 times a year! :-) And not every 3-day hell is THAT bad...sometimes it's just the vomiting. Either way, I can't make it to work and…

Yes ma'am. I skipped on Saturday though because I helped friends move from 10am-4pm...ok a few hours involved hanging and waiting, but it was still a workout overall. But even in the beginning when it hurt, I pushed through. I went from dumbells to a resistance band when my arms hurt, and the next day I was able to come…

Say, do you sleep on your stomach? (answers yes or no, doesn't matter) Can I?

Thanks for the links! I'm a big fan of recipezaar.com and search for healthy ideas on there all the time. It's a great site!

You won't gain muscle while losing weight. If anything, you'll tone the muscle you already have. Gaining muscle involves eating tons and tons of calories and protein and using lots of weights/reps to build muscle. So no worries on that bit :-) I am on day 6 (or is it 7?? I know I skipped one day to help friends…

I miss Mexico! But I've started making quesadillas with lots of beans to cut down on the cheese inside :-) Things I miss that are unhealthy for me (and that I haven't found a suitable healthy recipe for): *Onion rings...ha, good luck, right? *Shepherd's pie (vegetarian...I have a good healthy recipe but it's awful as…

I finished D6L1 today, whoo! To add my 2 cents on the calories burned...I use 8 pound weights and have a Polar 4 HRM. I turn it on just before the warm-up and turn it off after the cool down. It's about 27 minutes, and I average 265 calories. Some days it's almost 300 when I push super hard (today was 270) but on day 2…

Are any online? You know...for free? :-)

Sorry to break it to you, but 19 pounds in a little over a month is more than ambitious...it's going to be impossible for someone at your weight. Aim for losing about a pound a week. Anything more than that and you'll probably be doing more harm than good. With that said, welcome to MFP and good luck to you! There are lots…

Hehe me too. Stalk away, that's half of why I have mine private...so that others know if I'm being good or not. Helps keep me accountable I think.

I hope so...I already enlisted as one hehe. Definitely going to try to find a dress with a corset back so that I don't have to get refitted after dropping some of this poundage :-)

I'm not getting married but my roommate from college is in October and I'm a bridesmaid! I have to try on dresses in April I think...and from today I need to drop about 25-30 before the wedding. If you need a partner, I'm here for ya! And congrats!

CW: 164 GW: 145 Mini goal for 3/10: 161 I have had a mini goal of 160 by St. Patty's for awhile, looks like I might be making it happen! Whoo! My "secret" lately has been doing a 250-300 calorie workout in the morning and munching on fresh veggies and fruits between 300-400 calorie meals. Some days it's hard to even eat…

That's what MFP is for! :-) I'm doing the shred too and I have looked at the 30 day shred forums and talked with others who are doing it. There are all kinds of fitness and nutrition tips throughout these glorious pages as well! And most of the well-informed users are quick to respond with advice if you ask!
