I ride an old Saracen, handbuilt in the UK and it's a mountain bike with road tyres. It seems to handle my weight fine. One thing i will say though is, don't get one of those padded seats if you're planning on doing many miles in one go. They actually hinder progress.

Hey! Yeah, i've a lot to shift as well, probably around 10 stone.

Also going to stick with MFP recommendations for a few weeks and then try the 1200 calorie option. I did the Cambridge diet before and was on 500 calories a day and although i starved quite a bit i did end up losing 3 stone.aaaaaaand put it back on again.
