My kneejerk reaction was to say, "wow, she sucks!" but then I had to remember - what was my first time like doing SDLHP? Or box jumps? Maybe she's never done much O-lifting before. I'm sure she's got the strength, but as we all know, perfecting movements makes a huge difference with what you can lift. Perhaps with some…

Have you tried doing a completely whole-food diet? Cut out all processed foods and sugars. (90% of the time- we all need a little indulgence periodically!) Eat tons of veggies and meats, and healthy fats/oils. ANd of course LOTS of water.

For angry stuff, I like Disturbed, Rage Against the Machine, Godsmack, Linkin Park, and Slipknot... esp the song "Duality" recently... I'm the same way with needing angry music!!!

Almonds or other types of nuts are a favorite snack of mine, although they're not low fat. They are a healthy source of fat and will keep you filled up, though. Choose unsalted or very lightly salted to keep to low sodium!

I agree, I think there are some people out there that just bash everyone else's workouts, and act all high and mighty because we lift heavy things. But I'm sure most of you would agree that it's hard not to talk about something that gives such great results, and has such an amazing community! I think some people just take…

I actually completely disagree. Keep doing what you're doing! You are probably building muscle, which is awesome. You'll probably drop inches before pounds, and having more muscle on you helps you burn more calories while at rest. Drink LOTS of water - and I mean lots, and up your veggie intake. See what happens. :) Good…

This is one of my FAVORITE articles explaining the importance of strength training. In a world where cardio is king, especially with women, I found this my go-to article to explain to people why I CrossFit. (I also had to show this to my husband... he is a great marathon runner but I am trying to convince him that CF will…

I usually include it - I go to a CrossFit class and the warmup really gets you going. I don't wear a HRM, but I kind of keep a general track of how many minutes it takes and add it under circuit training. Probably not the most accurate way, but I feel like I lowball things anyway.

Not sure if I have a "favorite" WOD yet! But here's what we did on Saturday, it was pretty tough: "Grindy" (135/95... I did 85) 10 clean & jerks 5 rounds of Cindy (Cindy = 5 pullups, 10 pushups, 15 squats) 10 clean & jerks 5 rounds of Cindy 10 clean & jerks

I often wear knee socks when there are DL's or any type of lifting from the ground involved. I've definitely noticed the bruising on my shins has gone down since wearing them. It's no fun being a woman with bruised legs!! The socks are worth it. Not 100% bruise-proof, but they help.

I started CF in May and am just now getting up to some "higher" numbers. I haven't logged too many PR's but here's what I've done recently: DL 185 (5x) FS 115 Power Clean 100 C&J 95 (not great for Grace at rx!) Snatch 70 Snatch balance 75 Press 70 (5x... I was so sore that day!) Excited about this new group and hopeful for…

I did NASM - also very widely accepted and one of the best ones out there. It's self study, then you have to go to a facility to take a test. They have a lot of continuting education options as well.

I've alawys stuck to the principle that if it's just a slight head cold, it's fine to work out. But if it's below your neck (ie, the cold has moved to your chest, or you have flu-like symptoms), rest up. It's always important to listen to your body, though - sometimes sweating it out is helpful and can get rid of it, but…

shoooot, I'm sorry, it looks like he's charging for his e-book now. didn't mean to promote something that wasn't free! yikes.

Personally, I think that smoothies are better... you said "juicing is better because all you are drinking is literally the juice so you are getting all of that nutrition"... to the contrary, I've read that when you juice something, all the good bits are taken out! Anyway, I digress... I make smoothies all the frickin time…

Calories in, calories out. But why??? You'll feel sluggish, bloated, and probably pretty gross afterwards. Not worth it.

I agree that a calorie deficit will help you drop weight. However, sugar pretty much turns right into fat in your body. So while you'll be losing weight, your body fat % may not go down. Probably not the case here with excess fruit, just saying. You can eat 1200 calories worth of Twinkies all day and lose "weight," but…

Seeing fruit is a natural sugar, I think it's generally fine. However, I feel like some people eat way too much of it, which can certainly hinder your progress. It IS still sugar, even though it's natural. As long as you are active and your body can burn it off, it's fine. But just remember (as a former weight watchers…

I would think that it's accounted for. Even regular "office" workers will get up and walk to the copier, to the water fountain, etc. routinely. I think MFP takes that into account with a "sedentary" job - people still have to get up from time to time! I wouldn't worry about it :)
-
Agree with all of the above. Go to a running store - the people there usually know what they're doing and will help you find something that works for you. PERSONALLY I have never much liked Nikes for running. Love their cross-trainers, but I've found there are better options out there for running.

My crossfit box does "no-sugar challenges" all the time. It helps a TON. Try it for 30 days... cut out all sugars, sugar alcohols, etc. Check your labels (it's in most bread, packaged snacks, dressings, juices, etc.) We also limited fructose from fruit to 25g per day. It's worth a shot - when I did it I saw a huge…

I cut out dairy for a period when I was doing a paleo diet (caveman diet). It's not that bad, and there are lots of great alternatives! (coconut milk is my favorite... not dairy at all!!) Here is a site that may help you: http://www.godairyfree.org/Food-to-Eat/Food-Label-Info/Dairy-Ingredient-List.html

To lose inches, I would suggest more weight training. Although you may not lose more weight, you will certainly tone up and lose inches. Good luck!

I usually create a meal plan for the week, and then make a shopping trip for healthy foods. Having a plan set keeps me focused.

ice cream. I try to limit my dairy consumption but I can never say no to ice cream.

I've done the Chicago Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon the past 2 years and it's a pretty good time. Last year the headliner concert was Brett Michaels... and Chicago is fun in the summer! (it can be a hot race though.)

My chiropractor has told me that until your back issues start healing up, do not do anything where you're lying on the ground because that will just wreak havoc on your back even more! Try things like bird-dogs, supermans, etc. Those things work your core more than just your "abs," but it'll help with the back too. I know…

Running shoes are made for a forward motion only. Don't use them if you're going to be doing workout videos, etc. If you want to jog/run, that's fantastic! Do invest in a good pair of Asics, Brooks, or New Balance, and wear them ONLY for running. Other than that, get yourself a good pair of cross-trainers. I wear Nike…
