But wouldn't you agree that the macros set on here are far too high in carbs, and too low in protein overall? If someone at their recommended amount of carbs - and it was all sugar - that wouldn't be too healthy? Yes, I agree with you 100% that having a calorie deficit is important. (calories in, calories out...) BUT to be…

Tracking your sugar is VERY important. (sugar = fat = diabetes and more.) Although in today's world of over-processed foods and everything being "low-fat," almost everything has added sugar. (hint: when they take out fat, they add in sugar to make it taste good...which just turns to fat anyway. choose "regular" over…

To be honest you probably aren't "gaining" muscle unless you're lifting really heavy and eating over maintenance calories. That being said, you do tend to retain water when your muscles are hard at work repairing after a workout. Also, many people tend to overestimate the amount of calories they burn, and then eat too much…

I had 3 strips of nitrate-free bacon and 3 scrambled eggs with a big handful of sauteed spinach.

Yeah unfortunately there is no such thing as "spot training." Focus on eating clean, and doing full-body exercises to burn the most calories. Doing targeted exercises can help you build muscle, but until the fat comes off, you won't ever see it. So focus on fat burning first!

I LOVE using coconut milk (the full-fat, canned kind) for smoothies. It gives it a nice creamy base, plus it's super filling. My staple is coconut milk, frozen strawberries, a banana, and some cinnamon. Add some coconut flakes or almond butter for extra texture. So yum and filling!

I am relatively low carb and yes, it's really tough at first. Consider upping your (healthy) fat intake for the added energy. (fat does not make you fat, I promise!) I have been eating fairly high amounts of protein + fat and haven't noticed any lack in energy or stamina. Good luck!

Yes, the protein goals on this site are EXTREMELY low. I'd worry more about going over on sugars or carbs. Protein is good for you!! A common goal is to aim for .75g of protein per pound of body weight. Good luck!

I just make sure to have a big serving of veggies at both lunch and dinner, and sometimes breakfast! If I intentionally plan to have them at each meal, it's a no brainer for me that I'm going to be taking them out. I don' tknow if that's a good "reminder" or not, but just making that decision helped me immensely!

I'm just over 5'9" - heaviest was about 175 in college, currently 154. Hoping to lower my body fat % to about 17-18%, and if that brings my weight down, awesome. Maybe 145-150? But I'm also doing a lot of heavy strength training, so I'm hoping to build muscle mass too.

I'm not a fan of the CrossFit "preachers" OR the "bashers." THEY are the ones being extreme, here. (and, I think a lot of people "bash" it without even trying it!) Any exercise can be taken to the extreme. Running - ultramarathons. Weightlifting - powerlifting. You get the drift. I'm not here to argue one way or the other,…

Same for me pretty much. Just over 5'9", CW is 155. Want to be 150 but not really terribly worried about it - also lifting heavy and right now I figure I can lift more than ever before and am wearing smaller clothes. I'd rather focus on lowering my body fat % a couple points.

Haha yes it is, and thanks!

I get Carrie Underwood a LOT. And Reese Witherspoon sometimes!

Hmm... I've met: Ryne Sandberg (Chicago Cubs) Devin Hester (Chicago Bears - met him his rookie year before he became super famous... glad I got that photo!) Oh, and I was in the same high school class as American Idol winner Lee Dewyze. Woo. hoo.

YES! I follow Bob on Facebook and Instagram and he's loving the CrossFit :) I'm so excited to watch and see what he does tonight!

me too!!!

Yeah, I got a HUGE tub of Muscle Milk at Costco - yes it was $30, but I'm not even halfway through it and I've had it for months! (using 1-2x a day!) Buying in bulk can be worth it :)

Some people want more protein than MFP suggests, and it can be quite difficult to get enough with food alone. Shakes are a great alternative. Also, they're convenient when you've just finished a workout and want to refuel quickly or in the car on the way home.

I would do as many as you can on your knees in good form. When you reach your failure point, move to the wall. My reasoning: If you do them all on the wall, you will progress much slower than if you were to challenge yourself by doing a few each time on your knees. It would also be beneficial if you kept a record of how…

I used to go to a local martial arts (kickboxing & krav maga) school. I met a really sweet, amazing guy there out of the blue... he was very shy and it took us a while to go from friends to dating... and we just got married in September :) :)

My husband is trying to significantly lower his full marathon time (3:10 to under 3 hours) and I can only offer you what our coach told him: Use the incline setting on the treadmill. Do intervals of hills & flat running, maintaining the same pace, a couple times a week. Work that in with regular crossfit workouts (which I…

I usually make some kind of a shake - protein shake with almond milk, or frozen fruit with coconut milk. So yummy and easy! (Works amazing if you have a magic bullet - you can just take it with you.) Other days I make eggs - but if you want something on the go try boiling them ahead of time so you can just grab a few on…

You won't be putting on any muscle weight if you aren't eating enough, so don't even worry about that!! IT seems you are doing mostly cardio, so just don't be afraid to eat back your exercise calories. The weight WILL come off - but you have to eat. :) Good luck! (oh, and drink lots of water!)

It's Camille Leblanc-Bazinet -- she's an elite Crossfit athlete. Hot!!

Thanks Becky! I was just thinking about that site this morning, I will have to take a look around!

Thanks so much! That soup sounds really good. You know, I've been doing a lot of the whey protein shakes just for the convenience of easy protein, but I guess it's not technically paleo, huh? I should probably quit that... :/

Well, I originally just decided I was going to do my own challenge Jan 1-30. Then my crossfit gym started one that goes Jan 15-Feb 13... but my birthday is Jan. 31, so I'm sticking to Jan. 1-30 :) :) I actually do subscribe to Mark's emails and blog. Sometimes I forget all the great resources that are there - I just…

I know you already said you don't have the patience for the strips, but if you can muster it up, I SWEAR by the Crest Professional Effects strips. I get compliments all the time on my white teeth- I do them about twice a year! They are pricey but there are always $10 off coupons out there (and a lot cheaper than the…

Agreed, check out the paleo group! I try to eat paleo asmuch as I can - no wheat, dairy, sugar, or legumes. There are some really great websites such as marksdailyapple.com, everydaypaleo.com, primal-palate.com, and health-bent.com. They all offer up some awesome recipes. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but…
