  • My thought is that is a really good range for a fasting glucose reading. What are your numbers after meals? You may also want to check your BG in the middle of the night to make sure you aren't going too low and the morning BG isn't a rebound reaction.
  • Not all ingested fat can be digested. I believe only about 10% of fat is digestible. Much of it is passed through the bowel faster than it can be absorbed and converted into energy or fat stores. Drink a glass of olive oil and see how fast it passes... maybe not. &:)
  • If you get a super strong snack attack tonight, bacon works.
  • I shoot for a 75-80% fat macro. My blood glucose levels are more stable throughout the day if my fat is over 70%.
  • On road trips I like to stop and eat at Cracker Barrel. They have a really nice low carb menu.
  • Keto and lots of water is really good for your skin. Another cause of "keto flu" is the dying off of gut yeast as you starve it of sugar. That's a good thing.
  • I do tell people. But, they don't want to hear it. They don't believe they could ever give up bread, potatoes, cereal, cookies, cake, whatever. They'll say stuff like, "I could never have the willpower to give that up." Then they tell me what amazing willpower I have. I try to tell them that they only need a lot of…
  • Here are some quick answers: Q: *I'm a bit shaky today even though I just had 3 eggs with cheese. Is this normal? Is it just my body adjusting to going without carbs/sugar? A: Shaky is normal the first couple of days. Your body is experiencing carb withdrawal. It's a lot like a drug withdrawal. Your blood sugar is probably…
  • For at least the first week don't let yourself get hungry. Don't count calories. Don't worry about fat. Just eat and eat. If you have to stuff yourself until the thought of putting a bite of yogurt or chips in your mouth is repulsive then do it. Up your water and sodium intake. Load your refrigerator up with cooked chicken…
  • Don't give up. It will come off.
  • a low carb, moderate protein, high fat diet works for me.
  • I keep having to raise my office desk chair higher and higher as the desk gets higher and higher. Oh... that's my "seat" padding getting thinner and thinner causing me to sit lower. And, it's getting harder to see over the steering wheel.
  • Cooking: Start simple. Build on what you already know. A lot of good food can be served uncooked -- salads, fruit. If you can fry a hamburger and operate a crock pot, you can cook just about any meat. Start with keeping spices and seasoning at a minimum. Work your way up as you get to know the spices you like. Don't worry…
  • My last A1c was 5.1. I have controlled and gotten it down to that over the past year without medication. At the appointment when I tested at 5.1 my doctor was thrilled. But, he put me on metformin, 500 mg twice a day. Why? To treat PCOS. I have a lot of symptoms of PCOS other than just the diabetes for which metformin can…
  • I weigh myself almost daily. I watch the downward trend for weight loss. The daily ups and downs is how I monitor how much water-weight I'm carrying. If it jumps up 4-5 pounds overnight then I take a closer look at my sodium intake.
  • You just have to do it, or, give up coffee altogether.
  • I took a look at your diary. I think you are doing really well. No, you're not hitting your macros exactly but I believe you're certainly hitting a good range.
  • All good stuff. You might be (emphasis on "might") more sensitive to carbs than you realize. I would suggest that you try to reduce carbs to under 50 grams for 2 weeks and see if that jump starts your weight loss. I know that 1 banana a week would stop me from losing weight.
  • Your profile states that you have PCOS. Are you doing anything to specifically address that? How many grams of carbs are you eating? Have you had your thyroid tested?
  • Portage County.
  • At 5'8" you aren't losing weight because you need to gain weight. Increase your calories and start building muscle. You will gain muscle weight but will probably find that you are not gaining clothing size. Your body will look trimmer. If the thought of that scares you then you need to seek counseling for an eating…
  • Low fat and fat free dairy will raise blood glucose. The fat in dairy helps to level blood glucose. I would eliminate dairy completely until you know if dairy aggravates your autoimmune disease (lupus).
  • You're not eating enough food. You can lose the weight healthily without gastric bypass and without starving all the time. First, check out http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12 . You will learn how by eating more you can lose more weight. Next, because you are dealing…
  • I understand the overwhelming feeling of needing to lose a lot of weight. Stop looking at the amount of weight you want to lose. Just set a goal of weighing less in a week than you do today. You've already met that goal once. &:) Don't give yourself a time limit. You might reach that 100 pounds lost in a year. But, if you…
  • I spent too many years blaming myself and lack of will power for being fat. When what I was really fighting was PCOS/insulin resistance. I was never a binge eater or an emotional eater. I was a tiny child. In grade school I was always the smallest in the room. I was raised with good eating habits. When puberty hit at age…
  • How do you know you're out of keto? Are you testing at least trace on the sticks? Do you test in the morning or at night? Not testing positive on the keto strips does not necessarily mean you are out of keto. The strips just register the amount of excess ketones your body is eliminating. You may have become more efficient…
  • I've done South Beach. There's no reason to count calories. Add good fats to your diet to up the calories: olive oil, peanut butter, avocado, etc.
  • I started at 325 in May 2012. I am 53 years old. I have been on a keto diet ever since. It works. Not only have I lost a lot of weight, more importantly, my diabetes is under control. You are more than welcome to peruse my diary.
  • I had to get a probiotic. After 9 months of being very low carb apparently I starved out all the good flora in my gut. I bought Allergen Free-Jarro-Dophilus VegiCaps because it is the only one I found that didn't use soy for the capsules and is dairy free. It's a decent price too.
