  • I suppose it would be sacrilegious to ask to lead the Thanksgiving prayer and then pray something like this: Thank you Lord for the blessing of family. Thank you Lord for the wonderful variety of food we have for this meal. Bless everyone with a wonderful day. And, please, Lord, help me not to be offended when my family…
  • "I don't make rude comments and noises about what you choose to eat. Stop making rude comments and noises about what I choose to eat. This joke is so last year and the year before that and the year before that. Have you no imagination?"
  • You are 5'2" and weigh 117 pounds. You probably do not have enough body fat to compensate for a very low carb diet while working out. You need more calories than 1200 a day to support your activity. To lose the additional 9 pounds you want to lose you should only be trying to lose 1/2 a pound a week at the most. Paleo is a…
  • You seem relatively young. You haven't had a period in years. Your extra weight is around the middle. You watch your calories and exercise. But, can't lose weight. These are all symptoms of PCOS/insulin resistance. Dump the doctor who is not concerned about you having no periods in years. Get a new doctor and a referral to…
  • At $10 a month that is cheap for pizza 4 times a month.
  • That's a big drop. Well done sir.
  • I've been getting higher BG readings, too, especially my fasting morning one. There's no dietary reason for it. So, I went looking online for the answer. Turns out adding cardio and weight training to my life is causing my body to dump stored glucose into my blood stream to repair and build muscle. That means... I am…
  • We recently joined PF. We have tons of fitness centers around us that are closer but none could beat the price of $10 a month even with the 20 minute drive. I did consider another gym because they offered Zumba, Pilates and spinning classes but when I looked at the times they offered those classes I realized I wouldn't be…
  • The protein amounts set by MFP are a MINIMUM goal not a maximum goal.
  • I peaked at your diary and see that you have your carb macro set at 20%. As you increase your calories that 20% will give you more carbs to eat. I suggest that you continue to log your food intake for at least 6 months. That will give you time to learn to recognize about how much you can eat and maintain. You can probably…
  • I want smaller wrists and ankles so that I can wear a normal size bracelet and ankle bracelets.
  • Keep the husband, dump the mirror.
  • Well done!!
  • I'm finding that if I watch my calorie count, keeping it in a deficit, along with low carb I lose weight. If I don't watch my calories and just keep my carbs low I maintain my weight. If I don't watch either, I gain. Low carb eating makes me feel physically better all over and keeps my BG levels down.
  • If your appetite is normal (I assume meaning under control) for the first time in years it is possible that you are in ketosis even at 50-75 carbs a day. Is that 50-75 total carbs or net carbs?
  • It is true. Here is why. Your body doesn't just get fluids from what you drink. It also gets fluids from food. If you regularly do not drink enough fluids or very little fluids you are primarily getting the fluid you need from food, then your body learns to give you a hunger signal in order to access fluid.
  • I would recommend that as you increase your calories to maintenance level you keep the percentage of carbs the same.
  • Stay with it. Weight fluctuates constantly. Your weight gain is most likely water retention. Make sure you are drinking those 8 cups of water a day plus whatever other fluids you want. Watch the amount of sodium in your diet. I just went through a period of 3-4 weeks of losing almost nothing and some times gaining. I took…
  • Rlandbeck, Great info. Thanks.
  • 9/15Challenge starting Weight : 279 12/15 Goal Weight: 255 Current weight: 268 Lost: 11 pounds.
  • Here's a visual you can use that should help even with what you parents may fix for dinner. Picture your dinner plate as a pie chart. Divide the "pie" in half. One half fill with vegetables. The other half divide in two: One half of that half fill with protein (meat, chicken, fish, etc.) The other half of that half is…
  • I am pretty much gluten free by default. I am so low carb that anything with gluten doesn't fit into my diet. I never thought I was gluten intolerant, but, the other day we were at a dinner where I could not choose my entree. It was baked chicken rolled in what was most likely bake n shake. I was bad and ate part of the…
  • I'm not going to address your diary or your previous food choices because plenty of others have already done so. As I read your comments throughout this thread I am getting the impression that your basic problem is that you do not know how to eat healthy. Don't feel bad about that statement. Many people don't. So, I am…
  • As long as you are on Amryl report to your doctor whenever you have a bg reading under 70.
  • Congratulations on your pregnancy. And, because you are pregnant you should stay far far away from Subway. The risk of listeria from processed lunch meats is too high. http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/listeria.html Subway even "recommends that pregnant women eat the following non-luncheon meat items…
  • Drinking a cup right now just because it tastes good and I'm cold.
  • Unfortunately, diabetes doesn't take a holiday.
  • Joint pain is definitely a possible (if rare) side effect of Byetta. Many report that they have joint pain taking Januvia although it is not listed as a side effect. I would go back to your doctor and have him prescribe a different medication treatment for your diabetes.
  • I don't believe that when it comes to BMR, TDEE and the amount of calories one needs to eat to maintain or lose weight is any different for those with PCOS, thyroid issues or even diabetes. I am diabetic2, have always had symptoms of PCOS and thyroid issues. It has taken me years and years to figure out why I could not…
