Give your doctor the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he is very pro low carb diet for controlling diabetes.

Let the results speak for themselves. If your doctor doesn't like the results of a low carb diet then it's time to get a new doctor.

Saying or believing that by losing weight you will/can reverse diabetes is the same as saying that being fat caused diabetes. The reality is it is the other way around, being overweight is a symptom of diabetes. Type 2 diabetics were on the path of diabetes long before it was diagnosed. In my opinion there is no such thing…

Metformin is a recommended treatment for metabolic syndrome/PCOS. I am a type 2 diabetic. I also have metabolic syndrome/PCOS. I have been successfully controlling the diabetes just with diet. Yesterday at the doctor's office my A1c was 5.1. That is a non-diabetic range. However, my doctor prescribed Metformin specifically…

Almond milk works great as a sub for milk in pumpkin pie.

I consume a lot of coconut oil and other fats daily. I also consume a lot of fiber. I drink tons of water and other fluids. I take magnesium every day. I have resorted to taking stool softeners regularly. It's still a problem. Every indication is that it is due to a lack of flora in my tummy.

I drink it because I don't eat dairy anymore due to hormone issues. Almond milk and almond/coconut milk (unsweetened) is low in calories, low in carbs, has a good amount of fat and a good source of calcium. And, it tastes good.

I am currently dealing with this problem. I have not had a problem with constipation until about a month ago. I've done a lot of reading regarding low carb, keto, paleo diets and constipation. Fiber is not the answer. Based on what I've read supplementing with more fiber can actually make it worse. The issue is the lack of…

I've been on a very low carb diet and in ketosis for 9 months. I am healthier than I have ever been. My diabetes is under control without medication. My total cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides all dropped and my HDL went up. My A1c went from over 8.0 down to 5.7. I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow and I'm expecting the A1c…

"You look great. Your husband better watch out." Like, what, my morals and my love for my husband are embedded in my fat? I know they actually mean to compliment me but...yikes.

I just got in a bottle of soy-free vitamins. I've eliminated soy but didn't realise it was in my daily vitamin. <sigh> I bought Vital Nutrient off of Amazon.

High blood sugars increase the risk of yeast infection. Yeast loves sugar. Sugar makes it grow and multiply. The better control you have of your diabetes the less likely you are to have yeast infections.

I've told lots of people that you either spend the money on good food now or on medical bills later.

Part of learning to eat healthy is learning portion control. Yes, we now spend more upfront for meat since we started purchasing our meat from a local butcher. To get a cheaper per pound price for ground beef we have to buy 10 lbs. In the past I would divide that up into maybe 4 packages making 4 meals for 2 people...…

Taking pictures along the way is helping me. I still have a lot of weight to lose. So, when I look in the mirror I still see how fat I am. Seeing pictures of where I was and where I am now lets me see that, yes, I am 80 pounds lighter.

Great NSV.

Good job. You're doing great. If you're using powdered or non-dairy creamer, throw it out and switch to heavy cream or halfnhalf. Use the real stuff. Not only does it taste better but it is better for you.

Cauliflower, green beans, brussel sprouts, asparagus, AVOCADO, salad greens, carrots, celery, spaghetti squash, acorn and butternut squash. I want to try turnips again soon. Frozen cauliflower thrown into a food processor makes a great "rice".

They often add pork to ground venison in order to give it some fat content.

You might try carrying coconut oil with you and just add it to your coffee. Or, there are lots of "fat bomb" recipes floating around MFP that you could make ahead of time and use a portion of that in place of the bullet proof coffee. Just make sure it's one that doesn't need refrigerated. This morning I had my homemade…

Every so often your body fights back and tries to hold on to every ounce of fat. Don't give up. Sooner or later the fat has to surrender. Also, 2 weeks without weight loss is not a stall. You can easily pick up and hold on to water weight for a couple of weeks, especially if it is that time of the month. One friend seems…

I make this whole egg mayo recipe using light olive oil in a food processor. I'm a little more generous with the spices. You have to drizzle the oil really slowly. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/whole-egg-mayonnaise/

28 lbs doesn't seem like a lot when you have a lot to lose does it. Well, next time you are in the grocery store pick up a 20 pound bag of potatoes and have someone throw a couple bags of apples on top of it. That's the amount of weight that your feet, ankles, knees, hips and back aren't carrying around any more. You will…

That's my story. I started eating very low carb (again) last May to get diabetic control. In September I eliminated dairy and soy for hormonal reasons. Eliminating soy forced me to make better choices in oils/fats. In December I upped my fat and lowered my protein to get better BG control. So, I ended up eating mostly…
