I did a healthy wage challenge a few years ago. I had six months to get to my goal weight. If I lost the bet, I'd forfeit the money I put up at the beginning. But I made my goal to lose 30 pounds in 6 months and won. I can't remember if I put up $250 or $500, but I do remember I got back $1000. That's a lot to put down to…

I'm doing IF. I lost 70 lbs a few years ago doing calorie counting and faithful food logging, then gained it all back over the years. So, calorie counting works for me but I wasn't successful at maintaining-I lost all discipline when I wasn't absorbed in weight loss mode. Now I'm trying IF with the hope that it will be as…

I have a few select brands that I absolutely love, they are preservative free and have limited ingredient lists and as far as I can tell are not different from me making meals myself and freezing them. And I find they are invaluable about once a week or so when I'm exhausted at the end of the day and not in the mood to…

Starting over can be so hard, but people like you remind us that if you put in the effort and never stop trying, you can end up not only back to where you were, but in a much better and more successful place than ever before. My sympathies for the pain and hardship you had to endure, my admiration for your determination…

I've lost 55 lbs so far, and won't consider myself out of the first half until Onederland. I feel great, am looking pretty good in some clothes, and the increase in stamina and strength is just so liberating. Like BruceHedtke says, I do still look like a smaller version of my fat self, as opposed to how I know I'll look in…

Congratulations! Tell me more about Insanity and how it was for you as you progressed and were able to do more. I'll be thinking good things for you as you venture out from being solitary to more social, and hope you find tons of acceptance and support and fun. May you feel great inside and out!

40g every day with 10g nuts fills me up well for 210 calories. Sometimes I'll have them with chocolate chips as a late night snack when I've got a sweet tooth.

Yeah, at 124 pounds (fully clothed, in the afternoon, evening) and 5'8", losing weight isn't going to make you prettier or healthier. If you don't feel pretty or healthy now, start looking for other solutions, because losing weight isn't going to do it. And you deserve to feel good about yourself.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry you're in this position. The way you described your hunger as "primal" resonated with me, that's how I feel a day or two of my period. Feeling like that every day and getting up the dedication to overcome it is hugely admirable. That's a tough mountain…

You're right, continuing with the concentration camp example was distasteful and insensitive. I should have said, let's assume those same calories for a healthy (at least initially), active man who did hard physical labor for 10 hours a day.
-
Yes, but they were doing 10 hours or more of hard, hard physical labor, correct? Wouldn't the better number be what they were netting?

Is there any evidence that the majority of people on 1200 calorie diets lose hair, feel weak, etc.? I would find that surprising, but am totally open to finding out I'm wrong. Better to be factually correct than to keep on wrongly thinking you are. I know a long time ago I heard about a study saying that the…

I can't get on board with someone deciding that her priorities and objectives and choices are the best ones for everyone, end of story. Some people prefer to lose faster; they'd rather have fewer daily calories and see faster results. Not everyone is miserable on fewer calories per day. And some people prefer to do less…

You can't tell me that (successful) local restaurants don't already know exactly how much money in ingredients is going into their food; it's not much of a stretch to require nutritional guidelines, too. Eating out can be a crapshoop, and can be frustrating. One unwise meal at a restaurant can exceed 3000 calories easily.…

I think once in my life I got on the scale during my period and it was lower than before the period. That was about a decade or so ago, though... Good for you!!! Talk about succeeding in spite of the odds being stacked against you, lol.

What a great OP, and you've made such great progress. You look gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your story.

1200 calories is not too low for everyone. It might be too low for some people, but it's a little arrogant to take what works for you and extrapolate it to the entire population. That said, I wouldn't like to be capped at 1200 every day. I eat there or under some days, sure, but to have that be the maximum number of…

I'm interested to hear so many people say not to buy foods that you binge on. When I binge, it's food that is fine in moderation but not in excess. A few years ago I binged on Triscuits. Good Lord, I pooped for DAYS. I've often binged on cheese and veggies, but what I ate in calories in cheese put me way, way over, and it…

I know that technically food safety says not to put frozen meat in the crockpot, but I take some chances with food safety guidelines when it means the food tastes better to me and the risk is really low. I have always cooked a turkey to 60-65 degrees, even when they used to say 80 (blech!), I let my kid lick the bowl of…

By the way, "poked out of" doesn't mean any skin was showing, it just means the outline of the rolls was visible under the fabric.

I just experienced this problem for the very first time last night! I've only lost 60 lbs., but I can fit into a size 14 with a little bit of sucking in of the tummy. The pants are comfortable on, they look GREAT on legs, hips, and butt. Such an ego boost! But then I started in on the shirts. Three shirts later, I realized…

One of the biggest, most dramatic fights I ever got into in my life was with my BFF when I was 13. I went to take a shower and when I came out, she had poured the whole box of Cap'n Crunch into a big bowl so she could pick out all the crunchberries. She was eating a bowl of every last one of the crunchberries! I lost my…

I'm doing good on all my macros, and I don't emphasize protein. I need some to keep me full, but my husband is actually needs to keep his protein low, so I don't go out of my way to look for high protein. As far as fiber, I get plenty, but once again, my husband doesn't get enough and it would be nice to share. At the end…

Yeah, I can't stave off hunger with less than 215 calories, and sometimes that's not enough. Lyndsay, that's a great and tasty routine, but I don't think it would work for me. I would categorize all of those meals except for dinner as snacks. I do keep my breakfast small, my lunch between 400-500 calories, and then I have…

I love their oolong sea bass, too. It's pricey, though.

My husband and I are pescatarians for health reasons. Don't forget to include egg dishes in your meal rotations: frittatas, omelettes, eggs in purgatory, etc. To keep calories and cholesterol lower, use a ratio of about 1 whole egg to 1/2 to 1 cup of liquid egg whites. Don't rule out sardines. Try the ones that are…

That's exactly what my always-fit friends do. They stay on top of the scale and when it starts edging up again, reduce intake until it starts going down. They have a range they work within, it's just like aqualeo says, the same 5 pounds over and over again.
-
It's physical hunger for me, not mental or emotional. Yes, I usually let myself eat more, just make sure it's not junk. Or try to, anyway, that's not always a battle I win. But a few days later, I lose all interest in food except for taste. I often get to dinner time and realize I haven't eaten at all that day, and if I…

I think you're confused. Of course you cook that way, or else you don't cook anything using a slow, moist heat method. Do you cook dry beans? Whether you use a crockpot or an oven or a stove eye, it's all the same. Ditto any cream of any vegetable soups. Chicken or beef or pork stock? Sure, you can use an oven or an eye,…

I am 95% Pescatarian, too (i.e., only eat vegetable, grain, and seafood proteins). I'll call these HINTS to be more palatable to the Syntax Police. In general, I shoot for a minimum of 5-10 grams of fat for every meal. Less than that and the meal isn't satisfying to me: doesn't taste as good or keep me full as long.…
