I understand the point you're making here, but it doesn't really work does it. If someone gives you a money birthday gift, do they also get the right to say how you will spend it? If your employer gives you a Christmas bonus just because it's that time of year, does he come round to your home and criticise what you bought…

Perhaps you could ask him to save the money and put it towards something you'd both enjoy (not food related!) - most people I know who have problems with their weight use food as a treat, a reward and a comfort, so it's a good idea to plan treats that don't involve food :) Maybe a trip to the cinema or something like that?
