A calorie is not a calorie. Added sugar is evil.

If this is about a holiday, you will not succeed. Unless it is a lifestyle change, you will not succeed. Many tried and failed.

Because hospital food is nothing but reheated leftovers from the airplane food.

In my personal experience, losing weight for any reason is always a great idea (of course assuming one is overweight or obese).

OP may be the most attractive woman on MFP, but if her husband finds her unattractive because of her weight, that's all that matters in this context. Nobody is talking about "changing oneself" - we're talking about losing weight. And yes, as outrageous as it may sound to some people, lean and fit body is more attractive.…

Yeah, but ice-cream and bacon are - and I eat generous quantities of both of those and keep losing weight. More power to Paleo!

I'm afraid that's the bottom line. Don't expect a miracle from a bulletin board. You need help. Go and find it. It IS possible.

I've been doing this quite successfully. After a fun day (or a fun weekend) I tighten up for 2-3 days - work out extra 20 minutes and cut out a scoop of ice cream - and it all works out.

I find this thread immensely motivating. And BrightCrystal is right - I had no idea that D &G was selling such a nice shirt. In fact, I may just run to a store on the way from my workout, and get one.

Check out this thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1229591-how-do-you-feel-about-a-once-a-week-cheat-day . The bottom line is, many people successfully budget (for weight loss and maintenance) on a weekly basis.

Why wear any bra with such a beautiful blouse?

Based on the article I mentioned above, I believe this is incorrect. Waste contains certain percentage of the nutrients we consume, which do not get processed by the metabolic processes, but which get excreted. Those calories (energy) get eliminated without becoming part of the energy input.

Here is a good overview - http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/79/5/899S.full - with references if you want more detail. Bottom line, the modern calorie rating is based on "metabolizable calories" rather than "gross calories," and it is by its very nature somewhat imprecise, but within such a narrow range that it does not…

Recalculate ahead of time, just to get a sense of how much it changes. In my case it was ~50 calories per 5 lbs lost. I try to update my goals every 10 lbs lost but I don't sweat it. I try to stay at a ~500 calorie deficit, so worst case, I'll only be at a ~400 deficit after losing 10 lbs.

I don't disagree but ... I created a private entry in my foods for "Fruit Serving" with an estimated average of nutrients, and I log 3-5 servings every day without worrying about raspberries vs blueberries. (I only log bananas separately.) The weight movements are the ultimate measure of quality of logging, and this works…

Agreed, many British style beers under or around 5% are very flavorful. Apart from that, Weisenstephaner Hefewiesse is an outstanding beer, and so is Hoegaarden. Not my favorite, but Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is very drinkable as well. Then again, there is nothing like a double IPA or a nice strong Belgian Ale.

And then, some people have no problem with hunger after eating breakfast. I can eat eggs and bacon, or oatmeal, or a pop-tart - and I'm fine for 4 hours.

Trust me, it's a lot easier to lose weight than it is to quit smoking. You're good. Keep going.

It all depends on which taste you prefer...

Bagels. More calories in a bagel than in a donut.

One possible strategy is to under-eat by 100 or 200 calories a day on the workout days and eat them on the rest days. As long as it averages out it works out well for a lot of people.

Never had that experience. I guess I eat too much rather than not enough...

1. Consider nicotine patches. They will help blunt the cravings. It's still hard, but patches help. Can't speak for e-cigs, but if they help, I'd rather look like a douche for 2 weeks than continue smoking. 2. Don't try to make other big changes in your lifestyle. Focus on the goal of quitting smoking. Otherwise it's easy…

Weekly average is all that matters. Some days are better, some days are worse. As long as it all balances out it's OK.
-
It can. But the best way to find out if you're losing weight is to use a scale.

Good one, thanks!

Leskent, you're absolutely right about that. You shouldn't be putting your health into the hands of ANY website, free or not! Common sense is the key, no matter what you do.
